My favorites from the contest so far (out of the ones I've heard):
"Son Son Sunday (Orange Mix)"
"Konami Code (Epsilon Minus remix)" (haha)
The song that is "Trip Machine" meets "Twilight Zone" meets "DXY"
"Let It Go"
"Convergence (DDR Version)" (in the same set as "Let It Go")
"Cruize the Zone"
"Starspace 3 (Hyper 175)"
"Chocolate Syrup" (in the same set as "Starspace 3")
"Attack" (I still think it's undanceable and fuzzy, but I still like it)
"GoinG InsanE" (this is so strange)
"Venture (Oddysey Mix)" (in the same set as "GoinG InsanE", ~same comments as "Attack")
"The Experience"
"Binary Groove" (unfortunately, a bit low energy for DDR, but a good song)
"B" (in the same set as "Binary Groove")
"Intergalactic Doom Sentence" (teh awesome!)
"Toccata Rock (Clean)" (in the same set as "IDS", production is low, but the composition is likeable. Most likely won't win.)
"Hot & Sticky (nosamples)"
"Buwan Na Sa Dagat" if it were an instrumental or if the vocals weren't so bad (in the same set as "H&S")
"Euphorium" (take "Z" and destroy its resemblence to the "Max" songs, adding quality and pure beauty!!! Almost too beautiful for anything other than worship, including DDR, a collaboration between DM Ashura, Nobuo Uematsu, and Noriyuki Iwadare?; in the same set as "BNSD" and "H&S")
"The Flight (Instrumental Mix)"
"Hero" (in the same set as "The Flight", not as much for DDR as in general)
"Midoko"
"Break Me Remix" (so good for DDR, but I like "Midoko" better; in the same set as "Midoko")
"Here Come The Skeletons" (not DDR, but well-made and hilarious! Here come the gobolins!!!)
"TECH MOOSO YOU BETTER GET OUT..." (title got cut off, couldn't find it on Broadjam...)
"This is Fate"
"Ween"
"S"
"Espionage"
"Beat Drop"
"mind blown to 1024 bits at 188mph (V12)"
"Sputnik"
"Hot & Sticky"
"Race Against Time"
"Secret Agent"
"Dance With Me"
"Love and Fury"
"Tell Me a Story [Compendium Mix]"
"Coactive" (in the same set as "Tell Me a Story")
"Traveling beyond Time"
"I Just Wanna Leave Forever" (in the same set as "TbT", you might recognize the main melody from KaW's "Supremacy")
I win! Right click "Play" and go to properties, copy the http location and go to it to find the name!!! _________________

I have no bias towards any artists. If I like a song, I like to know what it is. If it is an artist I like/dislike, so be it. However, after you cast your vote, you cannot go back. Thus, if you want to know what a song is, you have to do it before you vote.
The only time bias plays in is when I get, say, "Convergence" and "Let It Go" (tiebreaker?). I like both, but I sort of know Helix Eternal. I ended up going with "Convergence", but I am haunted by my choice for the bias that was present.
The fact is, though, that I have no idea how judging works. I once ended up with a song set on my browser's back button, and I kept on voting on them repeatedly to see if it would go away (I thought that I could only access it because for some reason I hadn't fulfilled the judging requirements, but I was wrong). I hit the back button only because I wanted to figure out the name of the "Trip Machine"/"Twilight Zone"/"DXY" song. I couldn't. It just kept looping to the first set I got when I hit the review button on the main page. _________________

I didn't mean to say you had bias. It's just that a cool name, for example, might make you think of a song differently once you know what it is. It's psychological. You might end up making a different vote that you world have otherwise without realizing it.
I've yet, by the way, to find more than one song I liked at a time.
I think I'm getting a bit unlucky.
Anyway, here's how I think the voting works:
It gives you 3 songs with very close rankings on the list. It gives more points to the one you vote "best" and takes away from the one you vote "good". More points raises it on the list, and less drops it down. The better songs will rise to the top, and the stinkers will drop to the bottom. This way the songs will (in theory) shuffle into a vague order from best to worst.
MIDIHead mentioned that he wouldn't be listening to all the songs. I think this is the main method of making sure the judges won't have to listen to too many songs that don't have a chance anyway.
EDIT:
LOL
I just got a set with two of DM Asura's songs in it. "Obliesk" was the best one in that set. I knew I'd heard it somwhere before, but I thought I'd just reviewed it before. _________________

