Allright, so i got a redoctane 3.0 for christmas. then it stopped working so i returned it and got a new one. Now that one doesn't work so im returning it and getting a bunch of anime dvds at best buy. but i want another dance pad. I would like one under $70(i.e: no metals) so probably a decent ignition dance pad, but i have no idea what brand. I have a crazy offbrand one my mom got me a while ago on ebay that suprinsingly works well(the only modifications i had to make were taping the cord and a PS2-XBOX adapter when i had xbox ddr because the xbox port didnt work) but i dont want to take the ebay risk. So that where you guys come in. Where's a site i can get a decent dance pad that will assure me it will work? This holiday season i plan to get a metal, probably a RedOctane Afterburner, so I just want an extra one to last me a solid year.

the problem with the redoctane is that the up arrow works about 50% of the time....something heavy ddrers cant deal with. So, i kinda want a new one for my friends...they get pissed playing 1 pad altranate. haha.

So yeah, tell me a decent ignition pad thats cheap!

I have had this for a year now, it still works but now I got a metal one. I recommend this one greatly.

Q about ignitions... Do they slip around when you play on carpet? Just looks like they would, never played on one. Might get one someday...

there are a number of pads similar to this and they are all of similar quality. i would recommend getting a layer of plastic that you can put on top of it, maybe wrap around it, because while the foam helps to cushion your feet, it at least for me seems to put all the force into the vinyl layer on top and tear it up. so if you can protect that top layer, you should be set.

i got mine off ebay for $20. if you buy more expensive ones at stores, you get the benefit of a warrunty.

I'm relatively new to DDR as well, and also looking for a pad reccomendation. My best friend got me into it via his PS2, and I've very recently become an Ultramix3 owner. Right now I have one Pelican universal dance pad, and it works pretty well, but I'll be asking for a nicer one for my birthday or Christmas... I was looking at this one a bit: http://www.ddrstation.com/neinstdadare1.html
My price range is probably around $50. Anybody used this pad or a quality soft pad or relatively inexpensive foam pad that they'd reccomend to somebody who's starting out and not quite serious enough to go for a metal one or an RO Ignition? Any help is appreciated! biggrin.gif

In The Groove Official Dance Pad is the best! Buy this pad and modify it.

Exactly! You read my mind.laugh.gif

XMaxX from another post wrote:
Try the Official In The Groove pad ($29.99) (for a cheap pad, it works well; after modding it). Get a piece of wood (Preferably 36" X 36") and some cardboard pieces (size of the arrows). Place the cardboard pieces under where the arrows should be to raise the arrows up a little bit*. Once in place, then tape it to the wood. Then align your pad on top of the cardboard & wood and tape it all together. It's called modding a softpad so that it doesn't suck. This is how I modded mine, and I never had a single problem (4 months playing on it so far).

*Helps you recognize where you are stepping*

hmm....bottom poster is my friend. I actually decided instead of getting ignitions to modify a soft pad for cheap and my original plan was to take 2 pieces of wood and put the dance pad between them and cut holes were the arrows are, yet your idea seems cheaper and simpler. I probably will to it, only cover it with some sort of plastic wrap type thing(like the soft pad mod on this site from the ddr freak people).....because i want this bad boy to last.

And i'm not new to ddr....ive been playing for nearly 2 years now, and i can proudly say that i can A-AA 8-9 footers(and sakura). The only thing is, i got that ignition about a year ago, so i never bothered with this "modding" business. And now i realize the great money i can save with modding. THANKS DDR FREAK!!
