You're always welcome, but I can't tell if there's even one of those yet... it's been a while since I've been to an arcade _________________

Hmph. I've noticed so many people that love Premiere 2, and hate Prex 3. I hate Premiere 2. We have the O.B.G mix here, and it's terrible. Larpus, Winter, Beethoven, Slam, Dr. M, and Don't Bother Me are the jest of the best songs.
On the other hand, I love Prex 3. It's the machine I learned to play on. Starian, Mexi Mexi, Hypnosis, Beat of the War, all the ones listed for Premier 2, Circus Magic, etc..... What's everyone hate about it?
Does anyone know if the D&B in Houston has PIU: Zero. I know this is SW, but I figured maybe someone knew. _________________

None of the D&B's have Zero yet, apparently. I just communicated with their top corporate guy via e-mail last Friday, asking why it was taking so long for them to get it, and he said he straightened out an ordering problem he found. He said their stores should be receiving it soon. _________________

It's not really that PREX 3 is hated, it's just that the stuff in it is easily accessible, since most of the songs carried over to Exceed and beyond.
Premiere 2's tracks are a lot rarer. It has all of the old songs before Extra, and about 20 new songs that never made it past PREX 2(Emperor, Miss S' Story, Temptation, Y, Whistle, Gentleman Quality, Swing Baby... a LOT).
Now with Exceed 2 all over the country, finding a Premiere 2 means old school city, and many players still love that stuff(myself included).
O.B.G. is great too, though. It's got remixes in it that never appeared in any other mix ever. (YMCA, People Crew/Honey Family, Final Audition Episode I/Chicken Wing, etc.) _________________

That's what really bothers me about pump. I know what they were trying to go for with the blue=back orange=forward thing, but especialyl at slow speeds how are you supposed ot read tehe dang rythyms liek on DDR? |
No.
The arrows are the same as they were in the Exceeds, with the exception of some new note skins (flower cards from Exceed 2 / slime / musical notes / OBG arrows / etc.).
No 'vivid'-type arrows. Just as it does when you first start playing DDR, reading PIU steps takes practice. _________________

DDR is definitely known for making songs that you need to rely on vivid/solo to get the timing informationproperly for some of the arrows. If they do similar styles of steps in some songs in pump, that quickly becomes unfun, playing guess the beat. |
Games like Beatmania IIDX, Guitar Freaks, DrumMania, Pop'n Music, etc do not have notes color coded to the beat either. People still manage though, since it's just something you get used to. _________________

The major flaw with that idea is that hand-eye coordination is much more responsive and quick that "foot-eye" coordination is. Basically, you can fudge it using your hands and still do somewhat well whereas with your feet, if you're off - you're usually way off. _________________

I went down to the Dave and Busters in Mission Valley in San Diego, CA, last Saturday because I thought Dave and Busters would have Pump Zero. Alas, they did not. I never played PIU before and was looking forward to give it a try. The preview video makes it look quite good.

I still don't have it either, gar! It's because of the D&B problem. Hopefully have it soon. Starting tournaments soon and still haven't been able to play one Zero song *sigh*
It funny, 2 things some of you have mentioned: arrow coloring & confusing interface of PIU --- As a Pump player who doesn't play DDR often enough to get used to it, its opposite for me: Seeing colored arrows on DDR messes with my brain and doesn't really help that much because I'm used to not having them & the DDR interface confuses the hell out of me, lol. It just goes to show that its all about what you're used to, thats all. I'm sure if I played DDR more it would become natural, I'd learn the meaning of all the codes, and all that jazz.
I've heard that Zero isn't a great version for freestyling, like, the step charts aren't made well for freestyling. There's some pretty rad new hip hop songs but if they have goofy step charts, then... God I hope this isn't true and its just people complaining...please please please _________________

It probably is true... Jump sounded good for Freestyle... then someone bust me over the head with a "It has no Freestyle steps!" They also said some songs that previously had steps on certain modes have the charts missing (Andamerrors?) so from what I'm hearing... I think the only reason an arcade should get this mix is because of... well the interface.... as far as I know the songlist is smaller or about the same size as Exceed 2... the songs sound good but like Smidget said, if the charts suck then what the hell is the point? |

In some parts yes, a lot of ways no. There's some Nightmares with awesome freestyle steps. And the hiphop songs have great freestyle steps in my opinion(Emergency, Storm, and especially All Famy[it's got a huge section with no steps near the end that just screams for improv]).
I liked them, at least. When Zero gets insane, it's absolutely ridiculous, but there's a lot of fun to be had too. _________________

I have no problem with the 5-button layout compared to 4-button.
I just don't understand why anyone would play a game that doesn't color 8th notes differently than quarter notes. Sure, you can just put the scroll speed on 3x, but that's hardly a solution.
When PIU first came out, I wondered how they could have "forgotten" this. I was sure it would be fixed in Exceed 2. I've now decided that PIU just doesn't care. |

But like people have said, IIDX/Pop'n/PPP don't color notes by musical timing and those work out just fine. _________________
