I cut along the edge of the pad along the seem where the top layer of the pad meets the black liner. You'll also have to (carefully) cut through the layer of foam and plastic layer for the sensors. _________________

what can i say about my relationship with the 3.0? It's been horrible. I got one for christmas and the down arrow wouldnt work when combod with any other arrow so i took it back(i got mine at best buy, my dad said they had plenty in stock) and got another. This time, the Up only works about 50% of the time. So i've given up on the 3.0 and im taking it back and getting more anime DVDs and some games!! HORRAY!! then i'll probably get another off-brand ignition off ebay, because i got one that works and feels better than any redoctane ive ever used. |

And I notice the old 2002 Ignition 2.0 still works, mainly because the entire thing has foam padding in it. Now what I'm thinking is to use the old foam padding from my busted up 2002 BNSUSA pad for the Ignition 3.0 instead. Will I have problems if I try this? |
Please, answer this. Just need to know if the quality of the foam padding on the 2002 BNSUSA pad is the same as the Red Octane 2.0 foam padding, cause I'm thinking of using that for the foam padding on the Red Octane 3.0. _________________

IMO, its not the foam that causes the problems, its the plastic inserts. The plastic inserts in an older 2.0 version (which were sold in early 2005, before the 3.0's came out) are harder, and more inflexible. However, the plastic inserts in the newer 2.0's and 3.0's are flimsy, and cheaper. It also doesn't help the fact that the pad itself is bigger, and causes it to be slightly puffy and not as tight as the older 2.0's.
The main differences in the old 2.0's and the new 3.0's and 2.0s are the zippers. Older ones have only 1 zipper, newer have 2. There are also some slight differences in the little plastic black box at the front of the pad, but I'll post pics and stuff later.
I seriously cannot wait until my CF is built and shipped, I played on my 3.0 tonight and I failed so many songs just due to the fact there were so many missteps and arrows just not responding at all.
The moral, get an old 2.0 if you can, or just someone else's brand. RO has cut back on quality to save a few bucks, and went from one of the best soft pads you could buy, the one of the worst. _________________

Thanks for the sugestion. I didn't know some of the 2.0s also have this problem. Those are the ones with the XBox cord, right?
And speaking of the XBox, I may have to use this as an XBox pad for now, since I'm having no problems with it playing Ultramix 3.
Now I might concider Metal Pads, since my 3 year old Ignition 2.0 is ghosting the right arrow randomly, but not much. Are the cheap knockoff with the XBox/PS2 cable actually as good? Last time I bought one, it didn't last 2 months. _________________

I've duct-taped my pads, but it seemed a bit excessive to put that X-shape. I only put one layer on the "underside".
It also felt like the foam got some weight because of the duct-tape.
I also noticed the foam felt a bit flimsier. MAYBE the jigsaw slots weren't being slipped out as easily as I thought on the 3.0 but I did notice that the slots were not protruding as far as on a 2.0. |

Heh, 1st post .
Anyways, I took the plunge and bought my Ignition 3.0 about a week ago from Best Buy (the box was the newer red-style) and so far the pad has been amazing. I've only been playing DDR since Christmas, but I am able to go through all 6 and 7 footers on Max and Extreme, along with a few lower heavy songs. I thought I'd point out a few distinctions my pad seems to have had from others:
- It doesn't move whatsoever: I've played Healing Vision (AM) and Max 300 on Standard and this pad sticks to my carpet like you wouldn't believe.
- Accuracy: This is the thing I was worried about most when I bought my pad, but so far I've had no ghosting and no misfiring at all. Also, my PA instantly improved when I started using this pad.
- Foam insert: While mine is similar to others in that it doesn't fit completely snug inside the pad, the insert so far has felt like a rock. It hasn't bent in any way and really feels terrific to play on.
I know my Ignition is still very new and there is always a chance it could screw up, but I've heard of others failing on the first day of use. I don't know if I was lucky and got a Ignition that lives up to its price tag, but this pad has been everything I imagined.
I figured I'd post this just to show that there are Ignitions out there that can get the job done. _________________

FINALLY.
A good review.
Mine (old 3.0's) worked fine for a month or two then died.
But whatever, I might just have to get two new Red Boxes as my replacements. _________________

I currently have a "red-box" 3.0 that works like a charm. Maybe I'm lucky as Catch22 stated, but hey, I'll take it. However, I plan to save up my work funds from my first ever job (turning 14 on the 30th this month) this summer to buy at least on CF (hopefully two). _________________

Has anybody succesfully hooked up two for vs mode in StepMania?
I can't select versus mode, yet they both work fine individually. |

Yeah, they both work. I have them both plugged in and mapped out correctly. I can even actually use them both in single player mode at the same time (pressing left on either of them corresponds to a left on screen).
I just can't get SM to go into versus mode. |

Well, I know I'm still playing easy stuff, but as I keep improving I'll be sure to update you guys on the Ignition's performance. Today I unlocked a bunch of the songs on Extreme that are Oni/Challenge remixes, and I passed every single one. The pad was working like a charm.
I can't believe how much I've already improved since I bought the pad. That really is the most important thing to me. Later everyone.

I bought my Ignition 3.0 a month or two ago from Best Buy, and it's worked like a dream on both my PS2 and PC (I don't have any Xbox DDR games). No misfires, nor ghosting. I've been playing DDR in general since February of last year, and this thing gets abused by 8s, 9s and the occasional 10. No problems at all so far.
My only complaint is that it still moves a bit, though it's better than my konami softpad, which moved across the floor when I did Breakdown! on heavy. At least this one stays more or less in the same place. |

Any ideas why I can't get into versus mode in StepMania when both my pads are connected?
Also, where does the pad show up in Device Manager? Mine says RedOctane Gamepad connected when I first plug it in, but then it changes to USB interface device in Device Manager. |

They both work fine (when plugged in together or separately). They both work at the same time too. If I go into map them when they are plugged in together, the arrows map at different number.
An example:
Pad 1 left arrow maps as Key 11
Pad 2 left arrow maps as Key 21
However, if I try to play, I can't select versus mode. If I choose single player, then I can use either pad (even at the same time). Hitting the up arrow on either pad will correspond to up on the screen.
Any ideas?
Also, what should it show up as in Device Manager? Can somebody post a screenshot?
Thanks. |
