0. Posted: Sun Mar 26, 2006 8:28 am Post subject: Which DDR game should I get? |
|
|
Okay, I'm a newb to DDR and I really want to get it because I fell in love with it when I played it at my friends. I have about 100 bucks to spare so I'm planning on getting a game and one of those "non-slip" pads since they are only a few extra bucks...
Anyway, I have a PS2 (not an Xbox) and I don't know which game I should get! Like I said before, I'm new to DDR and I can also play online. I mostly narrowed it down to DDR Extreme2 and DDR MAX2, but I don't know what to get (I think I should get Extreme2 because of online, but I heard that sucks...)
Please help a poor dude out.
P.S. Don't just say "Get DDR MAX2 cuz I have that one and it rulzors", if you are going to tell me which one to get, make sure you have tried both of them!!!

EDIT: I was thinking about getting this pad... http://www.ddrgame.com/dance-dance-revolution-m03588-m00723.html is that actually a real PS2 thing or is it like an off brand made by these guys? _________________

Get EXTREME 2. IT has a better songlist in my opinion, and the corner buttons can be disabled. So get EXTREME 2.
MAX 2 isnt that bad though. |

Ok, thanks. What about the pad question though?
And corner buttons? I know I don't want any corner buttons. :/ _________________

Extreme 2 is way better. i'm not even gonna bother to look at the pad link.
i have Max 1 & 2, Extreme 1 & 2, ITG 1, and Mario Mix, so if your a begginer, i think that extreme 2 would be good for you, but don't bet on doing to well online. Of course, if you have an xbox get ultramix 3, and if you have a gamecube, then mario mix is so friggin easy that it would be fine to get that. i just got AA on every song practically instantly. *also won it in a contest* _________________

I have to agree about Extreme 2. It's got a better learning curve than the other games, and has good songs, to boot.
And what MAAAX_himself meant by corner buttons is the X and O buttons. People with big feet or odd step placement can often hit them, and they correspond to directions on a PS2 controller, so they can accidentally hit notes at the wrong time.
And pretty much everything I know of from that site is 3rd party, so I don't know if I would trust it, but whatever works for you. _________________

Note that Extreme 2 has a long, complicated unlock system (Dance Master Mode) and it takes a while to get all of the songs, especially if you're just starting out and you can't do much above Light. Max 2, on the other hand, has a simple unlock system; all you do is play the game normally and the songlist will start to get longer.
Personally, I happen to like Max 2 better because of the songs, scoring system, and the ability to still hear the music when you slow down a song in Training Mode (something Extreme 2 lacks, unfortunately).
Oh, and for the corner buttons thing, it's just an option you'll need to turn off when you get the game (both Extreme 2 and Max 2 have it). I think it's in Controller Options --> Dance Play Settings. Set both controllers to Off. That way, the four corner buttons won't trigger arrows if you step on them while playing a song. _________________

Okay, from these replies I think I will stick to Extreme 2
And for the pad, what is the OFFICIAL pad, or what do you think I should get that isn't too expensive? _________________

There isn't really an official pad unless you buy In The Groove.
I would suggest the 1'' foam insert pad from buynshop. Very good quality, economical price. |

There are poor people out there, Flip.... Not everyone can down $300 on a hard pad.
I'm suggest the most economical, but it all depends on how much this person wants to pay. |

Extreme actually isn't a bad choice for beginners. The interface feels more "at home" than those of the other games do, and there are a lot of good songs for introducing you to the game. I'd hold off on Extreme 2 just because it seems too hard for beginners to unlock all the songs by beating DMM. _________________

If you paid more than $300 for a cobalt flux you made a mistake. You could always build your own metal pad if you decide later on you need a metal pad but are stingy with money. _________________

If you can play higher than a 6 on Standard, you will likely quickly hate having a placemat pad. _________________

Those placemat mats are about the depth of, you guessed it, a placemat.
Basically it's 2 pieces of hard cloth sewn together with some sensors inside. Not much effort taken into putting them together. Since you're just starting out you could probably get away with it, but I would suggest duct-taping the corners to the floor so it doesn't move around too much. |

It means that when you play harder songs, playing on softpad will suck.
( I guess ). I'm on 7 footer and it does suck playing on softpad.
Dont fold your pad. it will mess up those sensors inside. Just lay it around without folding it.
Oh and Have fun playing DDR. |
