The first time I played (or attempted DDR) was 2 years ago during the summer... there is this summer computer camp I go to, and unoficially now work at, and there was this camper a year younger than me who always brought in DDRMAX, DDRMAX2, DDR EXTREME, two of those soft pads (w/ foam inserts) and his Playstation 2. I tried a song on light mode, did horribly and failed. It was the next summer (last sumer) I would discover Burnign Heat! (3 Option Mix), Tsugaru, Break Down! and the other DDRMAX/2 songs that got me playing the game. I spend hours playing the game that summer on light mode until I could A most of the light mode songs.
From there, that August saw my purchasing DDR:ULTRAMIX for the Xbox (since my brother traded his Playstation 2 for it ) + 2 cheap soft pads (since on of my camp friends played against me at DDR, and we would be vurses each other once more later) and began playing hoping to get really good... one of the pads from that voyage into DDR-dom I still used today (duct taped to 2 sets of foam inserts from dead RedOctane knockoffs) as I pound away at Tsugaru, Matsuri Japan, Burning Heat! (3 Option Mix), and other heavy songs. |

I have now gotten several others started on it. about ten people so far LOL
I am not the best at it but hey I am almost 51 so i dont excatly move as fast as you young spring chickens _________________

I was in a very "rhythmy-gamey" mood, and was having fun setting records and the like for Donkey Konga and Daigasso Band Brothers. Then I saw that Dancing Stage: Mario Mix had been released, and so I decided to buy it. I became good at it pretty quickly and had done everything the game had to offer within a couple of weeks. Having found it so enjoyable, I decided I needed more. The only option was to buy a PS2 or Xbox just for the Dancing Stage games on the consoles. I opted for an Xbox and the 2 Unleashed games.
And I've been obsessed to this day! _________________

- When did you first start playing DDR? (and how long have you been playing)
- What got you to start playing? (initial interest)
- What made you keep playing? (why do you like playing currently)
More questions might be added as necessary to what sort of threads arise. This will do for now. So let's hear your tale about your first time! |
Well, once my friend borrowed DDR Disney Mix from his friend. I played it with the controller, not knowing it was a dancing game. Then I remembered "that dancing game I saw that time" and realized they were the same game. Then I decided that I wanted it. I asked for one for my birthday and got it. DDRMAX. I loved it. Then I got DDR Extreme and then DDRMAX 2 then got rid of DDRMAX 2 so I could buy WarioWare Touched! then I got DDR Konamix then I got DDR Extreme 2 then I got DDRMAX 2 again. And in the process I went through 4 dance pads. I also play DDR Extreme at the arcade alot. |

Well I first started when my brother bought DDR, just to buy it. I don't think he had any intention on playing it. Well we all tried, failed miserably but i wanted to show everyone that i could master it.
So i praticed, even though being overweight kinda got me thinking I should stop and leave it for the people who are fit. But after a while i got really good and me and my brother would play (me on the pad and him using the controller...lol)
After getting my friends into it they really enjoyed it, except some who thought they would look really stupid. But i thought of it as really fun and it's like the only exercise i do!

We were at Walt Disney World in Innoventions in Epcot in May '05 when my sis found the game. She is a much better dancer than me so she went up to try Disney's Rave....and FAILED!! I was astounded, but since she failed I said what the heck and tried it. I ACED it and got really excited. I was good(well ok) at it. So when vacation was over we got our own pad and games and now I'm ok in Standard mode and DDR is wondeful!!!

Kept watching the DDR phenomenon grow and grow, and began to consider trying it when I saw UM1 come out for the Xbox. However, it was until I made a New Year's resolution to lose weight that I took the plunge, since I knew I had to exercise and in general I find exercise tedious. Got UM2 and a couple of pads and got hooked. I'm not good at all (Standard songs make me cry) but I can easily spend two or three hours dancing and getting a good workout at the same time. _________________

I started playing about 4 years ago. I've just started to get goot at Pump It Up at the arcade when I figured, "So this is what DDR is like?" One day I had a dream about DDR and proceeded to get up, get dressed and buy DDRMax and a pad. However, it was only about a year ago that I started to play DDR seriously (I'd used to play it heavily only when a new mix came out before that) to practice for ITG at the arcade. No wait, I have that backwards...I play ITG at the arcade to practice for DDR at home. Strange, but true. _________________

At first, i hated this game. when i first tried it i wasn't very excited because it was a slow song. When i saw people do fast songs, i said i would give it a shot. so i tried and then i got addicted to it. I LOVE DDR!!!! _________________

While before when I went to the arcades I used to look at the game and think wtf is that? until one day a friend of mine who really is into ddr made me try it out. So I did. In seconds i was addicteddd. We stayed at the arcades for almost 3 hours playing ddr. Sure I sucked at the time but that didnt matter all i got into was the music and how much fun it is..
So yeah go DDR.. _________________

The first time I encountered DDR was about 6 years ago in 6th grade when Ryan J Gierlach (God rest his soul) introduced it to me and a friend, but because he lived in a trailer I didnt feel like dancing (whole house shook).
Now I recently started playing when my little sister got DDR Extreme 2 for christmas. I did some research and found DDR is a good weightloss tool and well im not gonna deny it Im an obese mofo, but im doing something about it now. So I got into DDR to lose weight, started a month ago around 310 and now im down to about 290.
In this time Ive gone onto inspire about 6 people to buy the game, and about a dozen to play with me ... so now I go to arcades and such on weekends to "show off" which im really not doing anything special but hey most people call DDR geeky, I got a chicks number for it today, and she wants me to teach her how to play -- that my friends is a definite AAA.
Started on Beginner, 1 day later was on light, 1 week later was on standard, 1 week after that I began heavy -- now i can do heavy, but my stamina gets drained way too quick when its constant 1/16th beats (like I think its in as the rush comes). |
