Disco and its relations to DDR...

Are we all essentially just listening to Disco 2.0?

Consider that Europe usually takes in America's deceased genres of music and keeps them alive for a while longer (this has held true for jazz, blues, rock and punk in years past). Disco is no exception... in fact, I've heard it said that Eurobeat is the direct successor of Disco in Europe, which has a great influence on Dance music here in America. (There's ALWAYS a level of influence from other genres in music, I'm referring to a higher level than usual in the case of Eurobeat.)
Are we as dance game players into just an updated version of disco?

The music might have disco origins but I don't think the gameplay is relevant.

Well the dance games have many, many different genres of music so it is kind of hard to just call it all disco. It is a "music game," not a "disco game."

Since the game is called DANCE DANCE revolution, and since Eurobeat/Disco/Trance/whatever music is usually good for getting a groove on, I think therefore it would make sense to use this music in a game like this. The steps have nothing to do with the music style whatsoever, and the game is obviously not limited to Eurobeat (look at ITG). I wouldn't say it's disco 2.0, but just a fact that it has continued.

Mikl, Tekkie, I didn't mean to refer to ALL the music as "disco". I was referring to one of the most popular genres in DDR, Eurobeat. A good chunk of DDR is Eurobeat of some sort.
And... I just sorta found it interesting that music so closely related to Disco could do so well in pop culture (or, as well as it's doing now, anyway).

Techno
Dance
Trance
Eurobeat
Happy Hardcore

among others.......

I see what you mean, but they mostly put in songs that make you wanna dance (eurobeat, trance) or have a good beat (techno). I wouldn't say that the majority of the music in dance games is dicso-y, it's probably just a good type of music that goes well with them.

House, Hi-NRG, Techno, Trance, Disco, etc. are all forms of dance music. Disco stopped being called Disco when the term Disco became embarrassing to some people. But it's all dance music.
