Firstly, if this is in the wrong spot, or I should be asking something different, mods please move/instruct. I tried searching for the answer but didn't find anything.
Second, I'm very very new to DDR. I've played it at the arcade once or twice, but being uncoordinated I decided I'd get a pad and play it at home instead of embarassing myself in front of the tweens at the arcade.
I have a pad and a USB adapter that works. I have Stepmania all set up. I set it to beginner mode and choose a slower BPM song. I get through level 1 just fine, getting an A or B usually, but when I continue on to level 2 it becomes insane. I fail everytime and the step patterns are outrageous for beginner level. They look more "heavy" to me!
Is there anything I'm doing wrong or something I can do to fix that? I hate failing out everytime at level 2, but it just becomes crazy!

Well, it depends on what song you're picking. Not all songs have Beginner steps, which might be part of the problem. Beginner steps are denoted by light blue feet. Also, make sure that the number of feet is low - stick to songs with 1 or 2 until you're comfortable with those. _________________

Also if you are on beginner or light, you cannot fail the first stage until the end of the song. Once the second stage begins, you can fail as soon as your dance mater drops too low. _________________

You can always just turn fail off or play in event mode. _________________

what exactly do you mean by "level 1" and "level 2"? if youre talking about foot ratings, I really have no clue what to tell you because a 2 footer is barely harder than a 1 footer. If you are talking about "beginner" to "light", it might be understandable on certain songs (La Senorita Virtual, Paranoia songs)... but most of the time it shouldnt be that big of a difference (certainly not "heavy" looking steps). Maybe be a little more specific.... what songs are you dealing with here? _________________

It is also worth mentioning that you lose life faster on your second and 3rd song...
Perhaps some of the stepfiles you have only have heavy steps? try playing the same song 3 times in a row and tell us what happens? Does the actual song speed up because that is an option you may or may not accidently be triggering some how? _________________
