hey
ill be modding my ps1 sometime after christmas
i dont feel like soldering anything into my ps1 so ill probably be buying this http://www.tisinc99.com/psxchanver22.html
I have no idea how to get it to work so i have some questions
-Do I keep the cover of my Playstation ONE open and insert the PSX Change Ver2 Disc then take out the Change Disc and insert the Import Game when told to?
-When using this, do i have to patch the game disc or do i just put in the import game itself?
-If I have to patch my game, what is the name of the patch that I need at www.megagames.com ? What are some other patch choices to the PSX Change Ver2? _________________

you can leave it open or closed.

really depends what game you playing. if its DDR, then you could patch the game disc or find antimod codes to make it run

there are no patches for the PSX Change Ver2. If you are looking for a patch of a game just look for it the name and what region it is. |

Well, I got the magic switch, the swap magic disks, and Ex JP for Christmas (I have a slimline PS2, aka PSTwo).
First of all, the magic switch is a piece of crap. The plastic is flimsy and fairly soft. The B-piece (the one that holds the disc brake out of the way) doesn't fit very well, and when I first put it in, the disc was hitting it. It took less than a second for it to wear a nice groove in the B-piece's cheap plastic. After 10 minutes of trying to put in the C-piece, I gave up. The C-piece in the poorly-written online instructions did not remotely resemble the C-piece I had (despite the fact that the instructions had supposedly been updated to match the new (smaller) magic switch). They claim you can shut the console lid with the switches in, but you can't - the C-piece will still be in the way. Anyway, my dad and I ended up taking the PSTwo apart and using a small piece of duct tape to hold down the back sensor. Then we put it back together and I stuck the A-piece and the B-piece in their places. Everything worked, with the exception of the fact that even without the C-piece, I can't close the lid. When I do, the disc starts hitting something (I have no idea what).
Since this setup is now pretty fragile and likely won't last long (and now that I know that taking it apart isn't that hard), I'm going to get the PSTwo fliptop. But I have a couple of questions:
[edit: nevermind, I've got this figured out now]
Oh yeah, and the swap magic disc (the DVD one) was slightly warped, and scrapes lightly against the inside as it starts spinning.
Bottom line: magic switch sucks, mainly thanks to the C-piece and the overall cheesiness. Also, the B-piece doesn't fit well, and the adhesive on the A-piece isn't very sticky.
By the way, EX JP IS TEH AWESOME!!!! Max. (Period)'s 600 BPM section owned me (as did bag 1x). _________________

Well, I just ordered a Slim Fliptop off of PS2 Fliptop, and I hope it works out. I also bought EX JP from Lik-Sang (Mmm, Free Shipping).
Can't wait for them to arrive _________________

Hey,
I have a question about this new fliptop I got. Im following this guide, and Im on step 4. Is the Switch PCB the little green chip thing sticking on the bottom of the case? Im afraid to touch it and try to get it out of there and end up breaking it.
Any one who could help asap would get my gratitude for ever .
Thanks
Edit: Never mind, the case was installed. But there is a problem... the disks do not spin. I'm not sure whats wrong, but maybe it isn't recognizing that the cover is closed. Any advise from any of you that have done this before? _________________

Well, I haven't done this before, but I'll give you my $.02 anyway.
First of all...I wouldn't have bought that fliptop. It's completely different than the one I got (ordered it from here yesterday - middle of the second row) because it looks like you still have to use little pieces of plastic to hold the sensors down (steps 10-12 in the guide you linked to). If you still need to do that, what's the point of the fliptop? The one I got covers half the of PS2 (which probably means I won't have to take out the screw over the memory card ports etc.) It's only a replacement lid - one with a smaller (circular) lid inside that you open to swap the discs. The one you got doesn't appear to have a small lid inside of it (or does it?)
Anyway, are you sure you put the plastic pieces in correctly? That's the only thing I can think of, because if the PS2 knows the lid is open, it means that one of those switches isn't down all the way. _________________

Man, this sucks. I thought that the whole case was an actual flip top so that I could play import games, and that the case was used to make it so that it would let you open the case up and play import games.
Fuck.
It won't spin even with the cover closed, let alone with the plastic switch.
Oh, and here are some pictures, incase it helps at all

Yeah, that sounds bad. If I were you, I'd return it (they allow returns within 10 days after delivery). If you ask me, dealing with those stupid switches is more trouble than it's worth. I should be getting my flip top in a few days; I'll see how it goes... _________________

Yeah, I think I am.
But the worse part is, I tried to put the old case on, and it still doesn't spin. .
And if I can't get this to work, my mom said that I'll have to pay for a new one. Then she won't even let me buy the correct fliptop, which enables my DDR EX JP coming in about a week useless.
Man, I really am pissed off at myself right now. _________________

Ouch. That really sucks.
So you put the old case back on? When you start it up with a game inside (lid closed, of course) what happens? Do you get a screen with the graphic of the memory card on it (or maybe something else, I don't really remember what it does) or do you just get nothing? _________________

The system menu comes up, as if it acts like the door is open, but it dosn't make any noise. Sometimes, If I press down on the cover, it makes a noise like normal, but quits after 3 seconds and goes to the system menu.
I'm tinkering with it right now for any way to try and get it to work, seeing how the warenty sticker is broken and I can't return it. Im finding that the switch by the power button (looks like the switch that allows it to work if the cover is down) will make the fan whirl, but quit after a few seconds, like I said above. _________________

Does it do that if you press down on the cover and continue to keep pressure on it?
My advice is to hold down the front switch with the plastic piece that came with the flip top. Make sure the piece is on right and that the switch is down all the way. Next, put in a game and close the lid. Hit the power button and see if it starts up. If it works, then the front switch is the problem - I can't really see this happening, but if it does, it'll at least be something fairly easy to fix. If it doesn't, then it's probably because the back switch is acting up. You would then have to take the PS2 apart again to check the back switch (perhaps it got bumped slightly to the side at some point). _________________

Yeah I have been having problems with my PS2 fliptop. It plays all my imports fine, but for some US games it wont work. One of the games is In The Groove. It gets to the loading screen and then the disc stops and starts making weird noises. It sounds like the disc doesn't fit in the PS2 or something, but my other games are working for it. I actually got ITG to work by opening the lid to the fliptop while the game was at the loading screen. This only worked half the time though and i could only play like one or two songs before it started making the noises again. I have to check some more of my games to see if they have the same problem, but so far two games don't work and that is not good. |

I have a few questions about imports.
1. Will Japanese imports save on my memory card?
2. Does a slide card really screw up your motor?
I'm thinking about getting a fliptop and DDR Extreme (JAPAN) with some X-Mas money, but if a slidecard works, I'll probably go for that. What are your opinions?
Thanks. |

Schpeck wrote: | 1. Will Japanese imports save on my memory card? | Yes.
Memory Cards are not region locked.
Schpeck wrote: | 2. Does a slide card really screw up your motor? | Everyone says motor, but I Think it's something else (but it still does damage) because you're physically stopping something that should be moving.
It might be motor, so it can't kick the lazer into gear, or something.
It damages SOMETHING. Bottom line. _________________
