How can I determine if it is the control box and not the pad?
Thanks for the suggestion. |
Try unplugging the pad from control box. If you're still getting the symptom of the button being stuck, then it's the control box. _________________

that's pretty cool of them to do that. |

Ok, quick update -
I received my new control box from BNS but it was the wrong one. Apparently the control boxes for the other ddrgame pads do not work with ths one, so they're sending me another CB. In the meantime, I made my own control box that works.
So after playing for a couple of hours this is where I'm at - This is a sturdy pad, other than the fact that the metal on the side dents up too easily. I think this pad should hold up for a fairly long time.
Sensitivity:
Not very sensitive. It should get much better with use judging by other's opinions of the pad. I do much better in the arcade than with this pad. I'm gonna work on getting it danced into for a few hours then I'll report back on the sensitivity. Judging by what others have said, it's not fair to judge the sensitivity until it's broken in.
Gameplay:
You can feel when you are on the arrows because there's a bit of "give" to the arrows. So far nothing strange with ghosting or anything like that. One concern is that the metal trim is very sharp and I don't dare to play barefoot. I already sliced my thumb on it. Socks should be OK, as this pad is shiny, but it's not at all slippery.
My conclusion:
Despite my control box issues, I'd give this pad a 7/10 for the price and looks. I'd give it an 8 if it were more sensitive out of the box. I'm glad that I got this instead of the Tx-4000, since people are having major sensor issues with those. BNS customer service has been good in working out the control box issue - both times they sent the new control box priority mail the same day I called them. _________________

good to hear.
for those who already have it you'll probably want to point out the design issues to folks working at BNS. i haven't gotten this pad yet because my konami softpad is still working. |

I just got my pad today, and have been playing it all day. Ive never had a metal pad before, so i wasn't sure if I should play with socks or shoes. Does playing in socks make it last longer? Anyway, I found the pad to be, sensitivity wise, pretty good. Still not as good as I usually do, but from other posts this should improve over time. The pad on the website does not match the one I received. Another poster stated this as well. I have the flames next to the arrows and only O and X. This design probably shows that the pad is a V2. I also have a question about all metal pads. How do i clean it, Pledge? wet paper towl? Also, one last question, I play on carpet, and i was wondering if this will affect my pad in any way? _________________

Also, one last question, I play on carpet, and i was wondering if this will affect my pad in any way? | I don't know if playing in socks makes it last longer. I've played in both and just go with socks because I play better in them. I have cleaned it with Windex and a cloth, and it gleams like [insert weird gleam metaphor here]. Also, I have noticed no difference after playing it on carpet and cement flooring. It only slides more on cement.
Recently, I have had to stomp on my up arrow to get it to work. I've taken it apart again to fix it. This time I went through the top because I didn't want to weld. I bent the metal on the frame to get the face of it off, which means now it's sticking up. Now, when I play again, there is a much bigger chance that I will cut my toe, but I'll try to hammer it down good.
I'm sure many of you were wondering what it looks like under here. Sorry, I couldn't hold the camera steady, but you can get a good idea of how big the connectors are and the wood that's involved. The circle in the center is pretty thick. I know they did this to keep the pad from constantly touching, but I almost think it's a little too thick. In case anyone is wondering, I have a version 2 so there are no triangle or square buttons.
This is the underside of the pad face. The foil is really non-conductive and dirty, so I think I'll go with the sheet metal mod before putting this back together.
Oh yeah, the problem with the up arrow was that there was some cat litter stuck between the connectors. Stupid cat. _________________

Thank you nintendawg for showing some pictures of the BNS metal pad. I was wondering how to take the top off to fix my right arrow as I didn't want to break the welds by going through the bottom. Sounds like I just need to bend the edging up and out of the way. Is there anything else I need to know about this pad to take it apart? |

Just know that you don't have to bend all the edging. Look at my first pic closely, and you'll see that I bent the edging on the whole bottom and about halfway up on each side. Then I used the same tool I was using to bend (actually, it was the doubles link piece of metal) and used leverage on the bottom to get it up. Then I simply pulled it out, it came smoother than I expected. Some things to know, though, is that I originally tried prying it off with just the bottom bent up, which caused me to warp the pad face. I don't think this will happen if you bend up the sides too, but I don't know since mine was already bent. You may want to wait until I get mine back in and see how the frame bends back before bending yours out of shape, but you probably have the same mindset as me: a slightly bent frame pad is better than a pad that doesn't work, and it's better than welding. I'll tell you guys how the sheet metal mod does, once I get it finished. _________________

sweet pictures. kinda funny how a thing like cat litter gets in the way of DDR pads. hehe.
regarding the flames, those are certainly the V2 pads. I have a version 1, and there are no flames, still works great though. |

I tried Nitendwg's way of going though the top but let me say, is damn hard to flip the metal up, I couldn't do it. So I just put tape over the metal so I can continue with it. The doubles bracket is good but it is still crazy hard... _________________

I was hoping someone would have chimed in to tell us if this worked on the 360 now that universe is out, alas, no such luck. I have it unopened in front of me, I was going to return it if our pads wont work, but I guess it is up to me....
*Edit* and the answer, drum roll please... is....
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
This irks me, and of course I opened it so I can't return it now. Oh well, soft pad I guess. _________________

small bump i need help with this pad.
I got this pad and everything was pretty good except that the right arrow won't work when it is stepped on or work on freeze arrows. I noticed that i have to basically put all my weight on it so it can just work OK, when i ment ok is that the sensor is not sensing it well and correctly. Is there any way i can fix it?
Edit1: my box is fine but then i try the PS2 controller part into the converter on my comp it won't sense it. does anyone know why? _________________

wow, the only thing that makes this pad better than a TX is the face BNS knows how to make a decent playing surface on the pad.
sheet metal mod it, and you basically have a cobalt flux. _________________
