I'm relatively new to DDR. I recently read that Captain Jack died. Who was Captain Jack? Was he a music composer?

Yes, and he wrote a number of cool DDR songs (for example: Dream A Dream, In The Navy, Only You, Captain Jack (Grandale Remix)).
