Hi everyone,

I did a search on this game and didn't find any posts, so just wanted to let people know about the preview for this game that I read in my newest issue of PSM. Dance Factory sounds to be a straight-forward DDR clone with one cool feature, the ability to put in a music CD (preview didn't say if it would work with mp3's) and have the game auto-generate steps for those songs with the option of saving the steps for frequently used songs. This sounds to be a key feature, but obviously depends on how well the algorithm can analyze the music and if it can keep the processing time to the preview-stated 30 seconds. Here is the product page on the company site:

Cheers,
Tom

I don't know about this game and I don't think you're going to see too many people here buy it. I'll give it a rental but it looks too gimmicky.

Don't even expect rentals. Rental places don't let you rent games that require additional hardware.

I don't see how the game could sync the arrows to match the song's BPM and honestly, I don't think that it's worth your money. Stay with Stepmania and create steps the way you like it.

Konami had a music game for PS1 many years ago called Goo! Goo! Soundy that was supposed to automatically generate steps for music of your choice. As I understand it, it didn't work very well. Maybe with this being on PS2, it could be better. However, the graphics are kinda ugly. Also I don't know if the steps I've seen were precoded or generated by the game, but from what I've seen of them so far, they look rather basic at best. There are some movies at Gamespot, but you have to register if you want to download them rather than just stream 'em. Another thing I noticed is the up and down arrows are flip-flopped. I've played a couple of DDR knockoffs that do that and it's much more confusing than I expected it to be.

As experienced in Extreme Mission Mode, the up-down switch doesn't affect me much. Now LEFT-RIGHT is a different story, and I can't imagine a game dumb enough to make that standard. biggrin.gif

You can also create your own steps for it.

They better include mp3s...too lazy to covert to a burned CD.

Even though it looks cool(Creature Mode FTW!), but Gamer X is right, too gimicky.

I have GOO GOO SOUNDY FOR ps1. you load the game then take game out then place music CD. Dance Factory cant be that great as it has to be totally loaded onto the PS2 i assume, like GOO GOO was. Anyway, GOO GOO soundy worked, but not very well, and the steps were very easy, basic/light steps. Almost all of the arrows were off beat..

For Dance Factory, I dunno, seems interesting,,,,,,I wil pick it up if it goes down in price.

This ad took up the whole back of ShojoBeat magazine's May issue.

The little text reads: Introducing the only dance game that works with your entire CD collection -- that means the playlist never gets old. The revolution is officially over. And the Dance Factory is just heating up.

...The arrow order bothers me.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't support mp3. I also know the coder behind the project, and I think the step-finder will work reasonably well because he's one of those hard-core low-level assembly programming types. But that's just a guess. riiight.gif

Anyway, being able to make your own steps for music I like makes me very interested in this. Can finally get some DJ Krush and Orbital in there.

But... the arrow switch... *shudder*

When I first heard about this game, I got really excited. I've wanted to be able to make steps to anything since I first got into DDR, and here's my opportunity. Then I began to wonder how they would make something like this work, and I was like, "Maybe it won't be so great after all..." I guess there's no way to find out until I play it. I know DDR has a stepmaker, but all the steps I make on that thing suck, and it takes too long anyway.

I think this game is a little too self-confident to think it can put an end to DDR.

Avoid this. As early screenshots show, it's from the same developers of MC Groovz Dance Craze, the worst game I have ever played.

It's been delayed quite a few times now. Codemasters might be a more strict publisher than Mad Catz was, but I still know the game will be horrible.

God after looking at the pics, it sounds more like Stepmania 0.(1-9).

I read about this game in this month's GameInformer. Apparently they say it works pretty well at generating steps. Plus it looks like they fixed the arrow thing (the arrows are more DDRish in some screenshots).

I wrote some thoughts on the game in my blog.

Has anyone tried this game yet (like at E3 or something)? I guess it might be hard to get worthwhile info on it until it comes out in August, huh?
