Screw EB! I went and got it at Toys R Us.

The US controller is acutally quite nice.
PROS: The keys are much quieter than the KOC version, same spacing, lighter
CONS: The keys are much quieter than the KOC version, the non-slip pads are smaller and the controller slips a little bit on a table, AND THE FRIGGEN TURNTABLE IS STICKY AS HELL! (Can be easily moded with a slippad - two or three wax-paper rings between the plastic rings on the turntable.)

As far as the game goes, I'm having an absolute blast. The songs are great, and there are even some songs I didn't expect, like Genom Screams.

Oh, and the internet scoring - I passed my first course on IIDX (yay!) but there isn't any scoring yet on the site listed.

Man, I'm improving fast too on IIDX mode.

Also, the there seems to be an odd timing offset. It seems like the "perfect" area is below the red line a little bit. I'm getting used to it, though.

Again, I'm having an absolute gas, and screw EB for getting the game two days late. They've done that before.

The difficult settings for IIDX are Beginner, Normal, and Hyper. This basically translates into 5-Key, light-7, and normal 7. I'm not sure about the beginner difficulty because I haven't tried it, but Hyper was normal 7. SO I think it's a fair assumption.

5-Keys is a separate modifier in the options list. Beginner translates into...Beginner. Beginner's Mode has been around since IIDX 5th style CS and was introduced into the arcade versions as of IIDX 12: Happy Sky. Beginner's charts are even easier than Light-7/Normal charts, and are rated from 1 to 3 stars in difficulty, but they still utilize all 7 keys. FYI, Normal and Hyper do indeed reference Light-7 and 7-Keys respectively, but this is actually another change to IIDX as a whole brought first in Happy Sky. Konami didn't alter the difficulty name for "Another," though.

Hey, Larrikin. Are you enjoying the REVERSIBLE TURNTABLE on the new controller?

hate to burst anyone's bubble about the Beatmania US release buuuut:

For those of you who haven't purchased the game here's what I've learned:

1) Best Buy retail Chain does NOT list beatmania on their website.
2) Best Buy's inventory tracker system lists the game as DELETED (meaning they can't order any more and it's no longer being produced) and the details say:
Street Date: 4/04/06 Deleted: 4/06/06
3) My friend who runs/owns a gamestore CANNOT order the game
4) My gamestop and EB both say online "0 in stock, no more on the way"
-This is now untrue. My local stores say there ARE more on the way now.
5) I was told around lunchtime today that: "Beatmania US release will be another DDR Mario Mix release.

Good luck finding copies if all of this is accurate...

I have come to the conclusion that someone doesn't want me to get this game. I pre-ordered it a few weeks before it came out and the estimated shipping date is April 29th for a May 3rd delivery. I checked essentially every Toys R Us/Best Buy/Gamestop/Target for 50 miles and all either said "Won't be in for at least a week" or "What's beatmania?" (exact words from a worker at EB). The only useful place was Target but that was because the worker played IIDX and knew they weren't getting any.

Does anyone in the area of Phoenix know a location to purchase this game? I really don't care about the drive because I've only got one class tomorrow.

I don't think it will.

It won't be the greatest thing ever, but it should be satisfying. Mario Mix isn't satisfactory.

Even if the game sucks, I can import IIDX games and not have to pay 90 dollars for a controller which is what always held me back.

He meant he hopes it's not unavailable like Mario Mix. Mario MIx was an EXCELLENT title. Far beyond satisfactory. Just noa real challenge. But fun and well made.

Beatmania hopefully will not suffer the fate of Mario Mix. I hope it goes the route of Guitar Hero. Minus the upped price to $100 part.

About the timing, i think it changes from song to song. Some songs seem perfectly on beat, and others (IE Stop the violence) just seem waaaay off. I think the 5-key songs are generally more off then most the 7-key stuff.

Why is 5-key in this mix again? Funky timing, no Anothers, is there even really a point? I'd be better off go playing HHM2; at least that had Turning The Motor Over with perfect timing. >.>

ALPHA'S QUICK SLIPPAD EXPLANATION

Things you will need:
- Beatmania Controller
- Screwdriver(s), Phillips Head
- Wax paper
- X-acto knife

1. Eject the buttons and set it aside
2. Remove all the screws from the bottom of the unit, gently lift out the bottom
3. There is a single screw holding the tunrtable in place. Unscrew it. There is a little assembly with the screw, holder, and spring. Set it aside.
4. The turntable can now be removed. There are two plastic rings inside.
5. Fold the wax paper in half and place one ring on top of it
6. Use the Xacto knife to trace the rings on the wax paper. This will create two rings that are the same size and made of wax paper
7. Put the rings back on the tunrtable - alternate plastix-wax-plastic-wax.
8. Put the turntable back together and screw it in place
9. Replace all the screws
