Anyone have any advice on the best way to keep these pads together for doubles play?
Or is my duct tape the only way to go?

I use velcro strips. Long strip of the soft, fuzzy stuff runs down the bottom of each pad on the edge next to the other pad, then three strips of the rough hooked side (without removing the backing) underneath those, across the gap, top, middle, and bottom. Works pretty well for me, and lets me take the pads back apart without leaving tape residue. Industrial strength/size Velcro is best for actually attaching to the pads so you're less likely to pull it off when trying to remove the connecting straps.

This works like a charm. Fixed my stuck buttons after the pad broke into the new flat position. I ran two overlapping widths of duct tape over every seam, front and back. Thanks!

I just got my Ignition 3.0 on Thursday and I love it. It works great on all the systems. However, after about a day and a half of play, I started to get unresponsive arrows (particularly the up arrow) and the occasional misfire. I opened the pad up and checked it out, and it seemed that the foam panels caused the misfires. They weren't completely flat and would shift up and down. I thought for a moment and came up with this:

Top of the foam:

Bottom of the foam:

(Yes, it's rather crudely taped, but it works perfectly now)

I duct-taped every seam on the top and sides of the foam, and to keep it from curving, I taped an asterisk * shaped star across all the panels on the bottom. The foam is pretty much one solid piece now, and it doesn’t shift or flex. I Popped it back in and zipped it up, and ever since, it has worked perfectly. I haven't had any problems with misfires or unresponsive arrows. The duct tape has been on there for a few days now and is still working great. The tape can come off without damaging the foam, so it can still be taken apart.

Before you return your Ignition 3.0 for good, try this. It just might work for you too.

I duct taped the foam up really nice, but I still get the glitchy up and down arrows going off when I stand in the middle of the pad.
It's not a big deal when I'm doing a song, because you don't ever step on the middle, but it's annoying to have to step off the pad to select your options.
I'm just confused about what would be causing the up and down arrows to trigger when I'm standing in the center. It's weird is all.

Yeah, that's what it is.
I'll leave it go until it starts to screw up my scores, then I guess I'll have to hack it up.

How much better is it than the 2.0?

Not at all to very little.

It all depends. If you just happen to have an older 2.0 (which would had to have been made before the RO 3.0 came out), then its 100% better. The older versions of the 2.0 seemed to have much harder plastic than the way they currently make them, thus making it much harder for it to bend and set off ghost steps and rapid fire.

I just put my 3.0 on top of my old 2.0. It provides extra support (I guess) and it makes it last at least a month now instead of a week.

I noticed in Best Buy the other day that some of their 3.0s have different packaging. The box was a reddish color instead of the usual blue. Any chance that they improved the quality of this model?

I noticed that too, I didn't buy one though.

I think they just re-packaged it to advertise ITG.

If I'm wrong...I'll definitely get one of 'em.

How exactly should one of the red octane ignition pads feel under your feet and does it take it a while to get broken in? Cause I went to bestbuy a couple days ago and bought a new camera and I saw the pad and was like cool $80 I should get one. But then I tried it and it felt as if it was a little unresponsive. Then again I can only play on standard mode maybe 5 or 6 footers and make B's, and I've never been to an acarde. So all I've ever been playing for about 4 months is the 4 PS2 versions, and ITG while using konami and gamestop softpads.

Yeah, that's normal for you, the GameStop pads are thinner and have less space between the sensors, so it feels harder to hit than you're used to.

Hm, Best Buy's special price on 3.0's is the same price I got it direct from RO (Otakon) for.

Anywho, my pad is sort of acting up (I already returned it once before). The Xbox connector every now and then decides it doesn't want to work, and acts accordingly (UM3 tells me to reconnect controller).

A quick Ignition 3.0 question, well somehow the left arrow is acting like the X/B button and automatically picks my songs. I suspect that the left side has an unpadded area in it, which could cause that side to bend a little. The foam on this thing doesn't cover the entire pad. And I notice the old 2002 Ignition 2.0 still works, mainly because the entire thing has foam padding in it. Now what I'm thinking is to use the old foam padding from my busted up 2002 BNSUSA pad for the Ignition 3.0 instead. Will I have problems if I try this?

I have a 3.0 and its been a shaky bridge up to here.
At first, the back button would seem stuck down, then misfire. This would happen occasionally at first, but then got pretty frequent. disgust.gif
I taped up the foam insert, then it worked great for a few songs.
Now it'll do it with the front, back, and right arrows. Is there anything I can do without voiding the warranty or should i just have RO fix it(under warranty)?

ps I am a fatty riiight.gif (if that matters in terms of pads)

Are the foam inserts in the 3.0 pads smaller/thinner than those in the 2.0s?

I have two 2.0 pads at the school I work at that I got Red Octane to donate for our kids. The foam in those pads fit in very snug, it was tough zipping up the pad because the foam was so big. I thought this was normal. It mades the surface of the pad nice and flat and tight.

Over the weekend I bought a 3.0 in the new flame packaging for myself because I liked the 2.0s. To my disappointment, the foam in this 3.0 easily fits inside the pad, there is about an inch or more of space on each side when the pad is zipped. It makes the pad feel very loose and puffy, like a standard Konami pad. I taped it like above to make the foam feel a bit more solid, but it hasn't helped with the overall size of the foam. I would have to wrap the foam like a mummy to get it to fit more tightly into the pad.

I'm thinking about returning it and getting something else, like a Blushark dense foam pad.

Yeah, I had the same thing happen to me when I bought my second 3.0, the foam was much easier to fit inside the pad. You can fix it by shoving something in to fill up the slack space. I'm currently using batteries E4.gif , D or C cell, i'm not sure which, but that keeps the foam centered in the middle of my pad and helped with my misfires.

went by Best Buy just now and there was one ignition pad left...but the box was open and kindof messed up, but the pad inside was in great condition. Basically someone had messed it up trying to open up the box and look at the pad. I asked if they'd let me buy it and give me a discount, and I got 20% off. Just a thought to try if you see one somewhere like that.

Gah, looks like I gotta do psisar's trick on opening it, but I'm still worried on how to open it (too bad theres no tutorials showing pic by pic what to do).

Left button won't respond once again, and it was doing fine for quiet some time with all the mats taped all up the buttocks. E2.gif

Blehhh... oh well, risk it I guess.
