Apparently there's no difference if you're a mod. You can do either one and get away with it all you want!
But of course here on the glorious forums that are DDRfreak.com, everybody's entitled to their own opinion, right? And on these forums, according to the rules written, one should not be flamed for having said opinion. Seems fair enough, doesn't it? To me it does.
But to the mods, I guess, it doesn't. Or one mod in particular.
http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=8277263#8277263,
Here was my initial post in the thread:
lolinternet wrote: | ahah forced 1x? what a piece of trash |
Maybe a bit abrasive, but a valid opinion and a valid contribution to the thread. Forced 1x, in some people's opinion, is pretty crappy. But in someone elses opinion it was right to flame me. That person, of course, was a mod.

What? So is that flaming, or is that flame-bait? I'd say it was flaming. Does it matter? Nah. Either way you look at it, one of the persons in charge of enforcing the rules has no problem breaking them.
I'd say that's a problem. What kind of example does that set? DDRfreak is a fairly large forum, and considering the type of posters here, definitely needs a decent amount of moderation to keep the shit storms to a minimum. But what kind of example does it set when the people who were put in charge of enforcing the rules are immune to them, and break them without thinking twice? Not a good one, that's for sure.
My post following his was out of line, and I did deserved to be warned for it. I can admit that. But so was his. So where's the line drawn? Can mods flame-bait and flame all they want with no penalty?
People like this, people who don't know how to set an example, people who break the rules that they were put in charge to enforce probably shouldn't hold positions like these in the first place.
Unfortunatley it didn't stop there.

New meaning ORIGINAL songs. Not the same song that's been in arcade mixes forever and just now made it to a console version. | I hear UM3 will have Let Them Move SURVIVOR, and it'll be a flashing 13.85. And they'll also be disabling the use of speed mods and Solo especially for that song.<naruto>Believe it!</naruto> |
More flame-bait. I'm pretty sure it's personal (to him, at least) by now. I didn't bother replying to this as I'm sure he'd warn me again or something. In the next post you can see his fanboys congratulating him on making fun of me because I, uh, asked a question in the thread?
But honestly, I have to congratulate him. He's done a good job of completely underminding the system he was put in place to enforce.
Good job buddy! I'm proud of you.
We're all proud of you.
edit: I should note that this is not personal, I don't know Cutriss, and the only interaction I've had with him is in the threads I linked to above. I didn't even realize he was a moderator until he warned me after I flamed him (and a few other people) for flaming me. |

Wow, that's really tame. Blatant flamage is one thing, but not everything you don't like is flamebait. Mods not being total nazis is a good thing. Seriously, your handle would imply less whining. Buck up. |

Setting an example as a mod is a good thing. If you've got a no racism rule in place and you've got a racist mod, then you've got a problem on your hands.
An extreme example but it's the same thing in this case. |

lolinternet wrote: | But honestly, I have to congratulate him. He's done a good job of completely underminding the system he was put in place to enforce. | Not really. You deserved it. And if you check my warn points...
For the record? I've *never* hard a warn during my entire time here. And I ate one specifically for you.
As for your second comment (which was actually the one I responded to first), I was kind of pointing out the fact that, per usual, you asked a question that either had not been answered yet in any official capacity, or it was answered by reading the first post in the thread. Coming in and asking if there are any new 9's or 10's...well shit...I guess you expect us to know everything about every game (and have the ability to say such) before they come out? You were posting like a n00b, and while I wasn't really making a jab at you, I don't mind if you took it that way.
Besides - the way you swagger around here...You act like you've been here for years, even though your account is but a few meager months old. That always tends to draw suspicion and, in your case, ire, for not observing the pecking order. In other words, you're not old enough to start talking like you're hot shit.
Your comment about Mario Mix was hardly a "valid contribution to the thread". Yes, it's your opinion, but gee...you know what? Opinions aren't worth a lot, and nobody is particularly interested in yours, especially when that's the subject of almost every negative post about Mario Mix in the freaking thread. In other words, it gets old fast. Compound that with the fact that you talk like you're on AOL and you whine about gameplay characteristics that were in place for the first three years of DDR's existence, and you sound like a troll.
Intelligent posting reigns supreme here, not bandwagoning. _________________

In other news, trying to nitpick spelling/grammar with EBT is like -insertCollossalMetaphorHere-. _________________

cutress was punished like any other user might be for finishing a war you started and the best bet right now is for you to not post for a week or two then change your name avitar and sig and hope no one notices _________________

I'm sure that's what he/she meant. Definitely.

I understand he was punished like any other user and I'm satisfied with that result. It's good to see that you have checks and balances in places to make sure those in power aren't allowed to abuse it as they please.
But you think I should change my name, avatar, and stop posting because I posted my thoughts on a few different subjects on a message board?
Can we be serious here? Please? This is the second time I've had to ask |

lolinternet wrote: | I can agree with most (not all, I don't talk like I'm from AOL what the christ is that about), but are you serious? | Specifically referring to this: Quote: | ahah forced 1x? what a piece of trash | No caps, hardly any punctuation, demonstrated ignoring of previous posts saying the same thing. lolinternet wrote: | Intelligent posts on ddrfreak, reigns supreme, what? Lets be serious here, please | Just because n00bs post here doesn't mean we're n00b city. A lot of people like to slag DDR Freak because we're friendlier to newbies than most. A lot of the elitists from other sites "grew up" here, and when they outgrew it, they had to piss all over it to prove their Internet manhood. It's like parenting, in a way.
And yes, some of the wiser and more intelligent people here will definitely tell you that intelligent posting reigns supreme. We can have some great technical or factual discussions without having to quote the Internet saying du jour.
Now, I don't tend to wander into places like DDR Chit-Chat or Random Chat, so I'll make no testament to those places, but I take a great amount of pride in the work I do in Consoles, which is why I also tend to be protective of it whenever someone comes along and hits his head on the cabinets because he didn't read the "HEY IDIOT - WATCH OUT!" signs posted al over the place. You can make things idiot-proof all day long, but humanity has its way of making better idiots. _________________

I see where you're coming from, 100%. It's just hard not to be bitter towards Konami when it comes to console mixes at this point. I hope you understand. |

I can understand that, but all signs seem to point to the notion that Konami basically just licensed DDR to Nintendo, and that Nintendo ran with it from there, so if you want to blame anyone, I'd point the finger squarely at them. And like I said - ridiculing it outright just because it lacks some particular feature you like isn't a good practice - a lot of people are enjoying Mario Mix, even without 10 footers and Double Mode.
At any rate, if you're satisfied with the resolution here, then I suggest we take the intelligent discussion of Disney^H^H^H^H^H^HMario Mix back to Consoles. _________________

So, I wanted a flaming thread, and I got one. Normally I would side with lolinternet on this one, but lolinternet has unfortuantely become a hypocrite here. You started a flame war in order to make certain mods (Cutriss, mainly) respect your opinions and not flame. In doing so, you have defeated the point of this thread. In my opinion, I must agree that many mods like to flame for no apparent reason, and yes, it is unprofessional. This is so ironic it hurts. You tried to make the forums a better place and in the end, all you caused was more tension. Let's just end this fight now; did you see Cutriss' two, yes two warning points. How disreputable! Should anyone really care at this point? No. |

Now, I'm not the most active DDRF member anymore, but I rarely see a mod flame someone else.
If you could cite some examples, that'd be great. _________________
