plz don't take this offensive or give me a warning for this but, i guess it's just one of those things africans don't like to do is play DDR. they dominate at many sports except hockey.

I agree completely. And I've been victim of negativity. All the ddr posters I put up at school get torn down and ripped in half. (talk about hatred) However! I'm not about to blame a whole group of people for the actions of a few idiotic individuals. Even if it is a mass of them. o0 _________________

In terms of why people hate us when it comes to playing this game is irrelevant, there is always going to be something that each and everyone is not going to enjoy.
There will always be people that will enjoy playing ddr to every possible extent and there are going to those people that will not enjoy it. I'm 25 years old and the oldest player in my city that plays it at a continous and competitive level.
There are times that I play songs on DDR and ITG that I look like a complete fool, and I do get made fun of but you wanna know something I don't let it get the better of me. Let these people have their moment; its not something that they can see themselves doing and they're only voicing an opinion, sometimes in a childish way but its their choice.
Deep down whether its playing ddr/itg/piu or doing anything else, finding happiness from making other people miserable is sheer childishness. I have seen this kind of misery happen to myself and many of my friends who are teenagers who play this game.
There are always going to be people that will despise this game for their own reasons, but there are going to be hobbies that these people will enjoy that we could possible hold it against them in a negative fashion. It kind of acts like a double-edged sword unfortunately.
I can recall two occassions in which my friends and I have suffered the negative impacts, of specific people who make fun of the people who play this game.
1.) One of the best players in this city is a 14 year old teen, who is the little brother of my best ddr friend who got me into this game in the first place. He is the ony player in this province that can pass vertex2 expert. Over a year ago he was playing on the ddr machine and these groups of teen girls with their bf's came to the arcade, and started making fun of him when he was stealthing max 300. When he finished playing, he was playing some sort of a shooter game at the arcade when these people started harrassing him, and then one of the girls pushed him: now he has quite a bit of a temper so he ended up pushing back, which really put the girls bf and their friends in a bad mood. So when they started to gang up on him I had to eventually step in. I told him to stand behind me since I relatively bigger and older than the people who were harrassing him, they tried to get to him, and I told him not to get involved because he'll probably get kicked out of the arcade for it, so while I was picking up for him I had to put up with them yelling obscenities at me and him, and they tried to pick a fight with me, but I stood my ground and never said anything back to them, after they realized I wasn't sinking down to their immature level they evntually left.
2.) I was playing ddr by myself when these heavy metal teenagers and their long hair came into the arcade and while I was playing, one of them jumped onto the pad next to me that started mocking me, screaming ohhhhh yeahhhhhhhhh doing head banging completely off sync with the song I was playing. They thought it was a big kick and good laugh that they were making fun of me but i didn't let it bother me. It kind of bothered my gf though, she said if any of those guys had of pushed me or done anything like she would of kicked their buttocks, and trust me she can kick really hard, lol.
Despite whatever reasons people have for hating us when we play this game, whether its because of their own insecurities, social status, or what they see as cool or not, these people will always exist. If they have to take out their angst against the game and people that play it, then its their choice. I would just think if they have to make fun of people in a cruel way to get their point accross its a childish way of doing it.
Personally if I don't like something or someone else's hobby I'll come out and say it, but I will not make a person feel like crap because of it
Deep down your more of a person to walk away from a fight than to start one, so if someone is making fun of you or hating you becaue of playing ddr; ask yourself one question. Do you enjoy playing it despite what other people think?
As long as you answer that question to yourself in a positive light, nobody no matter what they have to say will never deter you from playing that game. _________________

There's a decent amount of obnoxious "shadow" dancers who have gotten up next to me at the arcade, and by dancing I mean stomping random panels in a random rhythm (if there is a rhythm). I always ignore them (mostly because I happen to be in the middle of a cata), but that sometimes gets me laughed at as well because I don't respond. If they keep it up, I just accidentally let my arms swing a little too far, and if it connects....oopsie. _________________

Well, Im in a little different group than most of you here. I just turned 34 Nov 30th. I play games all the time. I play anything from Halo, to Wresteling, to DDR or "Stepmania".
I could care less now what people think, and when I was young, I could care less even more. I was never cool, just normal, with friends and hung out and was ,and still am the clown.
If you dont live your life the way you want, and enjoy the things you like, you will never be truly happy.
So some laugh, and poke fun. So they are too cool for anything other than girls and screwing.....Fine! Let them be that way. When they look at you and make fun just look back and laugh at them while they are being led around on a leash by their little girlfriends and their preppy ways.....

Sorry....Im not good with short forms of words....What does WEWT mean?
Like I said, Im in a different group than most of you here. Ive been married for 13 years and have 2 boys that enjoy games as well.We are big time gamers here in our house.
Ive got a ton of systems and games, 3 gaming computers "ive built", and I just bought the 360 at launch. I also build my own ddr pads from my own design....Im not like most dads, and thats how I like it. |

I think you guys are being too stereotypical about how preppy people act. From what it looks like you guys are saying that only preppy people are the ones that mock you. I for one am what you guys would define "preppy". I wear Abercrombie and I watch MTV but I still love DDR. I'm sure not only "preppy" people are the ones that mock us while playing. _________________

My response to people like this is always generally the same. I will either brutally insult them, or just ask them if they want to fight. I learned early on that such people cannot be reasoned with, so I go straight to informing them that their mothers had sex with an entire petting zoo the previous night. It's never failed me. _________________

I understand that getting harrassed by random people is annoying, and I also understand that they have no good or valid reason for it, but that doesn't mean that we should treat them the same way. they are entitled to their opinions, even if those do stem from a general dislik or lack of understanding. Sure it's annoying, but I think it would be better just to ignore them. They usually go away when they realize that they aren't getting a reaction and in the end, people will see who is acting more mature.
I guess the moral of the story is just to let them have their fun and we'll have ours. Life goes on either way. _________________

Er....
At the TILT in the mall I go to to play DDR there were these, 8 year old (I'm guessing) brats there, all dressed like they were hardcore pimps and they were standing on the pad and wouldn't get off, I asked them if they were going to play it and they're all like "Pssh, no, why would I play this gay-buttocks game?" So I asked them to get off so I could play and they did.
I was playing Witch Docter {Heavy} and one of the kids was putting his foot on the bottom arrow like he was trying to mess me up....He almost did. When I finished the songs I asked him why he was putting his foot there and he said that I was "too good at that damn game." WTF!!

Seriously don't let some little 8 year old eminem wannabe push you around. You should've stabbed him in the throat, then killed the rest of his family in front of his loser friends so they got the right message. _________________
