I've seen lots of questions about adapters/Pads for Macs, and no one seems to anwer. So, now that I've gotten it to work, I'm posting my setup in case it can help somebody.
I have used the PS/PS2 Universal adapater from Redoctane (http://www.redoctane.com/universaladapter.html) successfully. I paid $20 for it (and now I see they have it on sale for $15, oh well). Two pads I've tried are a redoctane ignition 2.0 (with PS2 being plugged into the adapater) and also my home made hard pad, with some random cheap PS2 compatible controller board ripped out of a soft pad. Both work fine, although it's necessary to do the up-start-select button press to work well.
On the mac side of things, I'm using an old Pismo powerbook, which is a G3, only about 256M of RAM, running OSX 10.4. Nice because it has the built-in S-video out.
In addition, I had to install the GamePad Companion USB driver (http://www.carvware.com/gamepadcompanion.html). I'm amazed that this old computer can run the program with good speed, no obvious slow-downs, even when showing videos in the background. |

im most likely buying the BNS NX Pad (i dont wanna spend a crap load of money and a metal pad) and i might buy the BNS Adapter so i dont have to buy a adapter from another site. Which Adapter will work better with Stepmania, the EMS USB2 or the BNS USA Adapter? and do these two adapters need drivers to map the buttons? i hear the EMS USB2 doesnt require you to install drivers, however im unsure if this is true _________________

two questions, how much is shipping for the EMS USB2 adapter from lik-sang if you live in the northwest US? and will the redoctane universal PS/PS2 adapter work with stepmania? if so what drivers are required? the redoctane adapter is here http://www.redoctane.com/universaladapter.html
i will be using the Official in the groove soft pad and i use windows 98 and i have USB 2.0 _________________

hey, the cbox for my afterburner pad doesn't work correctly for the PC, aka, Stepmania as we all know and I tried ordering the universal adapter as previously mentioned, has this worked for anybody, and I just happen to get a bad one, because it didn't work for me, it only made it worse... |

alright, from what people said about some adapters, which ones are good and which ones just plain suck? this info might help people finding a good adapter instead of reading a crap load of pages. so im basicly asking for someone to post which adapters are good or not. _________________

Hey, I just got a usb cable to connect my PS2 dance pad to my computer... but I'm having some trouble. The steps never seem to work accurately, at least not with the directional arrows. Sometimes they work, but other times the arrows just miss... I think it has to do with how the ps2 controller's d-pad is layed out... I tried switching the button configuration to the x, square, O, and triangle buttons, but the steps feel realy awkward... is there a way to just get the regular directional arrows? Or is maybe something wrong with my usb adapter? |

Ok this might be a dumb question.... whats the best way to do the up+start+select code when your on your pad? I can't ever seem to do it right because it's such an awkward position.
Edit: BTW, I have the Super Dual Box and a CF. No matter how many times I try the up+start+select doesn't seem to work. I don't know if i'm doing anything wrong or what. _________________

I'm having a big problem with my super dual box adapter. It's an older version, and the up+stat+select feature doesn't work. Is there anywhere where I can get drivers to fix this? _________________

I bought the Red Octane connector for $15 from it's website... and it works perfectly. All you have to do is go to gaming options and change it to dance mode. |
