In the wake of me noticing a lot of Beginner and Light members having the collective intelligence of my laundry basket, I was wondering if having some kind of general knowledge test would ever be considered for joining the forums. Nothing too elaborate, just something to prove that you aren't a complete moron.

Amazingly, we've been thinking/hoping on doing something like this for quite some time.

while it sounds like a good idea.... i disagree
because the forums are here so people can ask questions. If we didn't let people who didn't know anything on our forums, everyone who answer's noobish ?'s would no longer answer them, and the overall intelligence about ddr of the beginner and light community would go down, which would make them very unwise at the arcade. = \

But the people who are willing to learn and ask questions probably wouldn't fail this test. People like this, for instance, probably would not learn anything at all, and probably wouldn't get by the test either.

First, the quiz would not be about DDR. It would be about common sense, or more specifically the FAQ. Such as "What is the maximum size your signature can be?" Then we may have 3 answers, say the correct answer and then two ridiculous ones. They don't have to actually think, but at least it's one more way they are seeing the rules.

It would not be to scare away idiots. It would be to help them become more intelligent, so when they DO ask questions they're good questions that will benefit everyone.

Not a bad idea at all, methinks, if it's just stuff from the FAQ.

I think giving an easy test/quiz on the FAQ of this forum would be a good idea.

Not on a private forum, no.

Anyway, I'm all for it. However, if you guys do implement something like this, I doubt it'll work. People still get a High School diploma without knowing the difference between to/two/too, so....yeah.

Not that I'm saying you guys are the equivilant to the American Education System, just proving my point.

Does phpBB2 have a feature like this? Anyhoo here's a good idea... if you put a subject in the subject line you get an auto-ban.

How about a reading comprehension test too?

And why is that?

How exactly would this affect topic starters? E10.gif

YES. Incorporate tests of basic English grammar and such as well. If nothing else, the existence of such a test alone will probably scare off most of the AOL-speakers in the first place. Special provisions could be made for those who do not know English as a first language but would still like to participate in forum discussion.

Oh, and EBT: the ability to differentiate homophobes might prove to be useful, as well. E13.gif

EDIT: I had a new thought to this. Make the FAQ test an absolute requirement. However, make the comprehension/grammar test optional. However, if you don't pass the test, you never get your 10 post/day limit removed.
