I'll wait to add those to the FAQs until I can find someone (EBT likely) that can verify that they work. _________________

On the jap ddr extreme does the + timing go on 0 or 2? I knoe that the perfect timing window is not the same as the arcade but is it true that the marvelous timing window is the same as the arcade? _________________

I'm glad that www.ncsx.com was listed as a reliable site! I'm buying an import console off them and didn't want to be ripped off! |

If I'm wrong for posting here, please correct me.
My modchip has been identified as in the Messiah series. I cannot play any Japanese Blue Discs. Are there any ways around this without changing the chip or the PS2?
Application: DDR Party Collection will not play on my PS2 what can I do to remedy this problem without paying so much $$? _________________

I played ddr festival for the first time last night, and noticed immediately that there is no solo option under other! I checked the FAQ and found no information. Am I SOL? |

modchips are gay, and a waste of time. Now you probably can't play your original games. If you're using your time on them, might as well buy a jap ps2. www.play-asia.com
use a magic slide disk, they work well, but you have to install it everytime.
the sliding part is fun. www.gameasylum.com
You can play imports, and back ups, but i dont think you can play dvd-9s.

Yeah man, my modchip is TOTALLY GAY considering I've got like a million Japanese PS1/2 DDR games (that may or may not be original discs) that play on my US PS2.
I bought a pre-modded Matrix Infinity PS2 from http://www.xmodds.com and I've had it for quite a while and it works great. Modchips are a load better than any slide card crap, but I would just suggest against installing a chip yourself unless you regularly do soldering and can solder tiny connections. You can even mail off your PS2 and have the chip installed by someone that does it all the time and guarantees their work (will fix any problems for free).
If you have a bad modchip it may be cheaper to mail off the PS2 to someone that can replace it with something cheaper. _________________

Clearly Da-RiSiN-sMoKe doesn't know what he's talking about and definitely does not have a modchip. I've been running w/a Matrix Infinity in my PS2, and I haven't had a single problem with it. It runs every single original game I have, doesn't mess with online play at all, autodetects every kind of media I put in so you don't even need to know how to do anything with it, and lets me use HDLoader so I never actually have to put any discs in my PS2. I just turn the thing on, and there's my menu of games on my HD, and I play them. Also load time is cut down to about 25-50% of normal cuz of the HD.
Basically, it's the best thing ever. I lost absolutely no functionality and gained tons of great features.
Amongst other things, I have MAX, MAX2, Extreme, Party collection & festival all Jap versions that play perfectly.
I don't even play the US versions of the game anymore because I like the song selection in the JP ones so much more. |

I just bought $170 worth of old DDR games from eBay (1st-3rd, and both Appends) and now I'm wondering what to do with them. I think we have a modded PSX in the apartment somewhere, but if not, I'll be buying a JPS2 soon, so that'll take care of that.
Since these are old mixes (with manuals and spinecards, bitches) I believe that they possess the curious ability to form together, much like Voltron, and become something that is greater than the sum of its parts. My current understanding is this:
-1st is too old; we'll just leave it here for now.
-2nd has two Append discs full of mostly crap from old Beatmania games, which 2nd Appends into to add the songlists from those games to it. Important question here; can it do both at once?
-3rd can Append with 2nd, or something, so that you have 2nd's songs playing on 3rd's interface. The million dollar question is, can it take Appends with it? Can we have four whole CDs join together in unholy matrimony? 'Cause that would be badass. That'd be, like, twelve different versions of PARANOiA Max (Dirty Mix) right there.
Clarification on this issue would be great. Thanks.
I also bought True Kiss Destination and Oha Sta, but I don't want to talk about those just yet. XD
edit: I'm looking over FAQs and stuff, and looking at 3rd Mix's unlock list... all I can think of is Papa Titus screaming "GEEZ! All this old crap I've already played; it's like unlocking Extreme US all over again!"

Well, for 1stMIX through 3rdMIX...
[2ndReMIX]
...to 1stMIX: Play 1stMIX songs in the 2ndMIX interface. That's about it.
...to APPEND CLUB VERSiON vol.1: Unloads 2ndReMIX and boots CLUB VERSiON vol.1
...to APPEND CLUB VERSiON vol.2: Unloads 2ndReMIX and boots CLUB VERSiON vol.2
[3rdMIX]
...to 1stMIX: Play 1stMIX songs in the 3rdMIX interface. Includes special Nonstop courses.
...to APPEND CLUB VERSiON vol.1: Unloads 3rdMIX and boots CLUB VERSiON vol.1
...to APPEND CLUB VERSiON vol.2: Unloads 3rdMIX and boots CLUB VERSiON vol.2
...to 2ndReMIX: Play 2ndReMIX songs in the 3rdMIX interface. Includes special nonstop courses.
Unfortunately, that's about it with the exception of the Support function. With 2ndReMIX you can unlock 1stMIX, and with 3rdMIX you can unlock 1stMIX, 2ndReMIX, CLUB VERSiON vol.1, and CLUB VERSiON vol.2. Unfortunately, I've yet to find a support function for 3rdMIX or 5thMIX. |

Uiru - I have to say that if you already have a US PS2, you should really just consider sending it in somewhere and having it modded. It costs $100, and then you only have 1 console in which to play all your games on.
I got my console modded from socalmods.com with the matrix infinity chip, and I can play all JP versions, all US versions, HDLoader, Original discs, backups, absolutely everything. I can also disable the chip to play online. I tested this with DDR Extreme 2, worked perfectly. It still passes DNAS and runs online no problems.
So, rather than have a second console or a jp-only console, I highly recommend you go the cheaper route (which will probably turn out to be easier as well) and just have your console modded for your imports. |

Do you really think you need a different memory card? I have all my JP and US games on the same memory card. My ps2 is modded, but I don't think it makes a difference.
Also, are you sure the ps2 uses dvd region codes? What about cds? There's no region byte on cd-roms, yet a stock us ps2 won't play jp cd-roms.
Maybe the region code is actually in the game code. If that's the case, JP games should be patchable to work on US PS2s. |

1.) Memory cards are not region coded. You can have saves from any region on any card.
2.) The PS2 doesn't use DVD region codes, it uses its own. Same reason why PSone games were region coded.
3.) You can play games from any region on your PS2. Just use HDLoader (Just make sure your TV or capture card supports the video standard the game uses). |
