I have received the Kraft's 'Free' dance pad (had to pay $9.99 shipping) just to see if it works with Stepmania. It does, and it doesn't.
The pad itself is recognized as an USB Joystick. Thus, the arrows work, except the up+down and left+right combination. There is a solution to this. One way is to turn the pad into a diamond and play on the 'button' corners. THe other way is to rewire the control box so that the buttons are connected to the joystick arrows, and the joystick arrows are connected to the buttons on the circuit board. When I opened up the control box, it was a plastic ribbon circuit connected to the control box. I am not sure how this is done.
For a free pad, I guess you should not expect much. And, it is pretty flimsy. I do not expect it to last long.

I just got one of these recently too just for kicks. I haven't really had a lot of time to work on it, but the outter contacts are start and select. If you want to switch the corner buttons in place of the arrows you just have to swap every other contact, excluding the outer ones.
The reason the pad doesn't work well is the axis setup. Up/dowh and left/right are on axis and you can only step on one of the pair. The corner buttons are regular buttons and can each be activated individually.
This is a bit of a pain. I wil post which contact goes to which button later, but the paper I wrote it on is in my dorm room at the moment. _________________
