Nowadays, he says "I missed!" when he sees his DDR video and got Great. He may try to get AAA. It's up to him.
I assume 'double stepping' is a step to back to center position then move. He does cross-overs but his leg is not enough long yet. So he does double step in some cases. |
I could definately see him AAA many songs, and it seems like he would easily be able to AAA light songs...
Double-stepping is when you you the same foot to hit 2 consecutive arrows, like using your right foot to hit up, right instead of using your left foot to hit up, and right foot to hit the right arrow. _________________

Does it mean use right and left foot to hit 2 consecutive arrows like '<-' & '<-'? If so, yes, he currently uses left foot twice in this case. I showed him by stepping left then right for the situation. But he didn't agree. He says "my way is much better".
I'll wait and see for next opportunity. |

No - it's more like this...
Consider this step pattern:
...
...........
...
If you double-stepped it, you'd do something like this:
L
... R
........... R
... L
L
But if you did a crossover, it would go like this:
L
... R
........... L
... R
L
Crossovers are the best way to do steps like those. When mastered, they're easier to do than double stepping. _________________

Passing max 300 heavy by 6 years old!! Amazing!! Metal pad with a bar is reasonable but 6 year-old kid can do it?? Just amazing!!
Why don't you upload the video? It should be very interesting! |

double stepping isn't as bad as it seems, I hate crossovers so I find myself double stepping instead of crossovers alot. I really don't feel like double stepping is holding me back very much, I have passed like every song in the game execpt for LoM, PS, PSM, and PSMO. and I have also full combo'd HVAM while double stepping the whole thing. but crossovers will porbably help him out a bit more. but I will go now and watch his new video.

Let's also not forget that he's five years old, and quite small. He might be double-stepping out of necessity because he's so small (Heck, I'm 22, and I can't even cross over very well at fast tempos). Crossovers are a useful skill if you can do them (I hate spinning and likewise double-step HVAM), but I wouldn't actually worry too much about it on Standard. |

I read a thread about double-stepping and crossovers.
I taught Ryota about crossovers using AA Bob's chart. It was very helpful. He tyied both double-stepping and crossovers to see which is better. I'll be watching him and advise which is better per each cases. |

Just I uploaded his new video.
http://tzwada.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/2006/02/ryotas_move_6_l.html
But this is taped before we met. After that, he started to play new songs. I'm telling the songs you gave me the list and about double-stepping vs crossovers. I have no doubt he'll show me his progress soon. |

Thanks! I recall his first play was some around when I became 4. So, it's been 1 year and 1-2 months.
He never score AAA, so far. |
