If you have a universal reader and a writer DVD rdive (drive? dvd-r drive?), then you can easily set up a japanese disc so that it will work.
Just copy the disc onto a region one disc so that your PS2 can read it...
And then all you need is a new memory card so that it can format itself to the langiage.
God... you just all got owned.

1) You're wrong. Completely and totally wrong.
2) NEVER EVER EVER POST LIKE THAT AGAIN.

All right, all right... I'll try to stop talking in leetspeak, it's just that I'm used to writing and typing it everywhere else. It's gotten kind of hard to type in English without going into leet... For me anyway. Anywho, what's the HDL? I forget... Can someone refresh me?

Hard Drive Loader
A PS2 Utility that allows you to rip games you own to the PS2 HD for quicker loading, essentially.

Okay, I got a few questions.

I keep hearing different things about this.
Some people say the timing window in the imports is the same as the arcade and some say not.

Then I hear the marvelous timing window in the home versions (regardless of region) equals the timing window for perfect in the arcade.

What's the deal, what’s true?

Arcade timing in Max and newer machines is tighter than in 5th Mix and prior. This statement *might* include 5th Mix, but I'm not sure. I definitely know the window is wider on 4th Plus and earlier.

Console timing has always been wider in general (UM1 might be an exception to this, as it has the strictest timing of any home version).

No, I very seriously doubt that the home Marvelous window is = the arcade Perfect window. It *may* be wider than the arcade Marv. window (I'm not sure that it is, I kinda doubt it), but it's definitely not *that* big.

Ok, I have a question...

Here's the scenario, I have all the PS2 home US mix's, and I'm looking to import at least one JP mix. I don't wanna get something that has a few new songs on it, but the rest are ones that have showed up on US mix's (ala Festival, It has some new ones, but most are repeats).

If you were in my situation, and you could only import 2 mix's, which ones would you choose, and why?

i'm in your situation (i have all home ps2 mixes and am starting to import, once i get the money, however frown.gif )

i would get extereme jp because of it's HUGE selection of Konami originals and 5th mix because of it's collection of very rare songs.

Ooh, Definitely get 5th mix. You won't be disappointed. I play that game all the time. I don't know what I like more, the long version songs like Hot Limit E1.gif , or the Beatmania songs. Since its frame rate is 60fps it's similar to the PS2 games, minus the FMV backgrounds.

I still haven't bought Extreme yet, since most of the songs are already on PS2 and Xbox. I may pick it up just for Last Message, and a few of the other songs that we haven't seen yet. Definitely get 5th mix though, Healing Vision Angelic Mix is on there with all of the step patterns from DDRMAX, not to mention the 2 songs by 2 Unlimited, which have fun steps as well.

If you have a DDRMAX (JP) or DDRMAX2 (JP) save game on your memory card, you can load Extreme (JP), select the appropriate support option, and Extreme will update your MAX/MAX2 save to unlock pretty much everything in those games.

Ooohh I see.. I was wondering why I unlocked 12 songs at once on Max 2.

How do you select song modifiers in DDRMAX2? I tried holding down O, X, and Start but the menu doesn't open up E2.gif

You're supposed to hold down circle. That's been the way it's been since MAX.

If you're doing it with a pad, try again with a controller just to rule out that you're not leaving your weight on it.

If you're just starting, I don't think that getting Exteme JP would be your best bet since there are only just a bit over 20 or so songs that haven't seen a US release here. Go for 5th Mix for the above reason and it's the only DDR that has the most collectables and home-made edit charts IIRC.

For those curious on what songs I'm talking about, here is the list for the ones that I can think of from the top of my head.

1. Across the Nightmare
2. Aoi Shoudou
3. Burning the Floor-MoMo Mix
4. Crash
5. Dance Dance Revolution
6. Graduation
7. Hyper Eurobeat
8. I Do, I Do, I Do
9. I'm Gonna Get You
10. Kiss Kiss Kiss
11. Last Message
12. Max.(period)
13. Mahou no Tobira-Speesu Mako Teemu
14. Memories
15. Mikeneko Roku
16. Stay
17. Stoic
18. The Least 100sec
19. We Are the Champions
20. We Will Rock You
21. White Lovers

Feel free to correct me if I'm missing a few.

DDR 5th Mix's PERFECT window is bigger than the arcade version.

Thanks, but I know that, and that wasn't the point of my statement. I'll break it down for you:

Extreme AC = MAX2 AC = MAX AC >= 5th Mix AC >= 4th Mix AC

MAX AC > 4th Mix AC

DDRMAX's arcade timing window is definitely smaller than 4th Mix arcade's timing window. I don't know whether 5th Mix matches 4th Mix or DDRMAX. I believe it matches 4th Mix.

I didn't mention anything about the CS versions, *other* than to say that for any given CS version, the matching AC version's timing is always tighter.

You should probably start in the How to Run Imports Thread. The first post there describes the various methods of getting imported games to run, and does mention the slide card, although mostly to say "Don't use the slide card". It's cheap, but could permanently damage your PS2. Read up on that thread, and if you have further questions, that's probably the place for them.

Not my fault you can't read.

Look at the stickied topics before you post anything in a particular forum.

Where can I get 5th Mix? It's out of stock or not there at all on those links, nothing on ebay. Cept the $80 prowned at toysnjoys. No.

Why didn't they do a greatest hits or something? Surely it sold well enough? Also, wish they did IIDX greatest hits.
