|
|
Just a quick question. When I play ITG on my PS2 I like the way the game looks with all the 'hide' options turned on. The problem is that hiding the background video DQs you from ranking. I don't understand why this is the case. To me it seems more dificult to play without a background because the arrows arent moving against an image so it's harder to track them. Ironically, turning off judgement doesn't DQ even though it removes some clutter from the screen. Perhaps people think I'm whack, but I want to know why the DQ when it seems harder to me with the backgound off |

Its because with the BG off you can supposedly read the notes better. This is true for myself. |

It removes a lot of distractions and has been known to help people read the arrows better, etc. _________________

Speed mods help people read the arrows better too, though =\ |

According to that logic, you should be disqulified unless you use Invisible.
Probably the only reason Hide Background DQs is because RoXoR wants to show their videos to specators, so the graphics will look better. Lame, but makes a lot of sense. |

That is probably the most reasonable explanation.
People who haven't played the game might find it boring if all they see are arrows scrolling up, but if they saw a background video they might be more encouraged to play because of better graphics. |

Hmm... I remember being able to adjust background video brightness in the options menu. Is it possible to turn it down to 0%? I'll have to try when I get home. |

What puzzles me is that C500 DQs you, but NOT 1.5x. I'm not talking about speed mods as crutches or anything, but come on. 1.5x speed on Anubis is going to be roughly 100 times easier than C500 Anubis. If speed mods are allowed, they should be allowed across the board. The only thing it could possibly make easier is full-stops, but those aren't all THAT common even on ITG. _________________

It's to prevent people from using cmods on songs that change bpm (VerTex, Energizer, etc.) _________________

I understand that part, but I'm just saying that it's easier to read speed changes than an incredibly fast scroll speed. Even at its peak Vertex only gets 112 bpm faster than C500. _________________

I don't see where you come up with the "1.5x speed on Anubis is going to be roughly 100 times easier than C500 Anubis". I can read Anubus on x4 easily along with a lot of other members of this forum.
I really don't get what you're getting at though. Why is there a reason regular speed mods should DQ someone? _________________

You managed to fail at recognizing both hyperbole and my point in one fell swoop. I never said regular speed mods should be disallowed. As a matter of fact my exact phrasing was more along the lines of "If speed mods should be allowed, they should be allowed across the board." I can play a couple of Expert charts on 6x speed, but that's not the point, either.
My point was that C500 isn't any easier than 1.5x speed, tempo changes notwithstanding. It's fast enough to make reading a challenge, and there's only one song (I'm not counting Vertex^2 or Robotix) that will get slowed down at C500, and there isn't one song (including Energizer) in which tempo changes are difficult to catch. _________________

They want you to play the songs with tempo changes to qualify for it. Bloodrush would be a lot easier without the tempo change, because it has fast stream at a slow bpm. Put on a C mod, and you take out a part of the song that makes many people fail.
Or you could make the same argument as in the beginning of the thread and say that Roxor wants you to play with the tempo changes that they worked to sync up in the song. |

Not really a tempo change, but there is one roll in Onyx that kinda throws you into a mine field. So yeah, if not BPM changes, BPM pauses(Or whatever you wanna call them). They can be a doggy, 'specially in a deadly place like that. _________________

Okay. Go play Bloodrush Expert on a regular speed mod, then play it on a CMod. See how the middle section suddenly isn't impossible to play?
Now go play VerTex with a CMod. See how you don't have to settle for a low speed mod on 90% of the song so that you can read the ending?
Then go play something with stops, like Disconnected Hyper. See how you don't have to guess when to begin stepping after a stop? |

The middle isn't impossible to play or read, period. I play EVERYTHING on 1x unless I'm challenged to do a high-speed reading. That means Anubis, D-Code, Charlene, and EVERY other song. Not one of them has proven to be impossible. Difficult? Yes. But by no means impossible.
The only tough part in the middle section of Energizer is knowing where jumps are.
Houou also wrote: | Now go play VerTex with a CMod. See how you don't have to settle for a low speed mod on 90% of the song so that you can read the ending? |
If the ending is that hard to read, play it on Mini. Makes it universes easier. But frankly, you don't even need to do that. There's only two jumps in the entire 612 section, and the section itself isn't that draining. The rest of the song isn't much faster than Afronova Primeval on DDR, with a few slowdowns and 16th steps thrown in. Speed mods are hardly necessary.
In addition, Houou wrote: | Then go play something with stops, like Disconnected Hyper. See how you don't have to guess when to begin stepping after a stop? |
Disconnected Hyper ALWAYS stops and starts on the beat. It always stops on a red arrow, and always starts again one measure later with the exception of the last one, which begins about 3 measures later (I don't have a chart with me, so I'm not exactly sure, but the music gives you plenty of warning). You can't possibly think that THAT is hard to do without a C Mod, can you? Heck, it even WARNS you about the stops before you even begin the song. Take a look at the difficulty selection arrow on the song selection screen. It always jumps at the sample's BPM. _________________

show me a picture of your score with bloodrush expert with x1 and C300 or C450, please do that, then i might believe you
and dis. hyper, the first time you play it, you don't know where the stops are, stops are tricky, or else they wouldn't put them in, are you saying that ! Ex.'s middle stop with the roll is just as hard with a Cmod? because it's not, with a cmod, everything goes smoothly and you see exactly when arrows come and go with no trouble at all |

Look, if we're going to get into what's easier to read where, then it's just going to become a matter of splitting hairs further and further down, so I'm going to just cut you off there. _________________
