Re: ASC: Wow, you guys must be rich.
Anyhoo, anyone who's messed with the demo version - how much has the timing windows been changed, if any? (The complaint I got regaurding the US DDR versions is that the timing windows were the size of a barn.) |

IMO it's probably more difficult to tell without the use of a IIDX controller (the final version will infact support the Japanese ones, it just happens that the demo is using the default dualshock layout.)

I find it easier to get used to the TT(Turn Table) at the arcades cause of the KASC own. It's harder to get use to the TT at the arcades when you're used to the KoC. That's just my opinion _________________

I was able to use a Pop n Music control on the USA demo so I don't see why a BM control wouldn't work... |

Ooo... That's an interesting tidbit. If you didn't know, Pop'n controllers have a special signal to indicate to the game that they are, in fact, Pop'n controllers. (Left, Down, and Right are all constantly pressed, for the curious.) The IIDX games have all recognized that signal, and implement a special controller mapping that converts the Pop'N layout to the IIDX layout. IIDX controllers have no such signal, which is why you have to manually tell the game you're using one.
I don't want to infer from this that Konami has any plans to bring Pop'N to the US, since the functionality was already in the IIDX engine, but it's of note that they didn't remove the functionality, meaning that if they ever did decide to release Pop'n, the controllers would be compatible with Beatmania. |

Excellent, if the Beatmania controllers aren't that great then Pop'n can come to the rescue!
Especially helpful because I play Beatmania with a Pop'n controller right now. _________________

At my local EB the game without controller has been discontinued -- but then I live in a fairly urban area of Canada (one of few!) _________________

You might be stuck buying the bundle. If you don't already have a second controller just keep it. Or, I guarantee you'll find a buyer online someplace. _________________

I sold my guitar hero to get the money for this game.
Songlist seems pretty rounded. _________________

If by rounded you mean 3rd style -new songs collection- then sure.
3rd&4th style were certainly the good days to start out though, since it was so easy to gauge how good you were. There was 5.1.1 L7, Holic Another, and everything else in between.
Beatmania US is sort of a clone of those, with lots of rediculously simple 7key stuff and then a stream of fairly passable stuff that doesn't really prepare you for the wrath of the following anothers: Holic, Nemesis, Colors and V, in that order.
Gentlemen, prepare for whoring to no end! _________________

Well, I for one wasn't that impressed with the demo, but it wasn't terrible. By which I mean to say that it didn't overwhelm me or put all of my worries to rest, but it DID have some pleasant surprises and was by no means a failure in my estimation.
In particular, the 5-key stuff has been given a major face-lift. The video for MGS: Main Theme is particularly awesome.
No matter what anyone says about it, I'm still against "Perfects" in Beatmania. It's just one of my quirks. That having been said, however, it wasn't too distracting once I actually tried it.
In addition, the songlist seems to have virtually nothing challenging in it, with V being about the toughest song on there. Which, of course brings me to another point entirely: should this song be on EVERY Style released on the PS2? I mean, seriously...
One small detail I noticed: it seems like they completely phased Tran out of the menus and stuff (such as her saying "Bye-bye!" at the end of arcade mode). It just seems kind of odd, since she was sort of the unofficial "mascot" of IIDX, and one of the most instantly recognizable IIDX characters.
Funkytown needs to die. Enough said.
I really think, though, that this is a step in the right direction for Konami. I'm glad that they took serious pains to make the game more accessible for its introduction to the American audience, so I'll definitely give it props there. Funkytown and a couple of other songs notwithstanding, I also can't really fault the song list. It's got a decent amount of genre variety - especially compared to 9th Style - and it has just enough recognizable tunes to make new players feel a little less apprehensive, I believe.
So, that's my take on the Demo version. It looks interesting, so I'll definitely wait and see what develops. _________________

Um V isn't that hard compared to Holic Another. Colors is pretty difficult too. _________________

I've passed Holic Another. I'm not even CLOSE to passing V Another. However, I will grant you that it's all a matter of opinion. _________________

well lets put it this way...... i suck at beatmania... but i havet been playin that long.... i just got into it like 2 months ago... i have only been able to play some 4's and a few 5's on 7 key... i struggle with the 6's on light 7... so i think the songlist they chose would be ok for my skill level... plus having it on the PS2 would be great... i do however have to say that like US DDR games Konami decided to Americanize the songlist in a lot of ways... i dont have anything against that though becase I love the americanized DDR games Konami has brought here... but this is beatmania so i hope they stick with everything that makes IIDX great otherwise there will not be hope fr a 2nd Beatmania title... but its kind of sad that we would never get good stuff like Daisuke, Injection of love, murmur twins, Love Love Shine, The Strong Jager, and 1st Samurai.
now as for that Demo i bought the playstation magazine just to play that demo... well i would have to say that the interface doesnt have the great feel of the IIDX red interface nor the great sounds of IIDX red.... it still works its purpose... but i dont like that they divided half the songlist on 5 key and the other half on 7 key... couldnt they just assign the 5 key songs 7 key charts and do the same with the 5 key charts... it would really expand the replay value. I also did not like the flashing perfect... it was kind of like konami DDRing IIDX... perfects need to stay in DDR... i like the flashing great... the free zone scratch was awesome i really liked that one... funkytown is a terrible US liscense for beatmania... has Konami taken any advice from the liscenses that they have on DDR... get some better liscenses.. i would love to play silence, sandstorm, take me away, diving, and especially Pump up the Volume... those songs or in that similar style would be an excellent choice for liscenses as compared to funkytown and celebrate... now aside from those small complaints... i am still getting the game because............ Its beatmania and i would love to be able to play beatmania at home... but i am not expecting this to be on par with a IIDX game. The demo did kind of give me the feeling the IIDX game was toned and watered down to appeal to the people who have no concept of IIDX, the general population who listens to britney spears, and the cutesy girls who walk the mall and squeal " OMG chelsea!! you are like so fat... lets slim down ans play beatmania because its the new pink and the new abercrombie... and its got funkytown" then chelsea says... " ewww... funkytown thats a terrible song and celebrate... what is this this game... was it made in the 70s" and there goes the hope of having a 2nd beatmania title released here.... so whatever you do people whether this game sucks or not............
Buy it and support beatmania in the US and we could possibly get some more IIDX songs... because if you read th paragraph above... you now that Chelsea aint buying it because it aint the new abercrombe and it wont slim you down, and she complans it was made in the 70s and is not going to give it a chance or look a the full songlist... but Beatmania is the old music game to be new when it hits our shores... ok maybe not that drastic... but buy it!!! _________________

You can't compare it to something that isn't out here.
Oh, and DistorteD dominated RED for interface--pardon, interfacES.
As for rest of the post: what |