I understand the psychology, but you have to take into account that DDR uses it too. Part of a song's catchiness is its name. Additionally, I consider the name to be an important part of the artwork.
Yeah, I got DM Ashura's "Euphorium"; it was almost too beautiful for me to vote into DDR. I've even heard your song, Danceatron, but I killed it in the vote. You'll see why when I show the following:
I've been keeping an Excel spreadsheet with my comments on each song I've heard since I started learning the names.
Also, I update post #182 quite often. _________________

I don't know about that. I'm still able to review.
EDIT: Why won't my session expire??? Oh, wait, probably because I'm still active. I'm getting sick of reviewing. I wonder if they are counting it. They blocked entry to the page, but it apparently still works if you can get to it. I'm still on it.
EDIT: I've fully reviewed 150 different songs, I've merely ranked around 30-50 others, and I've encountered at least 5 more that I didn't rank. I can't go on. I'm giving up on trying to find my own song, which I think I pulled before it was on the site (uploaded, but not published: the 0-72 hour thing). _________________

Woohoo...double posting is fun!!
Wow...there was so much mediocre, generic, 120-140 bpm stuff that it got pretty boring. I think I ended up giving extra points to any song that was faster than 140bpm. Honestly, I think my song stands a chance (not to be among the best, but to be among the memorable), if only because it isn't generic.
Did anyone actually hear "Plasma Trip"?
Okay, so here is my chart. Question marks mean something is questionable in its goodness. Energy is not tempo, although they can easily be related. Italics is sort of like a special award from me. Bold is good for DDR. Bold Italics is a combination of DDRness and my kudos.
3 = Good
2 = Better
1 = Best
X(#) = My session expired before I could cast my vote, but I would have given it the number in the parentheses
(These are mostly just thoughts going through my mind. Don't freak yourselves out over any of it.)

Anything that is bolded and italicized is a favorite of mine. I don't want to have to choose between them, since each has its merits.
P.S. You made "Sputnik"? _________________

Yep. My music Production Alias is "The Red Rebel". I generally hang around in the Bemanistyle Music Production Forums. My website Is currently getting on its feet at www.retromancer.com but don't expect everything to be like Sputnik. I do a lot of stuff like
http://retromancer.com/TheRedRebel/Public/The%20Flying%20City.mp3
as well.
And Sorry, I didn't notice your song while reviewing, but If you'd like, I'll take a look and tell you what I thought.
Also, FYI, you never hear your own longs in the review sets. check the main contest page and go to previous submissions to see what actually got entered, and what didn't. |

Well, I only entered one song, and it wasn't very good. Perhaps memorable, but not really good. If you'd like to hear it, check out my web link in my signature or my website button. I would love comments, but don't feel obligated.
P.S. Your site has nothing on it yet.
P.P.S. I want to call you a god among men, but I think I'd get flamed for, I don't know, sacrilege or heresy...or whatever the hell is popular nowadays...hating freedom...
P.P.P.S. I can give more detailed reviews of your songs, a la the reviews that I've given people on ACIDplanet recently (there is a link on my page to Reviews left by this artist) if you would like detailed feedback. You know, the stuff that can help you improve. _________________

Personally, I want a fan made 10, but that's probably not going to happen _________________

More likely than not, it'll be a really crappy 8-footer. Pity.
Best of luck to the winners tomorrow. _________________

I just hope people don't think my "Random Destination" sounded TOO much like "AM-3P" (I was considering making an "FM West Mix" just for S&G).
I'm currently staring at a Winners page with nothing but the word "Winner" on it... I'm guessing this is just due to the fact that it's still early in the morning? _________________
