|
|
Alright, over the past 2-3 weeks of playing Ultramix 2 & now Extreme 2... well, I can get an AA rating on Extreme 2's 'Speed Over Beethoven' tune, very fun one I might add... but once I try going to standard or heavy mode, I get totally lost, can't move that fast or even determine where to go before the arrows are past already..
Does this come naturally over time or is there some sort of strategy? Any tips would be appreciate it... I just wanna get better at it. |

It's something that takes time. Working from Beginner, to Light, then Standard and finally Heavy does take a certain level of experience with many aspects of the game, such as eye-leg coordination and such. The one thing that irritates me about people who are new the the concept of DDR is when they figure there's some trick or strategy to it. Seriously peoples, you get good at it just like you get good at anything else: practice. |

i started on light, cuz DDRMAX didn't have beginner.
starting on lesson mode is better; if you start on beginner it can create bad habits like returning to the middle.

If you are having problems reading the arrows you should play stepmania on keyboard to improve your arrow reading abilities. Thats what I did, it helps. _________________

I wouldn't suggest doing this until you reach the point where the reason you can't pass the song is because you can't read the notes. For me, this was around the 6 foot level. Once I could read better, I could play up to 8. _________________

IMO - best strategy. Dont look at the light/heavy ratings, look at the foot difficulty. I guess most standard songs are around 5-6? so just playing the 5 footers for now, then goto 6, then 7, 8, 9 ect. _________________

If you feel as the arrows are clumping together, trying turning up the speed to 1.5x. I felt that even though it is faster and you need to react faster, I loose myself if the arrows are clumped together.
Actually, if the speed is 1x, I get lost. I been playing for over a year now and AA 8 footers and A catas (9 footers). _________________

Same here, but besides that problem, I think beginner in general is just totally unecessary. There are enough 2-foot light songs to start on, and if you can't pass those, well...uh...maybe DDR isn't the game for you. Seriously. Anyway, you're going to learn much faster if you start on light as opposed to beginner. |

Yeah, turning up the speed might definatly help... I've been playing for around 6 months (I think, lol) I can A 9 foot songs, and can pass a few 10's, and I simply cannot read at 1x. Usually I play on ITG with Hallway, so I use 3x or 4x up until around 250 bpm, since it's really hard for me to read 16th notes at 1.5x (Default speed on ITG). On DDR I use anywhere from 1.5x to 3x, depending on the speed of the song. Anyway, expirament with the different speed settings, they may help. |
