Well, I was at a Superbowl party when my friend whipped out her DDR mat. She had DDR Extreme 2 for PS2. I new I would be embarassed if I messed up, but I tried anyways. I tried Speedover Beetoven on light and passed! Knowing that I could do it a little bit, I picked myself up a pad and got addicted. _________________

The first time I saw DDR was when someone was trying to tackle Legend Road...I'm pretty sure they got to the freeze arrows in PSMO.
Then, last year, when my marching band went to Indianapolis for Bands of America, we hung out at the mall, and the two addicts in the band went to the arcade and played the whole time. They had a crowd of about half the band. I shrugged it off.
Then, at a party afterwards, one of those addicts brought a CF pad over...I tried it out, and got hooked. _________________

When did you first start playing DDR? (and how long have you been playing) ive started like, one month ago (only a week and a half seriously)
What got you to start playing? (initial interest) all my friends played it...
What made you keep playing? (why do you like playing currently) it's really fun and you can show off to little kids (please dont' make fun of me, I only play on standard) _________________

I first say ddr at the Luxor and my younger cousin played it ... she did ok, and it look interesting... i didnt think much of it until Anime Vegas 05 (i was a voluenteer there) and there was a ddr machine on free play there .. a friend of mine played in the tournament and she did very good and after the tournaments i watched her a few times getting very good grades on heavy and also playing a few times on double (1 using 2 pads - i think thats what its called) ... after that i got this thing called a "worlds pad" since i didnt have the money at that time to get a new ps2 games plus the pads ... (its basiclly a dance pad that connects to the tv and plays very basic songs)
i finally got the game and pads off ebay and i borrowed the game from a friend of mine until i got the one in the mail ... and now ive been playing every day ... only for about 5 months but activitly for about a week now ... im still on beginner modes but i try to go on light for a few songs ... my first AA was butterfly in beginner, lol ... _________________

Hey, this is me and my best friend Katie. I'm on the right. I starting doing DDR roughly about a little more than a year. maybe a year and a half-ish. I never had any intentions of becoming a great DDR player. I used to be very intimidated of the machine. Until my friend Katie got me to try it at this bowling alley place we have in town. She was like, do DDR with me? And I was like DDR? And she was like Dance Dance Revolution! And I was like.....um noooo, I don't know when to step? And she taught me how to do the game, and ever since then, you can't keep me away from it!
What made me keep playing? It's so much fun! It's a workout while having fun...I always work up a good sweat on the DDR machine. I'm also motivated by those who are better than me, because I want to get better. I look at the AAAs that people post and I want it. I only have 3 AAs under my belt on Heavy so far, but I don't doubt that there will be more to come :-)

I remember playing DDR for the first time back in November 2003, and that was with an old third mix DDR I loved it. (Even though I had failed many times before hand) Well when I first plaed DDR it was out of pure interest, and what kept me playing was for the challenging songs primarily, though I also enjoy the songs on there a lot. |

the first time i played DDR was in May 2004, when my friend got Max 1 and 2 soft pads for his b-day. I had always wanted to try DDR, but i was always a nintendo guy and no near by arcades had DDR at the time, heck any music games(well, theres one i never go to because its a little to far with PIU, and as of spring 2006 one got ddr extreme finally). So i played it and was instantely in love. First song was overblast, and i also failed. After an hour i was finally passing 1s and 2s, and then i knew i had to get a PS2 and DDR. At the time, all i had was gamecube and xbox. Then one day at best buy i found xbox dance pads(they didnt have the game though, i asked) so i looked on ebay for xbox DDR and found a bundle with 2 arcade box soft pads(worst pads ever, they worked properly for about 5 months, which i guess might be good for soft pads i spent $60+shipping with the game) and played non stop that summer. Then one day, my pads broke, around early 2005. I was devastated. Then i went to my friends house(same friend who got max 1 originally) and he got some new redoctane pads that i thought were amazing at the time. I was destined to find something simular and at the time i didnt know any better and ordered a $30 ignition-ripoff pad off ebay. Unfortunately, the pad didnt work on xbox at all(the input was messed up and the down arrow wouldnt work) so i was out of luck. Finally, in the summer i found a local LAN gaming center with DDR so i went there all summer for DDR. when i first started going there a played on light and some standard, then about near the end of summer i was able to almost every 7 footer and even a few 8s. And then i got a PS2 and my ignition-ripoff pad worked on it, and 1 new ignition pad later im still playing, only now i can pass almost anything besides a few max songs.
Thats a great DDR story. DDR has impacted my life more than any other game in the world, and it will always have a big, dance pad-shaped place in my heart.
That was terrible. |

