Ok here is the idea I got. I'm gonna put a laptop in my basement hook it up to a TV, hook my CF up to it and play stepmania. But I don't want to save the files to my laptops harddrive. So i'm gonna buy a flash drive to save everything on. So how much space should I have on said flash drive and if anyone knows a good one, give me a link thanks. |

I doubt you could find a flash drive for something that big. Is your StepMania that size, smaller, larger? Be specific. |

My folder is currently 112MB, with about 20 songs... so I guess a 512MB just to be safe. Now all I need to know is a good brand name of flash drives. |

It depends on how many songs you want. Assume maybe 20MB for the base installation, and 2MB per simfile for typical DDR-length songs (most are a fair bit smaller, but you want to leave some margin for error).
If you wanted a full set of official DDR simfiles from DDRUK, that's about 1.8GB last time I checked, so a 2GB flash drive should cut it. If you wanted to piece together all the songs that are on DDR Extreme, that'd be 200-something songs, so a 512MB card would hold them with some room to spare. If you wanted all the songs from In The Groove 1 and 2, that'd be about 140 songs or so. You should be able to do the math by yourself.
It really just depends on how many songs you want on there.
You might seriously want to consider buying an external hard drive instead of a flash drive, or convert an existing internal hard drive you might have lying around (or that you could buy second-hand cheaply) into an external one by buying an enclosure. That way space won't be nearly as much of a concern.
A 2GB USB flash drive costs well over $100. But you can get an 80GB external USB2 hard drive for under $100. That's 40 times as much space. Or get an 80GB internal drive for $60 and put it in a $20 USB2 enclosure... total $80.
If you do go the flash drive route, any USB2 flash drive of a given capacity is basically the same as any other. I wouldn't worry too much about brand. |

Let's all show off our stepmania penis!!!!
It's a month old. Add a few GB now.
Aww you guys did the whole folder... I just did songs. I was wondering how you could have 2x the files and only require 5 GB more than me. =\ |

It just depends on how many songs you're going to want to play:
That's all the DDR mixes, all the songs from ITG1 & 2 and about 400 Original songs. Along with a bunch of official DDR background movies that I found online. _________________
