So, whats your worst condition pad that you can still use? Here be mine. (Its over 2 years old, and its still playable.

my thin sheet plastic third party pads that costed me $15 for 2 that I got for christmas of 2001 still work for me with no tears, just some curls
granted, I only used it on average of 2 hours a day for about 8 months before I switched to using a friend's ignitions =P |

Pfft, not only can I use that, I can still pass 11s and 12s on it (with accurate ITG timing windows).  I will have to admit though, its not as lively as it was when I got it 2+ years ago. And the foams in such bad shape, I had to drop the pad on top of a large piece of plywood and duct tape it down.

I had the same pad as you and bought it around the same time also. And I had duct tape and rips everywhere too  Sadly, it died a few months ago. I guess I just played on it a little too much. |

Here it is el oh el!
Sorry some of the pics are blurry.
Transparent Duct tape Mania;
Arrows are a-crakin, smell that duct tape;
The wood got hosed so the screws wonât tighten. Not to worry.. I have Duct tape;
The Red and Blue arrows in this pic where too cracked so they became the new X and O buttons. Also on some of the arrows I used some strong flexible glue plus duct tape to stop them from being destroyed. The combination of super strong glue and duct tape is working great;
This is a sensor (which as been soldered and taped many times. The foam in my arrows has flattened too much. The solution? Cut up old socks and duct tape them in there for more cushioning (Duct tape + old socks = FTW);
Bottom of an arrow;
As you can see, I stuck pieces of cardboard under the metal parts on top of the pad to get that "arrow recessed" feel;
Oh and here's my "bar." Its a step stool with weights on it;
Owned, Hosed and smoked.

OMG, i didnt even think that metal pads could get THAT bad!! OMFG (nice job )
and i like that "bar"...nice idea, might have to try it 
(and that, um, "new sensor" is a good idea too)
this really proves that duct tape fixes everything!

Only problem with the duct tape is that it peals a lot from your feet flying by - unless you use some super flexible glue and the duct tape at the same time, then it hardly peals at all.

Yeah, you win. That's even more beat up than the piece of junk pad that I built...and I've shattered out several panels on that. Saddly, I think your pad still works better despite the shape it's in.

Nopeâ¢, what kind of transparent tape do you use? I just blew the skin off the top of my down arrow (and the circuitry is exposed, causing mad ghost steps), and I need some tape thatll actually down. My clear packaging tape flies off within 30 seconds of use, and duct tape just doesnt hold down at all..... (Late Afterthought) I can probably just flip the pad and have the down arrow become the up arrow....
I have a pretty beat up metal pad. It didnt even last a month. I gave up on it. It just sits on the side of my closet now. Only good for parts.

Well I haven't worked with soft pads.
The tape I use is duct tape but itâs a clear kind made by 3M.
My taping peels up too depending on my feet moving across my pad at certain angles - thatâs why in my pictures some of the tape is curled up because my foot movements.
To resolve this problem I first put this kind of flexible glue down:

And then I put the duct tape over the glue. This made it so that the tape would hardly ever peel up.
Of course I havenât glued the entire pad yet â as the pictures show - because Iâm too lazy.
(And a side note: Iâm not sure if that glue is the best to use because itâs the only glue I have used so far on the pad. The link says âlight household repairsâ which makes me think twice now about using it.)
The problem I see with your pad is that putting that kind of glue on a soft pad with the circuitry exposed might be a bad idea.
Another technique I use to keep the duct tape down is to use long strip and wrap the tape around underneath the arrows.
You might want to take the duct tape and wrap it around the whole pad over and over instead of just putting on little strip of it down (yeah that will take a lot of tape haha).

That bar holds up well.
I have it resting on some folded up carpet and on some smaller weights at the base of the legs to help keep it in place.
Actually it barely moves.
I had one of the top players in the state at my house a few weeks ago (he has beaten Kevbo in a tourny before and Kevbo has beaten him, etc) and he loved my setup. He preceded to SDG the 10 footers (no AAAs on the 10 footers because he has been horribly out of practice) and after only 2 tries almost SDG Max. Period all while using my bar - so it passes the test.
Also, the only thing that went wrong with the pad while he was playing was that one wire kept splitting in the left arrow - but thatâs because it was being smashed against something - so I fixed that.
