i wonder if bns fixed the problem with their moving inserts on the dx pad? According to one of the posts on the first page of this thread that warns about the small inserts moving around due to a change in the manufacturing process. Well if they have fixed it then this might be a decent pad. |

Wow. Im seeing alot of bad stuff about the 2.0. Ill post some stuff about my ignition 2.0.
I got it december 24th, 2005. Ive used this pad for all my DDR/ITG playing- when I got this, I was a total newb with max 2 and alot of time on my hands. Ive had it now about ten months, and only NOW is it starting to show signs of going bad. The thin white vinyl stuff beneath the top part started to crease and break/tear within a month, but a little tape and that was no problem.
In these ten months, aside from usual play, its gone through some serious hell. I raped max 300 with the thing- at least 100 times. Ive done charlene, july and other such expert songs and its still a really good, functional pad. In fact, I believe the only reason mine is randomly firing early now is because when I use a chair as a bar my weight pushes the material on top forwards and scrunches it up a bit, probably setting off the sensor.
Being that Ive gotten into PA/FA, I stomp with quite noticible force. Nothing crazy, but you can hear it(This is possibly due to the wooden insert I had made for it to replace the foam one. When you step down on it with a flat foot it makes a good clap sound.). So, after about 9-10 months I redid all my ITG Hard scores with it. I have around a 95.66% average, if that says anything. This isnt to brag, but rather to note that the pads sensors still fire perfectly in terms of precision, spare that whole scrunchy thing.
Seriously. 10 months. Dozens of max 300s and 11 footers. Its great. Im pretty sure itll still be good even until christmas this year, making it a whole year Ive been using it.
The foam insert was fairly solid, but on semi deep fluffyish carpet the middle began to sink noticibly back when I didnt have my wooden insert. On any relatively flat carpet though it was quite solid.
So, 100 bucks for ten months of good durability, with only minor signs now of misfiring. Sounds good to me. =P
In fact, the only negative thing about it is that on songs with fast steps, such as July Expert or etc, your feet slide all over the pad. That is, if you play in socks. I cant imagine using shoes on a soft pad- thats just stupid. If you step straight down you shouldnt have any problem, but itll take some control if you find you step to the side to hit arrows.
I say this is the best thing next to a CF, particularly if youre low on cash.

Where? i looked, couldnt find anything. And this is the thin, holed-white foam you have to cut open the pad to access you are talking about, not the thick insert right? Cause i'm certainly not referring to the insert. |
i dont think i've heard of anyone selling the inner pad foam.. =/ i think you should just change to a new ignition.. how long have u had it for again? _________________

I just got an ignition pad (from the In the Groove House Party contest) and whenever I try to play, the song instantly ends without any buttons being pressed. Anyone know what I can do to fix this? Out of the songs it would let me do, it was amazing but I've only ogtten three songs out of it so far. |

I'm guessing either your start or select buttons are messed up, as it is being held down during game play.
Can you confirm this? Does it confirm songs for you if you do not move fast enough to choose songs, etc.? _________________

So is it the consensus of the community that the Ignition 2.0 is infinitely better than the Ignition 3.0? |

After scouring through this particular thread, because I didn't have the good sense to actuall CHECK if I was getting the 2.0 or 3.0 from a store roughly fifty miles from where I lived when I could I have gotten the 3.0 from a store that's less than three miles from where I live *wheeze*, I wanted to ensure that I would make my Ignition 2.0 last as long as possible.
About three years ago, I got one of those twenty dollar pads and used the plywood mod to make it last for so long. Still works, with the occasional flub on the left arrow, but other than that, it works. So, now I want to make my new pad last and from this thread, I've found two methods;
1. Open up the zipper and coat the upside-down surface of the sensor pad cover with duct tape to reduce the amount of friction betwen it and the overly rough Red-Octane foam pad.
2. The oft quoted Rychan method, wherein you replace the foam pad with a piece of particle-board that you can get from Home Depot and the like. (Or simply place it above the foam pad, I couldn't tell from the picture.)
The only problem is that I am a 6'3" tall man, weighing about 320 lbs, so you can imagine these pads were not designed for the heavier set. Though I have come across a few posts that noted that they were around my weight, I don't want to push my luck, because today was the second time I've used it for about an hour to an hour and a half on 'standard' and a few nonstop courses. (though I practiced the 'light' Orion.78 Civilization mix, so you can expect some near stroaks from someone that's been playing on and off for the past while. )
After reading the various problems, I checked my pad and discovered that there was indeed two tears near the front arrow and now the real reason for this post: Is it too late to save my pad from being trashed by using either or both of the above mentioned methods?
Longwinded, I know, but it's better than being vague. |

Does anyone know what the difference is between the BNS DX and NX pads, besides the type of the main foam insert? Are the small foam inserts under each arrow the same for DX and NX?
I've used DDR Nation and Cyphergames 2.0-style pads that had thin foam inserts under each arrow, and they were just right for me. I tried a Level Six v3.1 pad that had thick inserts, and they were too thick and stiff: it took too much force to activate the buttons.
Also, do the DX and NX pads have smooth and shiny tops? |

DX-Xtreme does. Or rather, it did. But lately I've been reading/hearing about people ordering that pad and instead receiving a "DDR GAME" pad, which is also foam insert but not the BNS quality model. So be careful with Buy N Shop. If you want to confirm you're getting the right pad, I would suggest calling the store's phone BEFORE ordering to clear up any questions about this you may have.
Good luck to ya My original DX-Xtreme has been working for nearly 2 years (although with some tape both inside and outside, it's overall very functional and puts up with ITG songs) |
