All Stepmania questions go here? All right...

On my game, the last stage will normally A) automatically fail you, B) not show your life bar deplete/ increase while you're playing, or C) both. And I think there's times it'll just stop increasing yor life bar, but when that happened the bar wasn't visibly decreasing and I only saw the danger sign and my character turned reddish.

I've got dancing characters and have it set to four stages instead of three. Anyone know what'll fix it? I really don't wanna take off the little characters... they're too cute. But if that's the problem, at least I'll know. It's just pretty annoying...

Wtf, your metrics must be broken.

Or it might be the theme.

If you're using anything other than the Default theme, tell me.

I was using one, cause all this DID seem to start right around the time I changed the theme. I changed it back to default, and it's still doing that, though. I wouldn't think the other theme would mess with my game like... permanently, but...

So um... how do you fix it? Sounds like this problem doesn't come up much...

Edit: And I have a different problem, now. One easier to live through, though.

I got the Extreme pack of simfiles from Bemanifever, had to adjust all of them to fit, but none of the banners are showing up. Except mysteryously (gyah, that can't be spelled right) 1998 works just fine. And a few other somgs work, too, but far as the ones I pulled off my soundtrack go, yeah, 1998's the only one who'd banner shows up. I tested bag's .dwi by entering the #CDBANNER code, but that one still doesn't work. Reloaded the courses several times, too. Most of the songs have a blueish purple music note picture with a white background.

Looks like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/Papersak/note.jpg except tilted. Some Windows-made picture.

That is undoubtedly the wierdest problem I have ever heard. My first suggestion would just be trying to reinstall SM, as there is a possibility a file got corrupted somewhere along the way; all of your songs and themes will remain intact.

If you would prefer to try other stuff first, try turning of dancing characters (just as a test, doesn't have to be permanent), and setting the number of songs back to 3.

Ultimately it sounds like something is really broken, so I would try reinstalling.

I'm having a serious problem and I need help. After playing a few songs I turned Stepmania off and went into my songs folder. There was a recent pack that I had just downloaded and installed and it turned out that it wasnt very good so I deleted the pack out of my songs folder. No big deal, I do this all the time. When I go to load stepmania back up, I keep getting error messages telling me that I can't load the game. It would stop when I got to the part where it saved the cache. I tried completely uninstalling the game (I made a backup of my songs and stuff and deleted everything.) I reinstalled it and I haven't even put the songs and stuff back on it. Now when I try to run the game it won't even load. I get an error message saying "This application has failed to start because MSVCP71.dll was not found. Re-installing this application may fix the problem." I tried that and it didn't work. Anyone have any ideas?

your C runtime library (for some reason) is probably not there, you can fix it by downloading MSVCP71.dll at http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcp71, then unzip the file into "C:\Windows\SYSTEM32" (or equivalent, if you changed your system paths).

that should be it, if not, then i'm honestly not sure

Yeah after thinking about it for awhile I thought about doing that. Found the file on the net and installed it, and once again Stepmania works fine. It kinda makes me wonder if one of the simfiles I downloaded had some kind of virus in it.... Thanks for looking for that file though. ^ ^

no problem

and now for my question, is there any way to set specific USB ports for a specific ddr player.
ex. LEFT usb port is for the 1st player mem card, and the right is for second.

anyway to do that under windows?

Well, the die-at-the-last-stage thing's gone away-ish, after doing three stages instead of four.

But I have yet to solve this:

Sometime ago, I wrote:

And what's frusterating is I've loaded all those songs on another computer and they still have that problem.

I'm having a very frustrating problem.

I have a dwi/sm file of a song i created, and i created the steps from a blank stepchart. in stepmania when blank steps are created the rating changes to one. i create the steps and everything and its in sync and all that, but outside of stepmania when i change the foot rating of a certain difficulty in the dwi/sm file with notepad, i go back into stepmania and nothing changed!!! does anyone know what the problem is? help will be much appreciated!!

yeah, a lot of people don't realize it, but Stepmania reads the sm file first, so if you edited the dwi file, nothing will happen so long as the sm file is still there

I'm having a strange problem that isn't mentioned in the FAQ. It may have been mentioned somewhere in this thread, but I'm sorry, I'm not going to go hunting through 30 pages of text with no show-all-posts-at-once option...anyway...I just recently downloaded DM, and thus need to get some songs for it. I downloaded one of the packs available at stepmania.com and attempted to unzipl it, but when the "Tools and Package Exporter" came up, it didn't have any installations registered and thus couldn't install the pac anywhere. I tried to add a new one at C:\Program Files\StepMania like it says, which is in fact where the file is, but while I get no error message after adding that path and it shows up on the list in the edit installations window, when I close said window it still isn't on the pulldown menu on the unpack file window and when I reopen the edit installations window it's gone again. This has happened several times now. Tinkering seems like a bad idea and it's made harder by the fact that it's a different user who has admin privileges on my computer and I have to keep switching back and forth if I want to move anything in any important folders like Program Files. How can I make the exporter recognize my files?

ok. I wanted to change the CD Title in my song, so I opened the SM file and it said windows cannot open this file, it must know where it came from. or sumthin like that. So i chose to select it from a list. I chose wordpad so now all my SM files are in Wordpad format. How do I change it back to the original format?

How do I change the number of songs to play? In the tutorial it says there's something in options->machine but I can't find it on my version (3.9 rc4a).

Do I have to write one of these course things or is there a simple option I can set?

I believe the number of rounds you play is under coin options on the menu, if I'm not mistaken.

that is correct sir

but i do recommend you to just use event mode, unless you really want to simulate the arcade feel
