I "grew up" playing DDR at our movie theater's 3rd Mix Korean Version 2. It was my favorite machine, and probably will be my favorite of all time. Out of nowhere I got really nostalgic today, because, lets face it, nowadays machines like that aren't exactly plentiful, and people can easily start their DDR History on Extreme machines, or any machine for that matter.
Haha. I miss all of the Korean songs, especially Gyoung-Go, that one was my favorite. I was always the one who wanted to play the Korean songs nobody else wanted to touch, like Rose or Beautiful 21C.
I'm not exactly old, but I still feel really old-school for having played on the machine. Does anyone else feel really old in DDR-land? _________________

I started out on 3rd mix myself and it was a great time, also walking into an arcade and playing on a deserted 5th mix machine and just enjoying it so much was awesome.....now, all I see is Extreme everywhere, so it is kind of a bummer.
I did get a chance to play 3rd mix again a few months ago and I was actually kind of bored with the songs, but only cuzI have played them a gazillion times (home version), etc......but the nostalgia factor was great. I often play older mixes at home to bring back memories..... I came to the conclusion, however, that having extreme wasn't as bad as I thought, but still, a new mix would help a great deal.
For me, days of being the "only one" knowing how to ddr at my local arcade are over but it was fun while it lasted. |

I started out, technically, on 5th mix, but then I took a break until Max2 came out and hen I went hardcore when Extreme came out. It's longer than a lot of people I know have been playing, but in the truly hardcore DDR community, I'm a whippersnapper _________________

Yes, people like us are a dying breed. I was the first person to start playing in one of the arcades I used to frequent. 3rd Mix Korean V2 was it. No speed mods, no 10s just WTFBBQ is this game.
It was a time a little over 4 years ago. I'd probably still have one of my old jobs if it weren't for DDR. Oh well!!!!!

I started back in 2001 after seeing some kids hop around on a 3rd Mix back on vacation in the Philippines in 2000. Played on a DDR USA and my first mix near and dear to my heart was a 3rdKv2. I remember when it was cool to figure out complex crossovers, and even though I speed mod more often than not I break out the 1x sometimes and play as if I never left it. |

Yeah, I remember back before when DDR used to only have 1 square to jump on. Those were the days, you young wippersnappers have no Idea what DDR used to be. I used to play drunk as all hell, till my feet would bleed into the electronics and disable the computer, now that is dedication. |

I'm just new school enough so that I don't know the old-schoolers' secret handshake, but old-school enough so that none of the new schoolers know who I am.

I started in 2002 on a 3rd Mix Korean v2 machine, and I agree with the rest of you 3rd Mixers, it's a really good mix, what with the exclusive Korean songs and all. I'm not that "old-school", but a lot of the time, I feel like it. _________________

Hey, being old school's not bad. In 2003, most of the guys in my place haven't even heard of MAX or MAX 2, much more EXTREME... We were stuck with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Mixes until 2005 when one of our arcades swtiched the old 4th Mix with a locally modified Stepmania which had almost every song known to DDRkind and that's when we realized we were playing old school for way toooo long. Now, we've got 2 EXTREME cabinets in 2 of our main arcades. It's great but I really miss OUR Stepmania which had well, even our old school favorites like Ba Kkwo, the E-Rotica and some songs on SOLO 2000 and 4th Mix PLUS unreleased on the EXTREME. Old School's great and the new versions are great too but I wish we had something well, even more new. _________________

Now *I* feel severely old school...
I first played on a DDR machine on December 31st, 2000. (Yes, I remember the day because I was at an arcade in FL celebrating New Years. Haha)
The arcade had two DDR USA machines. I played on one of them and thought I was so awesome because I could pass a bunch of the songs on Beginner (yes, DDR USA had a Beginner Mode - everything was 1 foot). Haha.
Well, since I was only in FL for vacation - I didn't actually get to play DDR regularly at the arcade until our local arcade got a 3rd Mix machine in May of 2001. Played on that for a year, and then they got a MAX2 in June of 2002 and then they upgraded to Extreme the next year.
I miss that 3rd Mix machine. I was just getting into Trick and how SSR/Maniac was a total joke to the DDR community around here (we were still all on Basic or Trick). _________________
