Well, it seems like there are NO good pads out there. Nothing that will last that won't cost you a ridiculous amount of money (150 - 300 dollars). I feel I have looked at everything out there. I was going to get an ignition 3.0 but it seems even an 80 dollar soft pad is crap. frown.gif

What I want to do is just a get a soft pad that will work well when I mod it with the wood and hardwood floor covering.

Well i think the ignition pad is the best softpad out there, and mine lasted a long time(almost 2 years) before it started to break down.

Just read the Ignition 3.0 thread. Everyone is calling it crap. Otherwise, I would have bought one but it seems you may only have a 1 in 10 chance of getting one that will work for more than 2 weeks.

I have a 2.0 RO ignition and it has been fine for about 2 years as well, it's actually my 2nd one, the first was messed up, but was exchanged without hassle at a gamestop. I understand your frustration though, good pads can be pricey and there is no guarantee.

BNS makes a good ignition pad that is way cheaper than the RO's, so does mymybox. Both have their pros and cons. Look for one with a good return policy. Most people only post the bad stuff, unless it's a flux it appears. But not all pads are total crap, and alot of people might just be getting a few bum pads.

Or you could just save up for a CF, but some people have even had trouble with those. Unfortunatly, no pad is perfect, and currently their doesn't seem to be a consistant, affordable solution. I wish Konami would step in and manufacture decent pads that you could actually find and purchase seperatly and not in a bundle. Til then, we are all stuck with 3rd parties.

Get a tx 4000, if you cant afford for cf. It costs only 99$ on lik-sang and it is much better than old tx1000/tx2000 models.

The TX-4000 is the very pad I am looking at now. Thank you for confirming my 'good feeling' about this pad. BTW - is this a metal pad or a "hard" pad? (I think there is a difference?)

EDIT: Shipping from lilk-sang is $121 at the cheapest rate... No thanks. I can get it elsewhere for like $50 shipping.

Try the Official In The Groove pad ($29.99) (for a cheap pad, it works well; after modding it). Get a piece of wood (Preferably 36" X 36") and some cardboard pieces (size of the arrows). Place the cardboard pieces under where the arrows should be to raise the arrows up a little bit*. Once in place, then tape it to the wood. Then align your pad on top of the cardboard & wood and tape it all together. It's called modding a softpad so that it doesn't suck. This is how I modded mine, and I never had a single problem (4 months playing on it so far).

*Helps you recognize where you are stepping*

Did this help answer your question?

Yes that was very helpful actually. Perhaps I'll get 2 in the groove pads and mod them and see how they last before putting more money into a game I've never played. I'm gonna use Step Mania so I'll have to get a converter.... Is the ITG pad any different? Will it work ok for StepMania with a converter do you think?

I got a LevelSix softpad for like $45, and it worked like a charm even without any modding at all. Withstood constant 9s for about 2-3 months, so as long as you're doing less than that, it should be fine. (It still works, but I can expect it to give some pad misses, but especially spurious mine hits because of sticking.)

The ITG pad isn't any differnet from any other dance pad, you can still play DDR with the ITG pad and vice versa.

The ITG pad works great with Stepmania, pretty much like any other pad; though the performance of the pad depends on the converter you buy (meaning some converters won't let you hit more than 2 arrows at once, etc...)(even some converters are not dance pad compatible). If you wan't any pad to work perfectly/errorless with stepmania, you should check out the PS2/USB converter page on the stepmania website.
