Would it be worth it to pick this pad up on eBay for under $100 or just get a good soft pad? I'm pretty much a beginner and can barely handle 6's, so I guess I stomp on the hard side. Also, I can only pay using PayPal, so I can only get pads off of eBay (if anyone knows a site selling good pads accepting PayPal, please tell me). I also looked at MyMyBox Ignition pads. Which would be a better buy? |

I'm also looking to mod one (if I get it).. I found a topic on it and it looks simple enough. What do you all think? |

I'm not really sure I'm in the right thread, because that picture doesn't quite look like what I have, but there have been several comments in other threads indicating that Bluespark = tx1000.
Well, I got the one that says "Ultimate Pad v2.5" on the box two days ago because I ripped my softpad, and I knew I could return it easily (picked it up at Fry's). So far, it seems fine. I hear a crackle or two during some runs as of lexan rubbing against metal, but it hasn't seemed to cause even a scratch yet.
As to the sensor issue, I for one am glad you need to be more accurate with this. With my old softpad, I could basically toe the very corner of an arrow and still get credit for it - now, I have to actually get to the arrow. Much better practice for the arcade.
Also, no, as in 0, phantom hits/misses. On my softpad, maybe the foam would get too compressed or something, but the arrows would occasionally "stick", or press in sympathy with another arrow.
Now, I'm *not* sure I like the "sinking" feeling I get when I edge an arrow by mistake... that does make me wonder about the long-term strutural integrity, especially with a big guy like me. Also, it's now a *hard* surface, so my shins are complaining. I'm obviously going to ned to modify my style to come down softer on the arrows - with the softpad, the foam clearly cushioned a lot of the impact... not so here. Which means shoes, I guess.
Anyway, I'm going to keep it for a week. If I notice any problems, it'll go back then, otherwise it seems fine to me. _________________

I've now gotten four new catas on the thing, and when I did some Arcade play today the Pad/Shoe practice clearly is helping.
So far, it seems to be holding up fine - although I'm still adjusting to how to do things like the Paranoia jump run without feeling like my soles are being held by the pad (I think I'm coming into the jumps at too oblique an angle, so when the rubber meets the lexan, it arrests the movement, creating a loud squeak and a delay in getting to the next jump)
Still, I'd get that on any pad with lexan panels, which the Arcade happens to have as well.
It looks from here like the problems with the TX-1000 style pad were solved by 2.5, excepting the complaint about openings dust and dirt can get it. Those are still there, and I can see that possibly becoming an issue.
Also, the three panels that are not playable are covered in a blueish material that has already developed several small holes on all three panels. It's purely cosmetic, but in reviewing it I had to mention it.
I have four more weeks before I *have* to either return it or own it. I'll definitely be keeping it at least for another week. _________________

I'm surprised most of everybody despises this pad. I've been using this pad for seven months and it works just fine. I've gotten multiple AAs on it, and it barely emits a sound. I considered buying Cobalt Flux but it made so much noise and banging whenever one of the arrows were hit in a video demo that I refused to buy it. (plus the lowered buttons are a nightmare when playing songs with crossovers) Also the TX-1000 has very sensitive buttons and is very durable. Maybe I bought a non-bootlegged version of this pad, but it's, in my opinion, the best pad out there.
The only problem with it is the plexiglass covering the arrows do crack in about five months if you play it frequently, but that doesn't affect accuracy at all.
Plus if you hit the metal screws a lot they are liable to fly off.
But still, no pad is perfect. |

Overpriced. I got it for $175, which is equivalent to $135 + shipping if I'd ordered online, plus the easy-return option, so I don't feel ripped off about it. They were trying to get $199 for it, but I talked it down. _________________

i got the pad about 6 months ago and the two right arrows are cracked and now i get random goods and almosts all the time.. i think since i played a lot and my friends stomp, this may be the cause. But i would recommend a better pad if u tend of keeping it longer. _________________

The 1000 has 1-screw corner disks, and the Fry's pad has 4-screw panels. There might be other differences as well, but that is what jumped out at me when I looked at it. Thanks for the tip that they might be "negotiable" on the price! I'm still thinking about the Fusion or the new Afterburner (recessed buttons), but I need to wait until after I get back from my next road trip to decide. |

I only paid 60$ for it on ebay After a while it pretty much sucks, but u just need to solder, move the sensors in, get some foil tape, and get an extra control box or 2 and its just dandy _________________

That's EXACTLY what happened to mine. It's just the control box. Get a new control box from the seller if possible _________________
