One tip though, play the arcades while they are new before a newbie comes and breaks the up button on light mode.

umm, what kinda poopy arcade pads are you talking about? Seriosely, arcade pads can last YEARS of abuse....they're supposed to! you can just smack the hell out of an arrow and have it break...it doesnt work like that!

and good luck playing on a new DDR machine...until supernova comes out at least.

anyhow, i totally prefer the arcade.

Heck, if i had my licence i would have no need for console versions, hence why im holding off on a CF and dealing with ignitions until i get my licence(a little under 2 years....)

i would personally rather play DDR extreme at arcade than stepmania at my house, no matter how many songs i have? Why? You can't get the "arcade experience" you get at the arcade at your house. Why? because you dont got a crowd, you dont have nice pads and small perfect windows(which make the game MUCH better, but i guess if you have a CF and play with smaller perfect windows you're pretty much ok), and the whole thing(allthough still fun) just doesnt feel the same...

and the first time i played DDR extreme at an arcade was 3 months ago.

we just got our first DDR machine since 2003, when the only other one's location got shut down, and 2003 were before my DDR days.

i expect to play supernova around 2009, also why i'm not very excited about it as you lucky bastards who know you're getting a machine are.

arcade all the way. bigger song selection and the pads rock. plus i like how the speakers at my local hangout pump out the bass. it sounds freakin awesome on break down. also no hot girls show up and play at your house! E4.gif

my only alternative would be a red octane ignition or a flux

well, it's harder for me to score better at an arcade.. but, they have more songs than my UM2. And, like some other guys said, I like to have other people to play with, and to watch me play E15.gif . So, it depends on what mood i'm in i guess, i usually play at home to practice, and arcade for more seriouse stuff biggrin.gif

Not really, Ultramix 2 has Max Unlimited, and a mix of Max 300..Ultramix 3 has Bag, Sakura, and Max Unlimited....Extreme 2 has Sakura, Paranoia survivor, Paranoia survivor max on heavy and Paranoia survivor max on challenge wich is like an 11...

I like playing at an arcade better, because people can see you play, and maybe you will find someone to play against. No one sees me when I'm flailing around on my Ignition in my basement. I wouldn't have wanted to play at an arcade until recently though, because I was still on only Standard before.

-Arcade is mega expensive.
-Home is cheaper in the long run.

-Using edits in an arcade is sometimes impossible and requires technical knowledge.
-Home edits are self-explanatory

-Arcades make you wait in line with noobs playing Butterfly Beginner
-No line at home.

-Arcade is often in bad condition and releases freezes and what not.
-Home pads (at least higher quality ones) basically don't have problems and are durable. Of course, I'm assuming your using a top of the line metal pad.

===============================================

HOWEVER

-Tournaments don't happen in your house.
-No one cares about home scores
-Bar as opposed to nothing or a couch at the wrong height
-Social scene
-Good song selection without having to change a disc every few plays
-Double WITHOUT the two pads drifting away from eachother
Easier to flatfoot in an arcade (I don't exactly know why, but it seems true.)

I usually play at home, but I saw the pros and cons of both environments. I believe that practicing at home and then playing at the arcade is the smartest thing you could do. If you argue the perfect window will screw you up, well, just use the marvellous window. Problem solved.

I agree. Practice at home (and if you have a metal pad you get a teancy weancy bit of the arcade experience, some even come with bars, i'm gonna build a bar for my flux so i can play max 300) then when you are ready play at the arcade. I didn't start goin to the arcade until i could AA 7's. No-one wants to see noobs. Begginner, Light, and Standard are best left at home. Why waste the money when you're not good enough to do alot of songs? It's like, you can't challenge anyone cause there's a 96% chance your gonna get owned.

Yeah. I don't practise at home. Right now I'm absolutley sure that the only pad I can do good on is a metal one, and I don't have one. Currently, the only time I play DDR is at my bowling ally. I do good though, and I'm like, the only serious DDR player who goes there. So I have maybe a 98% chance of getting owned.

At the bowling alley i go to there are 4 serious players me and my one friend have been playing the longest. My other friend almost a year. and this other kid i don't know. But the rest who play are just people who play heavy but are still noobs.

Yeah, well I live in noobville where I am THE ONLY serious player. There used to be 2 others, but they "retired"

I hate when DDR players retire.

Yeah... if they are best left at home, then why are then even in the machine version anyways? For that matter what gives us the rigth to dictate to others where they should play and how? This post REEKS of elitism... you need some considerate deoderant. laugh.gif

Standard should be there cause then it's easier to AA normal Heavy 10's and light for doing freestyle.
