Since the corresponding one for DDR is somewhat still around, I thought it'd be appropriate to start a similar thread for beatmania US' next game, in the event this release proves popular enough to warrant a sequel:

DX standing for it being improved over the game. E4.gif

Seriously though, thinking of ways to improve the game:
-Songs that people recognize-Some DDR stuff, more licences. Licences are going to be playing a big part because in a game like this, people will be attracted to songs they know and like/understand the game a whole lot better.

-Take the interface from IIDX RED or DistorteD, please don't edit another interface.

-Bring back EX score for the next game as a new way to track records

-Don't use the Japanese grade levels, or don't bump them up a whole lot-at the moment, they are good for new players. I'm talking about how AAA is 6/8ths or whatever of the EX score and so on.

-Scrap the dedicated 5 key mode. It was good for this mix but as a whole it made the songlist quite lacking. Make a 7 key mix of 70-80 songs.

-Get the new features from newer IIDX games

-Keep up the good work done with the videos for the songs exclusive to this game

-Bring back GOLI art in some way.

-Put in more unlocks, such as the gallery and song unlocks

-Internet play? E-amusement ingame?

I do like alot of these suggestions, especially the GOLI arts (sorely lacking from bmUS) and the unlocks suggestion. Unfortunately I'll have to disagree with the removal of 5-key mode, surely there can be some way to work around it.

If Konami listened like they did with EX2, we may yet have a damn good 2nd mix.

Well dt without a shadow of a doubt there will be a part 2 for this game. As far as improvements, i say widen the songlist while at the same time keep the 5 key mode in, because techinically its like a 2 for one deal so, i'm liking that alot as far as menu music goes i would like to see maybe the 6th style menu music for its a very catchy beat, but the main thing i would like to see would be non other than online play. I bet you put that in the game would be great.

hmm.

Something I would change:

If you havn't tried playing 2 players yet, they don't have a the traditional 2 player mode, all they have is battle. I think they should bring back the doubles charts for the 2 player mode and the option to put battle mode on.

Something new to add:

As for more things to unlock, if they don't want to bring back the gallery from the jp versions, I think a "jukebox" type mode would be cool. You would have to meet some requirment for to unlock each song in this mode like they did in gallery, and it would be the song and movie in full screen. Which is some sort of gallery.. I guess. (I like watching the videos. biggrin.gif )

For the love of god make the 2 player side show up on the RIGHT side of the screen when played.

That was by far the worst mistake I have noticed unless there is a way to get it there without having to shrink it down in dual mode. This and the lack of 5 key anothers. Really now, you expect us to replay 5-key normal infinitely?

Only reason I said chop 5 key mode is because it left us with both a mediocre 5key list and a mediocre 7 key list. If they went like, 20-30 5-key 50-60-7 key, that would be fine, but I don't want the 7-key list suffering because of it. I have a modded ps1 and the 5-key beatmania games for that.

Yea, the song selection for BM US is utter crap. Well, save for the few songs that are worth play (Love is Dreaminess, Metal Gear Solid <- who doesn't). If Konami is smart enough, they'll make the next one alot better. Until then, I'm gonna starting collecting the JP IIDX styles.

BTW, I saw on play-asia.com that IIDX RED is coming out on May 18th.

Yeah... I'd rather have something with more variety than the last US release. I have 3rd-10th and something like the above would actually get me excited to buy the game.

My US IIDX 2nd Style wishlist--

1. Make the songlist longer!!! It is kind of sad that this game only featured 58 songs whereas Beatmania 6th Mix + Core ReMix had 62 songs...and it was for the PS1!

2. Either ax 5-key or make it more interesting. Also my roommate who just started playing IIDX after I got this style agrees that jumping between the two is just confusing.

3. Put in some unlocks--not only songlists but some extras that are really hard to get for longer replayablity.

4. Now this is totally wishful thinking but a character selection for all the IIDX DJ's and the result screens are all themed on that one character no matter what the grade is. This would be an awesome US exclusive feature.

5. Please no more over played songs that you've heard at every party you've ever been to with a DJ (I'm pointing at you Funkytown and Celebration).

6. More exclusive songs! Make Japaneses IIDX players want to import our version!

I think a really nice addition to the 2nd US Style would be the reintroduction of Autoplay. I really love the movies that play whilst I'm playing the songs, but obviously I don't have the time to watch them as I'm playing the game.

I don't really care about the UI, and I really don't see why everyone hates this one so much. Sure, it's a little ugly, but it's really not that bad. Besides - who cares what the UI looks like as long as you can actually play the game?

And as for song lists, although I would love to see songs like .59, Absolute, Kakumei, Burning Heat, A, AA, Scorpion Fire, Abyss, Sakura, Miracle Moon, Frozen Ray, B4U, Tomorrow Perfume, D2R, Sync, DoLL... I certainly don't want all of them on the same mix. No matter what game comes out, everyone complains nonstop that song X or song Y didn't get in the game. However, if all of the songs we wanted got in one game, what would there be to put on the next game? And besides, I'm sure there are lot of other great songs out there other than the ultimate fan favorites. It would be nice to see some of these songs, but I do like being exposed to some new songs - I really like a lot of the songs in Beatmania that I had never heard before.

In general, I pretty much agree with everyone else's suggestions. It would be nice to see more exclusive songs, unlocks, characters, GOLI art, and I also think it would be nice to see the return of 5-Key, because it really is like two games in one.

Actually, they have the 'record your own tatsujin' mode, where you can record your best playthroughs and watch them whenever you want (I think you can also remix your own interpretations of the songs, though I haven't played with it really.)

Well if you dislike the interface, let them know! Remember how ugly EXUS' was, and everyone complained? And then how gorgeous EX2's was because of it? They're obviously open to suggestions if they get enough complaints, so it wouldn't hurt to voice your opinions. (But please, do it maturely.)

I really don't think that this UI is that bad, nor was EXUS's. I mean, it wasn't great, and that wasn't even the half of why that game sucked so terribly much. (The reason, of course, was the removal of dance play, which is another matter entirely...). I don't really see why people hate the UI so much, especially because it really doesn't matter how it looks as long as a) it's easy to navigate (which it is) and b) the game is still playable (which it is). How it looks is purely aesthetic and really has nothing to do with gameplay. I'm prefectly fine with beatmania - in fact, I love it, and I could care less about the UI because now I actually /own/ beatmania and can play it more than one hour a year at a convention.

I've always felt that IIDX is a visual experience as well as the gameplay.

Also, yeah, Jack and Mark Get Busy.
