Hello!
I have timing problems on the DDR arcade because of the time lags on Stepmania (I tried the offset test on the ITG demo which gave me a value of 45ms). My aim is to get some AA's, but from Stepmania I learned to step too early E19.gif Is it much better to buy a (modded) Playstation2 and to play DDR (and ITG) than on console?

No. Just learn to do it the right way. Then buy yourself a nice new graphics card to make Stepmania better.

Legitimate question.

Irrelevant advice.

No, but you should get the arcade's offsets from the internet (use google) and put them in Stepmania. Using these settings, just keep playing, and you'll probably adjust in about a week or so. I don't get what a graphics card had to do with anything. And buying a graphics card for stepmania is almost the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Too bad I once overheard someone buying a graphics card for roller coaster tycoon. Yes, the original one. Bah.

Well, yeah, the timings in the console version are WAY WAY more lenient and you can't fine tune them as much. I'd stick with a (slightly tweaked) stepmania.

Another important advice:

The difference between DDR AC and SM PC is mainly because of Song synchronization, globaloffset and IO device. PSX-USB Converters create a visual delay while playing, which is the main reason why you step too early on the Arcade. Xbox Controllers with soldered USB Connector and the XBCD DDR driver eliminate that problem. The problem with Converters is probably a lag-producing debouncing method, but I'm not sure about that.
I suggest you to get a Xbox Controlbox if you have a Metalpad or a Xbox Softmat if you play using a softmat and do these modifications. You'll be impressed by the difference!

There's also a line in one of Stepmania's INI files (either Stepmania.ini or Metrics) called "GlobalOffsetSeconds", which you can change in order to create an input delay of the same amount of time. It's like the "Input" sound option in DDR home versions, except you can get a lot more precise.
