Is there or will there ever be a Japanese version of In The Groove?

I only have a Japanese PlayStation 2. Is it worth it for me to get a U.S. PS2 to be able to play ITG and the U.S. DDR games?

You don't think American games get released in Japan?

do you work for roxor, so don't comment. either yes, or no.

honestly, you are better off finding an arcade with ITG if you want to play it. it's really not worth buying a a-spec ps2 just for ITG.

See? With a little duct tape and a hammer, you can fix just about ANYTHING.

I checked the GameFAQs game list (which is usually pretty up-to-date and extensive), and I didn't see any Japanese version of In The Groove listed. However, an arcade cabinet of it shouldn't be too hard to find, as I know people in some Japan do play ITG.

Well, I work for RedOctane, but I can't give you a definitive answer on your question.

However, I don't see any reason at all why they would release ITG PS2 to a Japanese market that has no/few arcade machines, is tired of dance games in general, and has already been overwhelming saturated by DDR whereas ITG came in while people were still getting into dance games in the US. They couldn't possibly expect to make any money off that release.

So I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Thanks, everyone. So the question is, is it worth it for me to get ITG as a long-time DDR fan?

Yeah, it's definitely worth it. It's much more challenging, the songs are longer, and the steps show more variety than the DDR "Baseline 8th notes with gallops thrown in around the middle" motif. The songs are longer, the modifiers rule, and handplants and mines give everyone something new to shoot for.

Are there any American versions of DDR worth getting, if I already have all of the Japanese versions?

Maybe the later Ultramixes. Maybe.

Yeah, Ultramix 1-3 for XBox is POSSIBLY worth getting, but only if you can find it for less than $20 American, minus delivery. So in other words, probably not.

I'd recommend even the glitchy, censored PS2 version of In The Groove way before any of the American DDR titles, though.

This only applies to you if you regularly play 10 footers. If you can't handle 10 footers, don't buy ITG! It's not fun until you can play the upper-difficulty songs, which are the only charts they put any work into.

Also, I would say that UM2 and 3 are very good games, which you should buy. Though I haven't played UM3 yet, its getting a lot of attention. UM2 has probably seen most of my DDR playtme, and UM1 is mostly a recap of what XBOX had missed (with some new material or different mixes of songs).

Overall, I'd say wait for ITG2 console release. Play some at the arcade. If you like the arcade, play at home. Don't let strangers decide for you.

You got the point of my message. Therefore, the poster of this thread, I assure you, got the point of my message. E1.gif

Again, if ITG(dedicated cab) was released in Japan, maybe it would help with the slump of DDR over there.

Do you have any particular reason to believe that, or is it "just your book" talking again?

My reasoning is that all the song lists suck, and i own ultramix and it sucks so much, i hate it.

I think he meant the 2nd part of your post, where you decide that ITG in Japan will never happen. I don't see it as totally infeasible, though. There certainly wouldn't be one immediately, but if ITG continues on past 5, 6, 7 mixes or whatever, I wouldn't completely rule it out.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I spend most of my ITG time playing 8s and 9s, and I have to say: they did a great job with most of them, IMHO.

I started on Medium on ITG1, and there are even some decent Medium charts if you look around. I think the 7's and 8's on Hard are fine too. (Some less fine than others, of course.)
