I got two Ignition 3.0 pads off of Ebay. (50 bucks)
Already I have a weird firing on the up arrow on one
and the other came without the usb connector.
Multiple emails and calls to Redoctane are without reply.
Surely there has to be a replacement cable.
I tried making one from the XBoX connector as in the Stepmania FAQ with XBCD but it wont recognize the pad....
Anyone? Other than lecturing me on buying the Ignition 3.0 off of Ebay?? |

You're not going to get any "help" (for what it would be worth) from RO since you bought the pads from a third party, not directly from them. The XBCD drivers won't work the the Ignition, believe me I've tried. Basically... you're screwed, unless you try modding the pad. Sorry. _________________

Well, my 3.0 died, even after duct-taping. The right arrow panel is going off on its own.
Only my 2.0 is half alive with unresponsive panels. =\
Knock-off Ignitions, here I go...
*keeps the inserts for both pads* |

I have a Ignition 3.0 Pad, last year i played it on my stepmania with no problem, i was slacking off pc to play at arcade, today i tried to plug it into my pc, Windows XP detects it as "Red Octane USB Pad" but it doesnt install the drivers, last year, it worked as i plugged it. Now i need the drivers, I Searched them for 1 hour, and I couldn't find them, someone has the same problem? _________________

Bought a Ignition 3.0 last week. Ive used it twice for a total of about 2.5 hours. The back arrow quit on it tonight. I'll be returning it to Best Buy tomorrow. Can't wait for my CF to get here. |

The nonstick bottom of mine seems to have faded. Any way to revitalize it's power? Or should I just get double-sided duct tape/double-side my single-sided duct tape by means of folding?
Or what? _________________

Okay, I'm a bit confused.
The concensus in this thread seems to be that the RO Ignition v3.0 has, at minimum, serious quality control issues, and possibly just sucks altogether.
However, browsing through the threads relating to other Ignition-style pads, I keep reading stuff like, "A decent pad if you don't want to spend $100 for a RO" or "This pad sucks, just get a Red Octane," etc.
So, uh, I guess my question is, for the 95% of posters in this thread who hate the RO, what would you say is a good Ignition-style pad?
Or maybe the RO really is the gold standard for Ignitions, but inherently any pad (except a CF) is going to look bad in its designated thread because that's where all the people with bad experiences will post it? Argh, confused!
(FYI, I'm leaning towards an Ignition-style pad because using a soft pad on a hardwood floor is too hard on my feet, and I don't want to spring for a CF just yet) |

I'd recommend the Madcatz McGroovz Beat Pad Pro. That bad boy held up to me playing on heavy, every single day, for about 6-7 months. _________________

I am a total newbie. Ordered two 3.0s in a "package deal" from RO. They arrived yesterday and I ripped one out of the box eagerly and plugged it in. Starting from the first song I played, three arrows worked great and the back arrow had a problem. Basically, it works intermittently. I played for three hours straight and had fun, but that back arrow sure is an irritation.
Also, due to an ankle problem, I must wear shoes--specifically my sneakers with custom inserts. Has anyone successfully used a RO Ignition with shoes? I called RO and they say they absolutely don't recommend using shoes. But I have no choice, and a metal pad will be even harder on my ankle.
There used to be a plastic cover for the RO Ignition which allowed you to wear shoes, but RO told me on the phone that they don't sell it anymore because "it's a product that didn't work out for us." Don't know what that means, but if anyone has successfully used shoes on any soft pad without busting it I'd like to know. |

sneakers really shorten the life of Ignitions, mine burned out in 3 weeks with sneakers. If you desperately need to wear sneakers, go light on it |

Thanks for your answer. When you say "burn out" what do you mean? Was the problem a surface rip, or underneath?
I bought a used backup 2.0 on ebay which has the old plastic cover. If the damage is mostly to the surface I may be able to extend the life by always using the plastic. |

Do yourself a favor and get one of these:
http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo/4985/VG-DDR-ULTDX/
BNS DX-Xtreme. Same type of pad, just a different brand; I have two of 'em myself. One's lasted for maybe 1.5 years and I play on heavy, hard, expert.. the arrow tore a bit recently and some stuff but performance wise it's almost like new. |

Orb--You gave it this use with or without sneakers? |

Good lord, you'd instantly tear it with sneakers. |

This has probably already been covered in this post, but I don't feel like wading through all 22 pages to find what I'm looking for. Is there a place where I can still get a Ignition 3.0 pad (or similar that works well) and get an extended warranty on it? I've checked the typical online game retailers (ebgames and gamestop), and neither of them carry the pad anymore it would seem. If I can't find one with an extended warranty, I may end up buliding one, which I'd rather not do due to lack of portability and time it takes to make one. |

Not instantly. I'm at 13 hours of play and it's still working. Actually, the initial problem with the back arrow seemed to work itself out...I suspect it just needed a little time to get unkinked after being all bunched up for shipping.
So far I'm happy. It costs me maybe $5/hr at the arcade to play, so if I can get 20 hours out of this one I'm at least even... |
