^ Hah, I had to usually repair mine after every session of arrow stomping to keep mine working correctly. But every once in a while, the pad would work fine.

Anyways. My down arrow sucks x1000.

The skin finally kinda ripped off of the arrow, and I tried to fix it somehow. I just put a buttload of packaging tape over it, hoping thatd fix it.

Oh yeah, and that white thing? Thatd be the raised "cushion" these ignitions sport. The things slowly moved upwards, and if you were to go by feel, my down arrow is about 4-4 1/2 inches off. Thats another fun feature on this here pad.

But after doing all this work, the pads being a craphead. I keeps ghost stepping when you get remotely near the arrow. (aka, if you hit the left or right arrow, it registers, and usually totally screws you up) So Im thinking I might have to dive in and try and add some more cushioning so it wont keep doing that.

Yeah, Ive had that feeling. At home, on my Ignition, I usually get Bs on the song. But arcade wise, I usually FC the songs and get an A or higher on my songs (save unless Im on a really bad machine).

im sorta the same way, the pad im looking for needs to have an arcade feel...like as close as it gets...itll help my practice alot. But either way, it might be possible to make one instead of buying one, but i dont quite know how =)

And that saving move is Open Pad Surgery! After my down arrow decided to be stupid and start ghost stepping (probably thanks to the arrow cushion moving way far up and leaving no cushion for the circuitry to rest on), I decided to rip'er open and see what I could do.

First off, time to make the incision. As you can see, I had some scissors handy, as well as a box cutter to try and open up the arrow hole as nicely as possible.

Theres the down arrow. Im sure its seen better days.

(Notice the big giant hole in the arrow. LOL)

Now, heres what one of those "cushions" on an Ignition pad look like. They dont even bother to make it a full square! Pfft.

So, I decided to tape the cushion in place as good as possible.

The final step was pretty much dumping half a roll of packaging tape on top of the arrow so it wouldnt come off. The way its layered, each layer on top is a safety for the one below it. That should last.

Well, now its time to see if my pad works or not. Some testing will probably be required.

about four years ago, I got a konami dance pad, and it still works but really sucks, I have no pics.

Okay, this was the last thing I tried before officially declaring my dance pad dead. Ive seriously run out of ideas on how to try and make it live any longer! I thought the ghost stepping may have resulted from the top layer of skin sticking to the paper circuitry. So I decided to do one more Open Pad Surgery, hoping this would fix it.

So, I cut open the middle of the pad, and got ready to insert....

Cardboard! Yep, I thought cardboard would help, since itd raise the skin off the circuitry, and have something that would seperate it and possible stop the ghost stepping....

So, I finally tested it out. It worked good....for about 10 minutes. Then it just flopped. The down arrow stayed lit at all times, and there wasnt a way for me to repair it. So, RIP Level Six Ignition Pad. 2003/04-2006.

Modifications to this pad included:

One large 33"x33" Plywood anchor board
Duct tape...lots of it.
One cut and modified down arrow
One cut and modified center platform, with cardboard inserts reaching all arrows
Did I mention the duct tape?

So, now its off to go build my own pad. The only pad that I thought wouldve been good for me is a CF, but Im thinking I could build my own and make it even better without spending $300.

Sorry for your loss lol, but of course, a new pad is always nice. I spend almost 2 hours yesterday wrapping up a piece of plywood and duct tapin my pad on there to prevent slipping, works great.

I got a similar idea, im triyng to find some blueprints, and me and my dad are making it a project =) We should post screens if we ever build one =)

My modded ignition is epic. I don't have any pics or anything, but i can tell you that first i made a custom plywood insert to solidify the pad. About 2 weeks after I got my 3.0 (my 2.0 had just died), the 3.0 was starting to crap out.... ghost stepping all over the place, exitable arrows, etc.... so i decided that was it.... i was going to preform ultimate surgery on my ignition. I cut it up and carefully took out the CRAPPY and i mean CRAPPY holed foam inbetween the two contact layers. This foam IS the reason why Ignitions last so little.... it's a joke. After two weeks some of it was literally disintegrating in my hands. So i got some 1/4 inch thick foam that was much more quality than the crap they use, and after hours upon hours of tedious work, i cut out my own holes and carefully taped the new holed foam in. i was shocked that it actually worked, and it still works great after several months and can stand up to plenty of higher level ITG songs.

Ive designed a new sensor system for the TX series pads that involves sheet metal on sheet metal contacts nailed into the frame on the bottom side with penny nails and the top sensor ducttaped to the arrows bottom. It works very well with foam core on the corners and weather stripping in between. I'll make a tutorial soon.

I think that you mean by TX series the TX1000/TX2000 pads. Other pads don't need to be modded and the TX3000/TX5000 can't be modded.

Im really suprised about these Ignitions dying out in under a week and such. I managed to get my LevelSix (which is probably why it didnt die, come to think of it) to go for so long, and it seems these Red Octane ones are crap or something.

OT (sorta): Oh, and I managed to talk to one of my friends who owns a CF this Saturday. We talked, and hes selling me his CF pad for $200! He says he used it very little, and when he did, it was on Standard. So Im pretty excited about that.
