The guy either is really bad at DDR or has never played it. When you see good players go on heavy or freestyle it's fun. I've gone to arcades and attracted crowds and have had people ask to play with me,lol. I think it makes the game experience a lot more fun. |

People, don't give this dude attention. Yea of course DDR is gonna take criticism from something/someone just like anything else. That's his opinion of the game. You don't have to flood his page with backlashing comments cause that's probably what he wants. He's just doing a pointless rant. Hearing that he's from Gamepro, he probably isn't afraid of DDR, just exercise; another fat nerd in a cheeto-stained shirt living in his mom's basement. _________________

Here's what I said:
Quote: | Apparently - you seem to know nothing about the arcade industry and how the market works.
It has always been the Japanese gaming companies that import what people consider to be the "best action games" - Capcom (Street Fighter series), SNK Playmore (Darkstalkers, Final Fight), Konami (Contra, Gradius), Namco (Soul Calibur, Tekken) and Sega (Virtua Fighter). Rarely will an American company come in and take a stake at having a good game - Midway is an example of this. Mortal Kombat did very well.
Too bad you also lost when you stated that the arcade isn't about "family friendly fun". Incorrect. The arcade has always been about kids and will remain so. Hence why arcades have always had what they like to call "Redemption Counters". You know, the place where they give away the little prizes for tickets?
Sure, a lot of the games weren't like that but arcades always made a point in having a section of "family friendly" games. That still holds true today.
And don't give me this crap about how Konami's brand of music games (also known as BEMANI) ruined the arcade. If anything, the lack of innovation and the allure of the home market for consumers is what killed the luster of the arcade for many people. Arcades lots their shine the second the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis hit the market. That's the exact time the popularity of the arcade declined rapidly. Because suddenly, instead of having to go to the local mall or wherever to pump quarters into a machine, all you had to do was sit down in front of your television set and pop in your favorite arcade game and you were good to go.
The ads for the systems even talked about "All your arcade favorites here on the [insert console name here]!"
If the BEMANI line of video games did anything, it saved arcades from dying off completely. Arcade Game ports of fighting games like Tekken and other games like Time Crisis are 99% of the time perfect ports of their arcade counterparts, you can even buy arcade style joysticks. The BEMANI games however, Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania and the others - are never complete ports of the arcade version. You cannot replicate the arcade experience of playing DDR at home short of buying a machine. It is innovative - it makes you do something different for a change. Same for all the BEMANI games (Beatmania, Pop'n Music, Guitar Freaks, Drum Mania and the rest) - they all make you do something that is different from the norm in the arcades.
Now, people may say that you're hating on these games because you tried them and sucked at them (which is usually the case) - but a lot of people don't like the music or they just don't like the idea behind the game. And that's fine, you don't like it.
But you should give Konami their credit. They did not kill the arcade - they saved it. You're just upset that they saved it with a game that is so radically different from what you perceive as a "perfect arcade game".

Thats a booyah good sir.
Gamepro really is crap now, I can't stand it anymore. All they do is hype up the crappiest games and don't even give the good ones a second glance. They called Disgaea something like, "just a Final Fantasy Tactics clone".
In one of their articles for DDR (I think it was Extreme 2) they were complaining that "most of the songs are recycled." Obviously these guys don't know a damn thing about DDR, because recycling songs? Thats half the point of the song list, bringing back the GOOD songs people like so they can play on them again. Granted yes people want new songs, but its not like Ex2 had a bad songlist, they put in some damn good songs.
Gamepro needs to get their heads outta there asses and take an UNbiased view on games. Plus this guy seems like a jackass. _________________

If it wasn't for DDR, most arcades would've went out of business a long time ago, but that doesn't mean fighting and shooting games don't belong in arcades. They are supposed to have variety, and it just so happens that DDR is bringing in the dough. _________________

There's this one guy that hates the DDR machine in our arcade (and he works for the arcade) just because a stench (which I have yet to discover) has driven away table tennis players. But hey, it has brought quite a bit of business to the place, so why complain? |
