|

Pump sponsor Arturo sent me word this morning to let me know about the new details of next year's World Pump Festival. The biggest news is the increase of the grand prize to $30,000, but there's other goodies too.
Read on for more details... Arturo wrote: | After much discussion and consideration, Andamiro, the maker of Pump It Up, has decided to significantly up the ante on prize money for the next World Pump Festival in November 2006. Planning on winning first place? Well, prepare to pocket an ultra-cool $30,000.00 !!!
And of special interest to all of the female pumpers out there, for the Speed portion of the competition, there will be a separate Women's Division !!
With an estimated total cash purse of $133,000.00, WPF2006 promises to be extra-intense and rewarding for everyone!
Unlike that widespread rumor that had Mexico as the host country, WPF2006 is scheduled once again for the awesome city of Seoul, South Korea, in November of 2006. Extra nations, in addition to 2005's original 11 countries, are expected to be added.
More details to be announced later next year. In the meantime, the official link:
http://www.piugame.com/tempst_bbs/us/board_view.php?tbname=en_notice&page=1&page_num=20&key=&keyword=&no=16&category=
Start practicing, people, for your free trip to Korea and a shot at up to $30k !!!
EDIT -- And if you're interested, the following link has the recent, entire 3-hour-plus WPF2005 event posted (a huge download, so you might want a high-speed connection):
http://www.piugame.com/tempst_bbs/event/board_list.php?tbname=kor_event_168&page=1&divpage=1&no=188
There are many pics and short video clips there as well, both of the Festival and the related WPF events during the awesome weekend hosted by our amazing Korean friends. |

Makes ITG seem kind of cheap? a machine and then directly down to 1000.
Come on they can give up more prizes then what they are... seriously they aren't spending much money to house/fly players anyway. _________________

First off, Andamiro only produces the arcade cabinets for In The Groove. And IIRC, they are not sponsoring the tournament. Roxor is, and since they're a much much smaller company, they don't have that much to give out prize wise. I think a BRAND NEW $10,000 arcade machine is pretty damn good for 1st Place in terms of the ITG Tournament _________________

It's stupid that girls get a separate division. I think it's sexist. I realize that there's stuff like the WNBA, but I think that's sexist on its own. I've heard of girls who can hand me my buttocks in Pump or DDR, so I don't believe that guys are so infinitely better than girls, that they can't even play in the same division.

I think it's more of an affirmative-action type thing. I know that girls are just as capable at the game, if not moreso, but like with most video games, they tend on the whole to shy away and let the competitive boys take the spotlight. This encourages more girls to participate, I think, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I can see it from both points of view, really. _________________

Zanneth, you don't need to be a Supporter to go. But, send Smidget a PM if you're interested in joining the Supporter team. _________________

As many suspected, in the Speed category it came down to Wero of Mexico (who constantly hovered at or near the top of the internet rankings for much of the year) and Chang Lee of South Korea (who was talked of as the up-and-coming heir apparent of Kang2, who broke his leg and couldn't compete). And it was a very close match, with Lee pulling it out by a razor-thin margin.
The U.S. did well, with redviper finishing tied for 3rd in Speed. This, despite a bad cold, complete with vomiting shortly beforehand.
And yes, it was in South Korea, just outside of the capital city of Seoul, taking place as part of the huge gaming expo, GStar (much like E3 and Tokyo Game Show). WPF2006 will again be in South Korea. _________________

if you disagree, you haven't played the game.
there is no way to win the arguement about the womens division. if you have it is sexist and segrated, if you don't it's still sexist and unfair.
i may sound sexist saying it's unfair, but generally guys are better at it. sorry ladies!
i would love to be able to participate this year, but the closest pump machine is an hour and a half away, and i can't play nearly as much as i would like. _________________