I started playing about 3 years ago. I was introduced to the game at a friend's birthday party. She had MAX2, and everyone was having a blast playing it, especially me! Later that year I got the game and a mat for Christmas and became hooked. I quickly advanced from Beginner to Light, but was stuck on Light for almost a year. Finally I was able to pass (and do well) on almost everything on Standard. Around this time, I got EXTREME for Christmas and started playing the heck out of that. I took a long break from the game and then, when I realized the existence of the arcade at my local mall (with an EXTREME machine, something I had only played once before on vacation) I knew I had to pick it up again so I could play well at the arcade. I slowly moved up to Heavy when my friend gave me the hint to play with the 1.5x and Solo options on. Then I got EXTREME2, once again for Christmas. I practiced on Heavy a ton, and in the process, broke a Game Stop dance mat. I had to deal with an awful Mad Catz mat my friend gave me a while back for a month or so until I decided to invest in a RedOctane Igition 3.0 (just a few weeks ago). Now I'm getting tons of A's on Heavy, with the help of my new mat and homemade bar (well, it's just a chair, but it works).
I guess that was the entire story, and not just how I got started, but oh well. Now you know how Pocky game to be a DDR lover. :3 |

Four years ago my son went to a jr. high dance and came home excited about a playstation game that you danced to. He said that there was this one guy (who owned the game) who could pass songs, but that he (my son) passed them too and got a bunch of greats and perfects. I had no idea what he was talking about. But I figured since he said it had been a workout, I'd buy a game and the pads. Our first pads were cheap and gave out within the first month. We've gone through ten pads since then. (We've gone through one of our CF's and are currently trying to decide if there's a better pair out there now.)
We have family challanges (four of my kids continue to "dance" to this day. And I've gotten better. (They said I looked like a T.Rex when I first started, because of how I held my arms up next to my body.)
My (now 16 years old) son is still the best. He can pass any song. But I have the longest combo 1573 (Endless Standard). And a couple of AAA's in standard mode. Not too bad for an old lady. |

I discovered DDR in an arcade a couple of years ago. I was mildly intrigued, but I didn't really get into it for about another year. Then I got DDRMAX2 for PS2. I played it fairly often, but then school started again and I kind of lost interest. My playing picked up a little about 6 months ago when I got DDR Extreme. I played more often, and started getting into the Standard mode alot more. Now, with DDR Extreme 2 seemingly glued into my PS2, I'm really starting to get into it. I play all the time (when I'm not working) and am up to the 7 foot level. I know that I would have my a$$ handed to me in any tourney right now, but just give me time. I'll be mastering those 9 footers any day now. _________________

i started to play 3 month ago...
The first time i saw DDR was in Atlanta, after we were in some kind of a robotics competition (which we got 73th place out of 77 ..... lol )
So we went to the down town, becuase it was our last day in the US(before we came back to ISRAEL!), and there i spent most of the day in the game zone. There i ment one guy who was at the competition with us, and he was playing on the DDR (heavy!!) and he was sooooooo good
me and my friend wanted to try but he never failed so we didnt had a time to try.
Then we went back home, and NO ONE in Israel heared about the DDR...
So when i went to ARGENTINA with my family (long story why i went... never mind), i was at Abasto-shopping-mall over there, and i saw a really fat (lol ) woman playing on the DDR. i remebered it since USA and wented to try.
i socked !!!!!! i was the laimiestttttt lol
then i got angry and i told my mom that ill never play this game.
In the time we got back to Israel, my brother won in some competition on the newspaper and won a DDR pad for PC.
He gave it to my and told me to play because im a woman.
I started to play and i was pretty good
i kep playing till one day one of my bestest friend bought one to,
then we played together and she told me that i was too good to play with,
and she gave me some good songs so i will practice to be better...
and im still playing as she told me LOL !!!!!!!!
{sorry that i wrote this much :] }
What made you keep playing? (why do you like playing currently)
DDRing is so much funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
i cannot seeing me without the DDR
it maybe the funest thing everrrrrrrrrrr
+ its so fun to beat all of my friends _________________

I started 2 weeks ago. I've always known about DDR and I've always seen alot of people play it at the arcades, but I never got into it since it didn't seem so fun. Then, just this year, some new skater boy kid comes to school and teams up with me for some science project. We go over to his house; watch tv, eat, work and then we go to his X-Box. He owns Ultramix 1 and 3 (I think I played the first). I watched him play then I tried it myself. Moments later...I couldn't get off the freaking dance pad. It was so addictive. I then downloaded StepMania to have some fun and that also helped get me into it. Then, I just went to the store, saw Extreme2, bought it, and danced the night away.
How lucky was I to get paired up with such an awesome kid (well my age, 15)! |

Ummm...I started playing when I was 11...that was about 3 or 4 years ago...I used to watch all these asian dudes on DDR machines in my local arcade and then one day I just stuck my 2 bucks in the machine (after waiting about 15 minutes for them to get off!)
The music interested me...and the moving arrows...Mind you, the first time I was so un-co...
What made me keep playing? Hmmm..."feeling" able to dance...and of course now being able to show off to my "newbie" friends, to whom I introduced the game last week... ...and still wanting to become one of those "freaks" that can do 10 footers/Oni/fast songs....etc. As you can see though, I'm a Basic Member at the moment and I have years to go yet... |
