can anyone clear up for me once and for all if EMSUSB2 adapters work with ignition 2.0 and stepmania?

if so, does it work with 2 pads? what pads?

i ordered mine from lik-sang and i want to know if it will work or not. The reviews seemed to be good but people at this forum seem to be having TONS of problems with it...

Right now I think it is trial and error, if you have already ordered it then wait till you get it to see if everything works alright, then post results to let everyone else know that it is a good product. E1.gif

Yep... have that ordered it's shipping sometime

Took a long time to clear customs but it finally arrived... and it works pretty good. I didn't have any troubles so far (only tested it once though... it goes into ddr mode fine) Anyhow I don't have two controllers to test it but from what I have seen so far (less then 1 game really) I would give it a 5/5

If anything comes up I'll further add to this...

What is your operating system? If it's Windows XP - what's your service pack?

Also - any lag? Hopefully it will work with Cobalt Flux

Did you ever solve this? Mine has worked perfectly for over a year, but today it stopped. Not a driver problem, as it neither works on Windows nor MacOS X (when it worked on both before). In Windows it shows up as two devices, and the properties show all buttons as pressed.

I'll probably order a new one, but it's too bad because my winter break just started.

Do you need that kind of adapter to play? I just bought the following pad of RedOctane:

http://www.redoctane.com/ignitionpadv3.html

And it came with an attachable USB cord for the PC. Now my question..

I connected it to my comp, and the New Hardware window popped up so I figured it installed it, so I go to play and I cant. Cant I just use the USB it came with and sumhow configure it that im not knowing about? Cause thats pretty dumb if I cant

All help appreciated

okay! I finally bought a EMS USB2 for my ignition v2 pad. I got pretty excited when it arrived. HOWEVER! when the freaking thing wouldn't work!?
what teh heck? i thought people on the forum said EMS USB2 is like the best adapter out there which you can use any pad with. so here comes my question. why doesn't it work? It's shown correctly under Game Controller as 4 axis 16 button joystick with okay status.

When i went to configure it, i get this dance pad configure program.

that's what the configure problem looks like. but when i press on my pad, nothing happens!? So what should i do?

also for the type you can change it to dance; but that doesn't make a difference either.

I assume you're doing this for StepMania right? If so get rid of that program and go to Options > Config Key/Joy Mappings.

i think i didn't explain things straight here
the screen i posted, that's the driver for the EMS USB2 adapter. therefore i can't get rid of it. and yes i've already tried to map the keys. but no response when i tap the pad.

Just a quick quesion,

What would you guys say is the best PS2-USB convertor for use with a Red Octane Afterburner in order to eliminate the static disconnect problem that so frequently occurs in my Afterburner. I would like to be able to play Stepmania once again, and don't want to waste my time or money buying something that doesn't work.

I have done considerable searching in both this and the Afterburner thread, and have found no information on this matter. Either I am an unskilled search artist, or both of the said topics are long and poorly organized. Probably both are true,

Thanks,
Stew E13.gif

Okay, I have a problem. Here's my hardware:

Computer
BNS DX-Xtreme
BNS Super Dual Box (the real one, listed on Stepmania.com and matches picture in first post, except it's white)

I ordered the DX-Xtreme and Super Dual Box from Buy'N'Shop, but for some reason, I also got a 2nd DX-Xtreme for free, and I didn't get the parallel port adapters. Instead, I got 2 PS2 to Xbox adapters and 2 USB to Xbox cables. I tried the Super Dual Box with the DX-Xtreme, and it worked. I used the code, went into the control panel, game controllers, and stepped on arrows. It registered as a joystick movement and a button press. I went into Stepmania and mapped the buttons. They mapped as buttons, and not arrows, which I believe is correct. I started playing a song, and everything was working fine. Stretch jumps (up-down, left-right) all worked, and I thought everything was okay. Then about 10 seconds into the song, it reverts back to mapping the arrows as joystick movements, and nothing works anymore. I have to re-enter the code. It lasts for another couple seconds, and I have to enter it again. Wtf is wrong? I just got this stuff yesterday.

when i use my adaptor, the signal is delayed a bit when i use it w/a PSX dance pad as opposed to the dual-shock controller

i read somewhere that adjusting the GlobalOffsetSeconds setting in StepMania can fix this, and i've tweaked it some and it's better but still not that great at all. is there a way to get it exact?

I'm not sure why there'd be a major difference between a dance pad and a regular controller when using the same adapter, but one general way to reduce adapter lag is to change your computer's USB poll rate. By default, Windows only takes input from USB devices once every 8ms, which is quite a bit of added lag when you're dealing with small timing windows like we are. You can use a program like this to change the poll rate to something smaller, cutting down on adapter lag.

Try using the AutoAdjust feature in Stepmania to get an estimate of what your global offset should be. Do a number of different songs, and take note of how much it adjusts each of them. For example, if you test with four songs and it adjusts them +8ms, +10ms, +12ms, and +13ms, then the rough average would be about +11ms and you could try that for your global offset. Be sure to restore the songs you tested with afterwards to their original offset values. Then you can test with some more songs using AutoAdjust and tweak the global offset a little further if you have to.

where is the AutoAdjust... is that in like where you create steps for songs, or somewhere else?

I think it's F7 that you can hit to turn on AutoAdjust during a song; it's one of the function keys in that vicinity at least. You can also select it on the second page of the options menu after you pick your song; it's near the Assist Tick option.

hmm.. F6 turns on AutoSync. i went through a few simple songs that just had quarter notes w/the AutoSync, and it would say it adjusted by so much. So i'd use the amount of change it had and put that in the GlobalOffsetSetting.. and try a song w/no AutoSync.. and it wouldn't work again. so i'd repeat. right now my GOS is at -1.940000. the offset moves the arrows lower on the screen so that if i hit them at the original time, it's supposed to match up.. but it's like it's it doesn't match w/the song at all.. i'll finish a song (unsuccesfully, because i'll still get like nearly all Boos.. and then somehow 2 random perfects) and there will still be two measures of arrows to complete. am i doing it wrong?

turn GBS back to 0 and tried AutoSync once more and got -1.10, i'll try that later but for now i tried adjusting the USB mouse polling.

i set it to one setting higher and kept trying, but the device reacted the same way. maybe it's the adaptor, or the pad model/plug? i don't understand how a PS2 controller works perfectly and a pad has delays. i can play StepMania fine using a PS2 controller x.x

I just bought a CF and its coming next week, I also have a SmartJoy Plus USB adapter on my iMac G5. Do you think the pad will work with StepMania? If not, any suggestions?
