|
|
Hey all,
About two months ago, I started an exercise plan based off of DDR. I play on heavy mode for about 30-50 minutes a day. So far, I've lost about 9 or so pounds. I've been blogging my progress at DDR-Diet.com. I'm also trying to add tips and stuff for others trying the ddr diet.
Anyway, I was just trying to get a feel of how successful your DDR weight loss programs have worked. I've read somewhere that people have lost like 100 pounds on DDR (although they were probably morbidly obese). I dunno how factual these claims are though... I'm just trying to lose 15 pounds, and I'm already more than halfway. _________________

Yes, I know this is the DDR forum, but seriously, ITG is probably better for a workout. I would say an hour a day.
I don't play DDR/ITG for a workout, but for example I played 2 hours of ITG on my CF, basically 9s and 10s with a 30-second or so break inbetween, and I wasn't tired. Playing until you seem tired is good because it builds endurance and it's not like a chore, you're having fun.
At age 13/14, over one year, 150-160 lbs, I (probably) lost... 10-30 pounds of fat and gained some muscle. I didn't change my eating habits whatsoever, and personally don't think my fitness will become much better than it has. _________________

When I first started DDRing I lost 30 lbs in 3 months. That was also with monitoring my diet. Since last year I've lose about 40 lbs, but gained some muscle since I've lose about 6-7 inches off my waist (I used to be a 36 now I'm a 30, 28 if I really suck it in)
Check out getupmove.com for some weight loss testimonials. It's a website dedicated to using DDR to lose weight. Check out the forums too, it's a good community. _________________

Yeah, it's an awesome workout, and it builds your leg muscles up, a lot(especailly playing heavy). _________________

I only lost about 90 lbs, though.
Here some good tips:
Play consistantly - If you can play 5 or 6 days a week, do so.
Don't over do it - If you play so hard on Monday that you're too sore Tuesday you've lost a day of good excersize.
Stop Drinking Sodas - You'd be amazed how much this helps, you'd also be amazed how much you don't miss them.
Learn to freestyle - Get your arms moving, even just a little, and you'll get more out of each workout. |
Wow, if I lost 90 lbs that would be half of my body weight! I am trying to play consistently. Actually, I've been playing everyday for some time now. The blog really helps me to stay focused. I've also cut down on the sodas too. I dunno about the freestyling though... _________________

I definitly use DDR as exercise, but I haven't really thought about using a blog.
Probably wouldn't keep up with it. _________________

I have lost 80 pounds since I started playing. 60, in the last 11 weeks. It all depends how motivated you are to eat healthier and dance every day, even if you don't feel like it. _________________

Yeah, I think that's the problem with most diet/exercise routines is people don't want to follow through with it. So far I've been playing pretty much everyday, so we'll see how it goes. I've sort of stopped losing weight, so maybe I'm gaining muscle? I dunno how I would check though. _________________

I disagree, when your muscles are sore they are rebuilding.
My cross coach who has been coaching for 40 years and is in the michigan hall of fame.
He told me that.
Just do a slightly lighter workout on Tuesday, but stretch well. |

I stll remember the time when I played DDR Extreme on Gradnite 05 and the next day, I literally lost 5 lbs (from 245 lbs to 240 lbs)-- overnight!
That night of June 23, 2005, I ate:
A plateful of rice and 2 pieces of fried chicken
1 soda and fries
1 Mocha latte (sp?)
...before playing. _________________
BeForU was easily the heart and soul of DDR, until someone in Konami thought that it's a threat to the current structure (read: Konami's blatant overfunding of IIDX/pop'n). |

I started on one about mid December on one basic principle: to use more calories than I gain. I hate watching carbs and not eating certain foods so I just used a bit of science.
So far I'm down about 8 pounds (and a pant size!), but that's only with moderate DDR/ITG play so if I really start kicking things up a bit I bet I could drop like crazy. _________________

Yes do endless mode on standard and turn the break stage off, go for as long as you can. This way you can also sort of keep track of how well your stamina increases because of the song counter. Keep trying to pass more songs in a row than the last endless you played. I did this quite a bit and my stamina is much better than it was (a.k.a. I can pass Paranoia Survivor or Max 300 on a good day). _________________

If you get too tired too quickly, just do Standard for a while. I think it's more important that you exercise for a given amount of time, rather than doing it intensely for a few minutes. It took me a while before I could play Heavy songs for 45 minutes at a time. _________________

Quote: | I'm using DDR to lose some body fat, but I've heard you need to lift weights or do something else in addition to DDR, or else you'll be burning muscle instead of fat. Is this true?
Danceatron, when you said to rule out sodas, does that include Diet Pepsi (1 calorie, 30 mg sodium ftw)? I drink that all the time. |
Doing only DDR won't "burn" muscle, if anything it wil build up more muscle fiber, but it is a good idea to incorporate weight lifting for a more complete workout if you're using DDR for exersice.
It would be a good idea to even cut out diet soda, which if you drink it all the time with all that sodium which makes you retain water and over time decreases your body's ability to absorb calcium=lower bone density. But don't despair, I've descovered Diet Rite which has 0 calories, 0 sugar and 0 sodium! _________________
