When I suck however, I'll just stop trying and not hold the bar anymore because I'm not trying to score. Thus, I'll "bracket-rape." The hardest song I've bracket-raped is a 9. |
Really bad balance or something? =\
The only people I see here using the bar for 2-4 footers are the ones who go "oh look at [Kaku] play, he uses the bar for all the songs, I guess that's the way to go". I personally use the bar for ANY song I am trying to score on except for Survival courses (unless it has some weird mod). I'm just disgusted that some people think that holding onto the bar is the only way to play. I'm not condoning either playstyle since I use the bar until I don't feel like going for a high score anymore. At that point, I let go and just finish the song so I can play the next.
But for the thread, the hardest song I've passed without the bar is probably HotN. I could probably pass more, but I never go no-bar for hard songs unless I specifically choose to and ignore score. Since I always go for score, this never happens. I think I tried Summer once without the bar for the heck of it, and failed in the 2nd last stream. _________________

I suppose if you read at that high speeds it's required. I can't do Summer 4x without the bar either. 3x perhaps.
I don't get how Novice mode would require any technique though >_>
Personally, on harder songs with more arrows I prefer 500+ bpm speeds while songs below 5-6 feet I prefer under 400. It has to do with the number of arrows on screen at a time I guess. _________________

Hardest without the bar: Queen of Light Expert
Hardest with the bar: No idea seeing as I've never used the bar, ever. _________________

Oooh! Good call with Tell. That's my hardest too. I practiced "Tell-jumps" for weeks on and off the pad (yes, I actually was practicing Tell jumps at school during lunch in the cafeteria just so I could get them down.) And finally after playing this song on x0.7, x0.8, and x0.9, I got it! I've never tried this in the arcade, but I'm betting those jumps are a LOT easier with the bar.....especially to score on. _________________

You call bar-raping every frick song on 4x "advanced technique"?
It's an aid for people who can't move that fast without it. It is just a more casual excuse in In the groove. Where's the skill in that? I can teach my 7 year old cousin to bar rape pandemonium hard in a week.
advanced technique huh. I bet leaning is an advanced technique too then. Why do you think all of a sudden there are so many players who can do 11's and such, with ITG's release? It's more of a workout for your arms. You may as well just do flexed-arm hangs for a half an hour to a CD with "Kyle Ward's greatest hits". |

ITG2 not in arcade yet (damn delays) so all my homescores are no bar. Hardest songs I can pass (in order of hardest to easiest for me) on Expert are My Favorite Game, Anubis, and Queen of Light. _________________

Um... if player1's scores are better then player2's scores and player one uses the bar and player 2 doesn't... player one still wins. Its there to be used... if you dont use it and someone gets a better score then you... THEY BEAT YOU, playing no bar to make up for having crappy timing(saying OMG you cheated for example) doesn't make you better then a bar player with good timing. Scores are the same bar or no bar... seriously, people that are good enough couldn't care any less about whether the bar was used or not. For those of you that do not respect high scores with bar but respect really low passing scores no bar need to realize that the game isn't different without the bar compared to with the bar, you are still stomping arrows. |

Yeah, almost all of the highest scorers bar rape and use high speeds. C'mon, look at the ITG Nationals. 90%+ were high speed bar rapists.
I'm not too awesome at ITG yet. My hard scores are all high double stars and triple stars though. SUP BAR. SUP SPEED. SUP NORCAL IS BETTER THAN YOU (except if your name is DukAmok). _________________

Yes but if player 1 doesn't use the bar and player 2 does, player 2 should be freaking embarrassed. _________________

Well somtimes bar rapers can get really annoying like this time i was in the arcade this guy played against me we did bend your mind i picked hard he picked medium and he used the bar i was like dude you don't need the bar for every freaking song especially on medium or hard (unless its like pandimonium on hard)..... well it turns out he got an S- and i got an A+ he still beat me but i would much rather see anyone get a 10 to 20% lower score w/o the bar then someone who uses it. I mean if I had to play the game my way i would rip the bars off both the pads (they do get in the way alot espcially if you have long arms like me) but then again thats just my opinion. i guess the thing that makes me mad about using the bar is that you might as well not even call ITG a dance game because it seems like your pinned down holding onto the thing and barley moving your upper body. it dosen't even look like your dancing it just looks like some guy holdling on to the bar for dear life while his legs spaz out. to me dance game are made to move all your body when you dance you constantly rotate your body for the next step swing your arms etc. not exactly free style but close. I just dont see how anyone can call bar raping dancing becuase its not. But yes it all comes down to play the game as you want to. Now i will shut up |

So in your opinion you would rather see someone get 80-90% on Vertex^2 no bar, then QUAD STAR IT with the bar?
And you want us to take this seriously? _________________

This is amazing. According to some people on this thread, the only good ITG player is pickles because of no-bar policy.
After all, Mike Q. and Kevbo suck because they use the bar....
...oh wait, Kevbo and Mike have TRIPLE STARRED SUMMER!!!! But after all, that's not impressive. ANYONE could do that with a bar.
