I love being in the arcade...we usually have a group of around 15 friends and we have a lot of fun...however ever since I got a cobalt flux with a Trio Lonker adapter I prefer stepmania way more than the arcade E10.gif

Home pad wins every time for me. Every arcade in Southern California either has a DDR with a broken left or down arrow. At home my metal pad also has the arrows spaced out abou an inch farther from the center, so when I go from home to the arcade it gets me messed up. I also like home playing because I keep my pad centered at the tv and you can't do that at an arcade.

I own a TX6000 and have Stepmania with all songs from Mixes 1-8 plus extras from Bemanistyle. All in all, being able to play that many songs and to play in socks without crippling my feet means I prefer home. It wasn't the easiest descision though, because I love the arcade experience and I still have a small glimmer of hope that I'll meet another DDR player in my area.

Wow alot of people prefer the arcade....I'd take a soft pad any day......sure the buttons are smaller but I get around the pad easier and I can actually hold freeze arrows, unlike all the of the nearby cabinets. I absolutly cannot keep my balance whatsoever on metal and I have to balance on the bar to stay up....which people hate........so I prefer home because of Stepmania and Ultramixes! Go Xbox DDR! biggrin.gif

I definatly prefer the arcade but the thing i like about home is that you same a whole crapload of money. Plus i think its easier at home than the arcade so i test and see if im really as good as i think i am. But either way as long as i get to play, im happy.

In my opinion I think the more skilled you are with DDR the harder it is to use the home pads. I've always found that its alot easier to pass 8-10 footers on the hard "arcade style" pads.

When I play songs like Candy(star) and Healing Vision AM at the arcade I can get A's no poblem. But when I play at home with my Konami softpad, I can't ever step in the right place, and I always misstep.
So I guess if you have a hard pad, then that might help, but playnig in the arcades just has a dfferent feel then playing at home.

To be honest, when I'm home I usually just play with a controller riiight.gif

I like to play at the arcade but play at home if I have to. Some of you guys that play on Ignition pads should really play at arcades more. When I switched from Ignition pags to arcade, I was bad because double-stepping is harder on arcades and you have to learn to crossover. There is no better cure of double-stepping than playing in arcades.

Home version's timing window is bigger, the pad is easier, and it's overall stupid. Where's the crowd?

Arcade version always wins.

1. You can change that in the options menu
2. The pads, though some have larger sensors than others, don't make gameplay much easier in certain cases, in other cases, it is more your skills IMO.
3. Opinion noted... though I must ask what is stupid about it?
4. No crowd... unless you are playing at a party... but having the crowd is good or bad depending on certain factors, like your game paying skills, aving an on/off day, jerks in the crowd... etc... etc. E13.gif

I like both the arcade, and home game play but seriosuly, I don't see how they can be compared given how much they can differ in various factors.... and many of the things that people complain about with the home version can be changed easily. Timing window too big or small? Options menu... music too soft/too loud? options menu.... or volume control on your remote... pad too big/too small? a different pad might suit you better... no bar? A little elbow grease and a char can come in handy... etc.. etc...

I think arcade and home are both good in their own ways, but they differ too much for me to say which one is beeter.

I like a lot of what ^ that guy said.

I prefer to play in the arcade, even if my scores are lower because of the timing window and the pads at my arcade being royally destroyed, and it being in the heart of Steelers fans..and I like wearing my Browns jersey when I play (I know, I know. They suck) I end up with a lot jerks in the crowd. But the loud noises and the feel of playing there on the big metal pads is better than it is at home. Don't get me wrong of course, home has it's advantages, like being free to play, after I plunk down 30-40$ for the game..of course, it's annyoing that my pad moves everywher on my stupid carpet.

Chair-bars ftw.

I like the arcade because...

1. You can hear the beat of your feet.
2. The pad doesn't slip.
3. You can stomp as hard as you want, with shoes.
4. People watch me and say, "Major poopy that little short kid is good!"

I used to be the guy who abused the controller.

I moved up to soft pads until they kept getting destroyed.
Now soft pads are my bridge to a CF.

Arcade- the final step of the chain. Once here, your home whatever is only a tool. One tip though, play the arcades while they are new before a newbie comes and breaks the up button on light mode. ITG 2 has helped me see the light of this game so don't limit yourself.

Arcade is the best, home versions are just for practice.
The Arcade gives you a rush of adrenaline
with the roaring of the croud.
Better envirnment then your room.
