When MAX 300 was anounced for the first time, played for the first time, or unlocked for the first time, what was it like? Were people angry because the thought it was impossible? Were people glad that they started making harder songs? How did it go down? _________________

When Max 300 was played, it was so hard that nobody in Japan could beat it.
Seriously though, I think when it was announced, first people wondered what it was going to sound like because if it was a 300 bpm song, how would it sound? I had a hilarious MP3 someone made of a fake Max 300 that was actually Let Them Move played backwards at 300 bpm. Then when people started getting a chance to play the song, I think eventually most players just saw it as another challenge, nothing impossible. |

I believe when it first came out, it was only playable as an extra stage, so it was on 1.5x Reverse and Dark. So it was completely impossible to pass for everybody. So everyone started playing cata's/9's on 1.5x Reverse and Dark. Somebody eventually passed it with like a D, there was a huge celebration about it, bla blah.
At least that is what happened in Waldorf, MD with the PC players.
What I think of the song:
Still hate it. _________________

At first I thought of it as being evil. Now I like it. Its a good challenge. I've only done it once though I came pretty close this one other time, I was maybe 15 seconds from the end. |

When I saw it I was like, "What the hell is this?" Then I played it.. and didn't think it was possible. 5 months later I passed it... _________________

Dark Mode was introduced in Max2 so it wasn't part of the original Extra Stage.
First time I played it, I had no idea what it sounded like or what the step chart was like. It was during my arcades Max release party (they always got new Mixes as soon as they came out). My friend and I were actually the first to play it in my arcade -- it was a funny site, there was a crowd of about 100 people from all around NY, Conn, NJ, Penn, RI, and even some from Mass. We failed about 15 seconds in (I lasted just slightly longer) but no one cared we failed because everyone just wanted to see the song. Looking back we probably looked crazy because it was in a mall arcade with a huge crowd in the back corner cheering as if your hometown just won the Super Bowl. I finally passed it on extra stage about a month later and did it on doubles a little while later (right before Max2 came out). _________________

Yeah. The year that DDR was first intro'd in the US, Japan was already AAAing everything so a lot of americans didn't believe the scores.
Max 300 now? It's an easy AA, and slow compared to the other 10's... _________________

Rewind to about 2 years back.
Technically, Max300 posed no threat to me because I never saw for a while. I started off with DDRMAX2, so I was handed MaxX Unlimited as my boss song. Little did I know this is STILL one of the hardest DDR songs to FC and score on.
At first, I honestly thought it was a joke. I was firmly convinced that no one had passed, no one will pass it, and that it was a gag song made by the Japanese government to make America look like they sucked at dancing games. After a few months, I passed the last 9 (So Deep) on that version and I started to practice on "the impossible" song. Needless to say, after several failed attempts a got it down and could consistantly pass it.
That being said, here's my major number 1 complaint. DDR is crap at bridging the gaps between 9's and 10's. The closest song I had to prpare myself for MaxX Unlimited's speed was Burning Heat (498 Arrows per minute) and Unlimited is mostly 600 arrows per minute with the back third being 640. There needs to be more Drop Outs and Paranoia Survivor speed songs.
Oh, and technically since this about Max300 and not Unlimited, I passed it second time. Of course, I never attempted it until I passed Unlimited. _________________

I started with EXTREME US and so LoM was my first ten, and the other tens came quite easily as I collected home versions (PSMO gave me some trouble, but nothing significant). _________________

ITG2 9's are great for bridging the gap. LoM used to give me a lot of trouble back in the day, so I discovered ITG2 and did songs like Tension and Mythology...those are good in-betweeners... _________________

I started playing DDR last year, and I was oblivious to a lot of the things in the game, such as the BPM and the 'pentagon chart' (I still don't know what that's called, but you probably know what I'm talking about). When I was playing with my friend at an arcade last January, he warned me that Max 300 was a very intense song, and I was like "yeah, whatever." Of course I failed, but a month later, when I really got into DDR, I did some research on DDR and the Max series, and some sources stated that Max 300 is so hard that some people died from playing it. I thought that part was exaggerated, because I mean come on, someone dying from a video game? Then I played Stepmania with official simfiles, and I played Max 300 at home. I passed it on Standard mode with a C a few weeks ago, and I'm a 5'11, 250-pound 16-year old, which convinced me that Max 300's difficulty is exaggerated, unless it only applies to Heavy mode.
