First off, why would you care what anyone "preppy" would have to say anyways? They are the SNOBS of the school who think they are better than anyone else at anything. When I was in high school, I just pretended I had ear plugs in my ear to tune them out casue they were so fricken annoying.
Second, the obvious truth is right in front of you... THEY ARE JEALOUS!!! Either they tried it once and failed miserably so they have to mock it, or they have never tried it before and thinks its the dumbest thing to happen. C'mon you are gonna get discouraged by these people?! Please... if anything we will be the ones ahead of the times and they will be WAY FAR behind. Who says you can't have fun while having revenge, lol. _________________

Really, a lot of people mock us and a lot love us. Just depends on the crowd really. I think one of the main reasons is that they just don't understand how dedicated we are and they really don't realize how had we try at what we do. When people laugh at me, I bet them money... They shut up then. WE TRULY ARE THE ARCADE WARRIORS! Nobody is as dedicated as we are and nobody loves what we do as much as us! |

Because some people are just plain assholes. With pretty much anything you do there will be at least one or two people mocking you for it, so it's best to just ignore it and do what you love doing.
I was made fun of a few times but the one that really stands out is when these two obnoxious preppy looking girls walk up behind me as I am playing start saying things like "Hey look, it's DDR--Dumb Dancing Retard!" Funny thing was I was playing Frozen Ray and gave them the finger as I was doing the spins...didn't see them after that.

DDR players aren't the only people who take their little video games very seriously. _________________

Quote: | This kind of mentality is the self-reasssuring, egotistical mentality shown a lot in this thread. "Oh, they're just jealous of our skill." No. I guarantee that 99 out of 100 people who "omg make fun of you" because you play DDR think that DDR looks dumb (because it DOES), or they just don't like it for one reason or another. |
I dunno about that. The only two people I know, or have met that absolutely hate DDR, are two good friends of mine. They don't give me or my other DDR playing friends poopy for playing, they just hate the game and hate when we play when they're around.
One of them played a few times but has hated it since. The other played along with the rest of us, when we were all sucky and on beginner/light. Once I went on to standard and heavy and was followed by another friend, he suddenly hated the game and won't play anymore. That leads me to believe they don't like the game because they aren't as good as they wish they were.
I've seen, a few times, high school kids mocking me while playing DDR from window, but it doesn't really bother me for longer than a second and a half. I don't try to examine the reason for the attitude, it's just how kids are.
There isn't one universal reason, like, "they're jealous" or "because ddr looks stupid", kids (kids like that anyway) just act that way. |

Hey, at least seeing a DDRFreak is better than seeing a Yu-gi-oh! person, a pokemon person or a star trek nerd.
Get used to it, some ppl don't care what others think.
Like I said, they're jealous!! _________________

The thing is... sure they're making fun of us because we look dumb, but do they realize that when they get up on the pad and jump around to mock us that they look dumber thanwe do?
Wanna hear a story? Go to page 50 of "ther's no one in minnesota except me" in the midwest forum, and look for my really long post. I really dont feel like typing all that again and I'm too lazy to link it. If you do Mike is one of my freinds that plays, and Pete is one of the arcade employees. _________________

Thats normally when I go stick someone in the mouth or something. Only time I got ridiculed and said nothing about it was at TacoBell at 4am playing on my laptop w/usb adapter when some rednecks were in a car saying poopy through an intercom.
Now when im at the movies and some preppy doggy says poopy or I hear people laughing AT me not like giggling in awe or somethign there is a distinct difference. I will walk to the guy and i will tell him he needs to teach his doggy some mother frick manners and if he has poopy to say we can take it outside. |

Ive actually never had this problem. In fact, Ive never been mocked for anything that Ive liked doing...
And a lot a people on here are saying "people make fun of us because we look dumb playing DDR, and we do". I disagree. The first time I was exposed to DDR I saw a guy AA LoM and just seeing that guy moving his legs that fast made me positive that DDR was something I wanted to be a part of. Now, the only things my peers ever say to me when playing is "How does he do that?" or the ever-popular "My brain cant even interpret anything on that screen."
If I were seeing someone making fun of me playing, I would just straight up laugh. What could they be making fun of? The fact that I have better coordination than they do? Or maybe its girly. I mean, I could see how stepping on pannels is obviously feminine. (sarcasm) |

i think a lot of the hate is that dancing is one of those self-revealing activities (like singing) that guys are just afraid to do. to justify this fear they scoff it, calling it sissy, girly or gay to distance themselves from it. also, a lot of girls (especially the preppy ones) dislike video games. so in a way ddr is the worst of both worlds, from the perspective of a closed mind. |

Usually it's unpopular here because of the smell and perspiration side effect.
But hey, there could be preppies that play.

Tricks to make them stop :
1- Become a combat expert... if he pushes you off the pad, beat the crap out of him
2- Pay them a game and laugh at them failing butterfly on beginner ^^ (I know it's evil.....but revenge is so sweet ^^), maybe he'll just STFU (it worked one time)
3- Have big muscles.... they'll fear you ^^ (works for me ^^( just kidding)) _________________

Clearly it's because superior DDR skill has a direct correlation with superior performance in the bedroom. I mean, think about it, it improves leg strength and stamina, both of which are important in sexual activities....
They're just jealous of our mad lovemakin' skillz. |
