yeah, I was really hoping they'd make everyone a mod again. Don't even need a fake backstory about why everyone was given moderator powers, just let us edit and move around everyone's posts again and it would be good times.

At least the word filters on AIJ were pretty amusing, this was just stupid.

Ok let me run down the April Fools history:

2001 - J Dogg would replace the forums with a paid ad service. (Want proof? Look at archive.org's cache of ddrfreak)
2002 - ??? (I believe that was the dj-8 ball was dead thing)
2003 - KOJ was taking over ddrfreak.com
2004 - Everyone becomes a mod*
2005 - DDRFreak was discontinuing coverage of DDR, and would only focus on ITG & PIU.
2006 - Letters being screwed up in posts.

*- The original joke was supposed to be about the introduction of DDR Extreme II AC. It was talked about for at least a month, but all of us ruined that joke pretty easily. They even tried to fool us with photoshopped pictures.

Right... accidently

This was a good prank, however for most people it made the site worthless after the first minute, I don't have rot-13 encryption on this computer, didn't really know where to go for it, or care to since it's so simple this is an isolated incident.

It would have been nice under FAQs or something on how to fix it.

But it's a good prank, I though the site was crashed, or the server's drive got messed up at first, til I saw on a link into the site (from google) that the same letters were used over and over just moved 13 places.

The '04 April Fools prank was the best (everyone was a mod prank), but this years definately beat last years ITG prank.

Wow, it has been 2 years since the massive chaos that happened in the '04 prank. Bemafia 4evar!!!

Nope.. the only "mod powers" people had during that prank were editing and deleting each others posts. Oh an they had access to a fake mod forum that had all of us talking about how we should start charging for the site so we could afford expensive cars and take better vacations and what-not.

The whole thing was supposed to be that there was "tension" rising up between the mods. Phrekwenci got "banned", mods started divinding, closer to d-day, the more "public" it started becoming.. we were letting our fights slip out on to the public forums. On D-Day, Rampage (I think) was supposed to just pull a huge "fuck you" and give everyone mod powers and reveal the (fake) mod forum to everyone to show what bastards we were.

That idea was good on paper (text?), but once everyone had mod powers, things went shithouse and began to suck. IMO, it started sucking a bit before that happened.. mostly because some of the mods were discussing plans on what to do and fake thread arguements to have on IRC, which not all of us have.. so there ended up being a bit of chaos on our end as well because people were getting lost in what was going on.
