I've only just started playing DDR myself. Been watching people play on the metal pad/bars on the arcade machine at the cinema here, and I just like the music in the games, good beats for the most part.
So this week I got DDR Ultramix 2 & a Mad Catz pad that works with all current gen systems, and I've fully paid off Extreme 2 which should be in at EB Games tomorrow morning (I hope).
Very fun, though its not easy with just a basic pad, no bar to hang onto. I really suck at the game, its a challenge for me to get a 'B' rating, but its tons of fun and I think I'm already getting better after 7 hours of playing it with friends. |

I started playing on the 20th of January this year. That's a little longer than 9 months now. I only started heavy songs about a month ago though because I stayed at light and standard for ages. Right now I'm trying to get the 9 and 10 footers down.
I met some random girl off the net, and she was saying that she plays DDR. Having seen it once or twice walking past the arcade, I was curious. So we decided to play the next day and that's how my ddr life began.
Alot of factors made me keep playing. The enjoyability of dancing around on four arrows made things fun, but lately I've been doing it for the challenge and for an amazing exercise factor. _________________

I've been playing for about a year and a half or so. I used to think DDR was some crazy asian game before my brother bought it for our xbox. Then I got really into it, lost a good 35 or 40 pounds playing too. Plus I love the music and I'm a big Kosaka Riyu/Beforu fan so everything about DDR rules my school. |

* When did you first start playing DDR? (and how long have you been playing)
The very first time I played DDR was at a party about six months ago. They had it there, and I played a few songs. Didnt play it at all again until the Health Club I work at bought a set of pads for thier youth center about two weeks ago. They had me take it home to test it and make sure it was working properly. That night I played for about 5 hours, and the next day I ordered a set of pads and UM2.
* What got you to start playing? (initial interest)
My initial interest was how it seperates itself from other video games by getting the player up from the couch. It is a very active game.
* What made you keep playing? (why do you like playing currently)
I've only been playing for a couple of weeks, so my current motivation is to get better so I can start playing songs on harder difficulties. I enjoy the challenge. |

Well my friend was into it for a while, I didnt really know untill I started playing, (probably because he would have been to ashamed). But anyway, me and my friends would goto the local movie theatre (silver city) and see all the crazy asians AAA LOM Heavy double, dark, boost, X8. We didnt really say much, just kinda laugh at it, and be amazed when they did amazing. So one day were at the arcade, and its basicly just me and him. So I kinda looked at him and nodded my head towards the machine and started laughing. So we went, he went begginer and I went light and me, (being a drummer) had a good sense of beat and passed Love Shine. my friend passed too. Ever since then I was addicted - for about 8 months now.
Pretty much just the fun of it. and just being able to goto the theatre and just show off to the spectators, during the busy times for the movies when I go sometimes, the ticket machine is right behind the DDR machine so I get to a lot _________________

It was late december 2004
A friedn of mine decidewd he was gonna buy a dance pad and i should buy the game so we could start playing together at my house(on psx)
Anyways i got 1st mix and we would play once in a while (only on begginer) and i got bored and tired of it.One day i saw Extra mix and bought it,there was no begginer mode some i was kind of thrown off guard by the basic steps and failed most of time ,but i kept trying (mostly because the songs on that mix are just very good) until i got better.
My friednd stoped playing cause it was too hard for him.
And now almost 10 months later iplay on heavy/challenge while he is still triying to finish a standard hehe _________________

Started playing in April 2005.
What got me to start playing was: I went to the mall with a friend in mid March, and we walked in the arcade. I saw some guys playing on Heavy mode, and right then and there I was hooked. I was like 'OMG. I MUST get this game!' And a couple weeks later, I did. Extreme bundle. Wasn't until 3 months later, I got a metal pad AND Japanese PS2 so I could enjoy the Japanese games!
What keeps me playing? I think we all know how addictive this game is... It's also sooo much fun to play in the arcade and make new friends. There's so much to do in this game, I don't think I'll ever stop. |

- When did you first start playing DDR? (and how long have you been playing)!
I first started Fall of 2003, and I've been playing on and off since then. A bad knee keeps me off the pads occasionally.
- What got you to start playing? (initial interest)
I wanted to start a fitness routine, but I always lose interest in the traditional workout classes and equipment. My teenagers worked on me to try their DDR pads and games for a year before I actually did it. But once I did the Lessons for a month, (without anyone around to watch me), I was hooked. (g)
- What made you keep playing? (why do you like playing currently)
I need to excercise, and being able to see improvement each time I jump on the arrows just makes me want to try again. I will never reach 'Heavy' stepping, but the small successes keep me going. Besides it's fun, especially for an elderly lady like me. (49yr.old)(g)
Oh, BTW I caught on to why my kids wanted me to get hooked on DDR. Since I have a bit of 'disposable income' for toys and what not, I insisted on buying the best equipment... yep, two Cobalt Fluxes and a couple of RedOctanes in case I wanted to go barefoot. Of course my kids were free to use them too, and actually talked me into letting them take them to a couple of LAN parties, and school activity afternoons.
I'm on to them now.(g) Took a little while, but I'm old and the synapses aren't firing quite as fast as they used too.(g) |

i started playing DDR seriously in July 2004, when i played DDR for 6 hours straight at Gameworks in Las Vegas (EXTREME and USA).
i got ddr EX US for Christmas that same year, starting from pretty much rock bottom (BEG, but mostly LGT).
today, i can pass every song in ddr on HVY/ONI (whichever's harder) and i'm trying to pass Pandemonium on Expert in ITG.
to make a long story short, it'll be long road until i'll be able to AAA (DDR) and **** (ITG) every song on the hardest difficulty. _________________

LOL. I remember my first time. I was at Eskape, a entertainment center where they got bowling and an arcade. I saw the DDR machine an it looked kinda fun. I started on beginner and found myself getting D's and C's, but i was still happy i passed the song . I remember i was wearing sandals . I came back the next week and i got b's and c's in beginner. After that i did'nt play for like 2 weeks . So then i got my very first paycheck of $80 ( a 16 yr old at 6.50 an hour ) and went to best buy. There i bought the DDR Extreme bundle for PS2. In a matter of 2 days i mastered begginner. in a week and a half i mastered light mode. I am now currently playing through standard mode .LOL, i know i'm nothing close to many people's skills on this site, but it feels good to get better. I love DDR because of the "workout".I'd rather play DDR for 2 hours instead of running for 30 min .
Well anyways I'm still striving to become a heavy regular. LOL, now i actually attract a crowd only in light mode . I hope this game stays alive for years to come .[/b] _________________

I've always seen ppl doing ddr and wondered about it, but never really tried. After Hurricane Francis (which occured in florida), my friend got the game and i loved right away. I havent stopped since. its been about...a year now. Extreme 2 just came out so that should keep me going, along with online play... _________________

I first started playing last November, with my friend's PS2 home version of Max2. I like to think that I was really good for a beginner, able to do 3 and 4 footers in about a week or so, mostly because a) I'm a music major, b) I play percussion, and c) I'm really good at sightreading.
Now I can ace all 7-footers, most 8-footers, and can pass a couple 9s. |
