I juss finished building a riptide style pad. What is the max weight limit for the pad? Is the max weight limit based on the thickness of the plexiglass, because i juss used one 3/8" plexiglass for each arrow panel instead of two .22" plexiglass?

Welp, with my riptide, I've sat on single panels (putting 250 pounds on 'em), and the pad still works great. I'd say that it can at least take up to 250 pounds - probably significantly more, though I'm not interested in breaking the pad to determine the maximum weight limit.

right now i dont have arrow graphics on my riptide pad because im only using one plexiglass n the foam tape wont come off the plexiglass without messing it the plexiglass(like the foam tape would rip in half if i took it off n then i would have to scrape it off) what should i do?

see that's the problem with using one piece of plexiglass, its very hard to get an arrow graphic in there. My suggestion is to buy another thin sheet of plexiglass and put it on top of your thick plexiglass, and then sandwich your graphic in there.

yeah but you'd have to use Riptide's homepad design since it's the only one that gives enough room inside the pad to install lighting. Chances are you'll have to use an external power cable as well.

Hey group,
I posted a thing on this awhile back. By adding some middle support to keep the plexiglass from snapping, the pad's strength increases tremendously. Mine has been played on by 400 pounds (including jumping). To do this, just follow these steps.

1. Measure the height from the bottom of the arrow bay to the top of the contacts. This should be done in the very center of the arrow bay. (See picture)
2. Cut a support piece (1 inch square is fine) a few millimeters shorter than what you measured (about 3-4 will do). You want it lower than the contacts so it doesn't interfere with gameplay. Also, it doesn't hurt to have some room in case you have to lower the contacts.
3. Glue (or glue and screw) the piece down. Glue works very well here. Make sure to use a good quality wood glue and lots of pressure.
4. The picture shows some foam on the support. I later removed this because it interfered. I think it's fine without anything on it. The main idea is that it keeps the plexiglass from bending too much.

Anyway, here's a picture to demonstrate what I'm talking about:

If anyone has questions about this, let me know. As I said, I've had 400 pounds jumping on this pad and no problems. I also play Heavy very regularly (I'm 150) and no signs of stress yet. Good luck.!

David

Sorry mate, but you've been wasting your time. Blue beefman never designed his own pad...just kinda added some modifications to Riptide's. If you want a "blue beefman" style pad, just build Riptides and use corner brackets for the contacts instead of washers/mending brackets. That's basically all he did.

Has anyone made a bar for the ddrhomepad/stoli design? Or, even better, has anyone made a stand-alone bar? I've been getting to the level where I can A/AA everything except the Max songs, and I realized that having a bar for those would really help. Another thing, does anyone have links to dimensions for the arcade bar? thanks!

I was actually thinking about getting a bar made as well. The dimensions would be great.

Hey I'm a complete noob on making pads. Im just poking my head into this thread (for the first time of course) I was just wondering if anyone had the blueprints for a Beat-Gears pad? Basically all I know as of yet is that if I am making a pad, I want it to be exactly like the Beat-Gear pad. Has this been discussed? Heres where I got the idea.

http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=8254184#8254184

I love the mod this guy did to the pad also... (Bar + Back add on...Doubles looks awesome too!)

Any info is helpful and appreciated. Thanks (from a pad making noob)

Oh man the beat-gears...those bring back memories.

I highly doubt you can manufacture something like that but mymybox.com sells arcade foot sensors...apparently they will be used in their next pads.
